In fact, given the archaic rules for representation in the Canadian senate, it essentially gives a ruling party the power to appoint seats to party cronies who will toe the party line even after they are voted out. If you are looking for a more representative body, I'd point you more towards the Australian senate which has a more proportional structure with stricter guidelines.

Pete, Harper's not doing any better for us. Look up the Security Perimeter Plan- which allows US military open access to Canada and brings their over the top style of security to our airports, etc. This thing has been negotiated in almost total secrecy and could be signed this month.
Bill C-36? Allows police to freely search our homes with no probable cause. Bill S-10? Sentences us to mandatory 18 months imprisonment for having a freaking hash brownie with a friend!

@pealcake The Canadian senate is not necessarily something to emulate if you are looking for greater representation. In fact, given the archaic rules for representation in the Canadian senate, it essentially gives a ruling party the power to appoint seats to party cronies who will toe the party line even after they are voted out. If you are looking for a more representative body, I'd point you more towards the Australian senate which has a more proportional structure with stricter guidelines.
