Wow! that Bernie fellow can hit all the high notes. Really a perfect singer for Heep. I do miss Hensley's vocals though. Not only the main song writer back in the heyday, he was also the other voice of Heep. Is he still able to sing, does anyone know?
@wardka If you watch carefully, you can see Ken still adding a few background vocals here and there in this vid. Go check his website: He's still "out there" doing shows and making albums. ken-hensleydotcom.
@wardka There's a case to be made that Hensley's songwriting (and insistence on being involved in ALL the songwriting) dragged them away from the successful formula that launched them into stardom (heavy progressive rock with fantasy themed lyrics) to the one that nearly rendered them completely irrelevant in the mid-to-late 70's (heavy focus on pop sensibilities). Personally, I prefer the Heep from 1970-72 over anything from Wonderworld on through until Hensley (thankfully) quit in 1980.
Incredible.40 years later that they sound even better. Mick Box was our guitar hero god at 12 East Walnut Street, Harrisburg, IL, USA, 1976. Hurd Brothers Band. Magician's Birthday Indeed!
David Gilmore is best guitarist of all time. However Mick Box, Jimmy Page, Brain May, Mark Knofler, Al di Meola, Jimi Hendrix and J.J Cale are all equal second in my opinion.
im only 28, but i have to say, Heep is one of the best groups ive ever known. Even Purple and Floyd. But this Solopart rocks man!!!! like it! 128 db and open the windows!!!!!

Many bands have lost the fire in their bellies needed to properly play music they wrote thirty years ago. Not so with Uriah Heep. This is a great rendition of Magician's Birthday. They made time stand still with this one! : )
I listen to this album and this song every february 5 'cause is The Magician's Birthday. My Birthday! Maguita means Magician. That song is so special to me and Uriah Heep is one of my favorite bands. Bernie Shaw is GOD. I love him!
Very first concert I have ever seen 4$ first band was zz top then earth wind and firse then the heep in springfield mass what a wacky combo I am turning 52 tommorrow jan 3 heep live on
This moment is awesome and unforgetable. Bernie plays the "Magician" and Lawton appears to play the "Demon". Uriah Heep really really rocks! Hail, from Brazil.

The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
@mpgarib these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.
No no no. It's Mr. John Lawton who sings on Heep's Firefly, Innocent Victim, Fallen Angel and Live in Europe 1979 albums. Ken Hensley is the guy who's playing Telecaster guitar on the right side of the stage and then moves to play Hammond organ.
