  • My '78 K20 is still going strong and I've driven it hard almost daily for the past 17 years that I've owned it. The previous owner pulled trailers with it. It is great for wheelin', and I often do. I paid $1,500 for it and have put a total of $2000 in work into it. I've never got that kind of return on an investment from anything else in my whole life.

  • hahah pointless blazer plow truck. and of course; chevy like a rock. cause after filming this commercial they all broke down and never moved again, like rocks.

  • chevy went to tough country trucks to stupied city elctric cars i miss the good old days

  • GM fucked up cars, but they have never fucked up full size trucks.

  • The 73-80 models are the best ones. They should make anniversery editions. If mustangs, camaros and challengers can come back in a new form, why cant trucks?

  • @MrJackAttack2010 we have a 74 ford f-250 its awsome it can pull a trailer home

  • these are 1980 models. the only year before 1981 that was an option for square or round headlights

  • i have a 79 stepside, 87 shortbed, and 86/87 suburbans, and none of them have a hole rusted through them anywhere (all are east tx trucks)

  • @Texassince1836 Dont bring them here to PA. I had a 79 chevy scottsdale that my dad bought off the showroom floor brand new. It needed a paint job at 50,000 and new body panels around 100,000. We kept it for almost 30 years. I really like the 73-87 models and wish i still had that truck, but around here with this weather, you would have more bondo than paint on those trucks(lol).

  • @MrJackAttack2010. That's somethin I love about texas, run a million miles and your frame stillhas all the origional paint and the only rust is from where the sun oxidized the paint on the roof. My 79 stepside gmc has 500.000 miles on it and not a single rust hole, and no cancer.

  • @MrJackAttack2010 i know what u mean. i'm from pa as well. i miss my old 79 bronco but i had to sell cause wasn't a whole lot of ford sheet metal left on it. sold to some kid who feild hopped it for awhile and then scrapped it. 351 cleveland with a 4 speed 4x4. miss it, but not the mpg's though. my old s10 blazer made to 200,000 miles before i sold. suprising it had very little rust, but it was beat.

  • @CamaroAmx i also live in p.a [schuykill county] ..there really isnt much of the older s10's around..way back in 1980 my brother bought a 75 chevy van for work,,in those 5 years it was rotted out and repaired..after 1.1/2 after he owned it..all the rust came back on it....for some reason chevys in the mid 70's rusted real bad...i have a 77 f 150 ,,its rusty but still going strong ..i forgot i owned a 79 bronco for a while, that was rusty , but ran real good

  • these are 80 model trucks. there were a small handfull of 79's with squares(and there were some 80'ss with round), but since all of the trucks in the commercial had square, they are 80 model trucks

  • On the square headlight debate.........According to original sales brochures and other sources, 1980 was the first year for rectangular headlights-in Silverado models only......1981 saw them integrated into all models with the front clip restyle that year. That's why you'll see 1980 models with both square headlights, and the carryover round units as well.

  • fords rule.

  • @FordmanHaulit3002010 nobody cares

  • umm this isn't from 1979 its from 1980 they didn't have that style of grill in 79 it was revised from round headlight and small turn signals too. square headlights and turn signals.

  • @wellsequipmentrepair I was going to comment the same thing, but since this commercial was during a football game, I assume It was recorded in fall/winter 79 for the 1980 model year...

  • @ajp9478 That was my assesment as well.

  • yall be lyin bout dat rust i been around plenty of chevy trucks growin up n they didnt have no rust 70s n 80s u can find plenty of them without rust any vehicle will rust if not taken care of

  • ever heard of road salt? its the truth everyone I've seen and owned not matter how well you took care of it they still rusted out big time!!!!! They were great trucks the reason why you still them on the road because people kept replacing fenders, beds, cab corners, cab mounts, rockers, on them. You won't find one with original body panels on them unless it's one that was stored or from the south even those rusted too!!!!

  • @1978mtb man im tellin u ive been round dem trucks man u cant speak 4 evryone of dem a grandfather of mine dat passed away in 06 had one all original except for da rims da truck was a lil beat up it had no rust anywhere i had a 72 gmc in my fam growin up not one bit of rust ive seen so many wit no rust so u cnt say all of dem get rusted ive seen sum dat were beat up taken care of no rust n not one panel or anything replaced ive even seen sum sittin for years without rust

  • @MrMm713 where I grew up it didn't matter the harsh winters road salt got to them quickly but you still see them on the road the same as the old ford and dodge trucks. What you don't see are the old toyota and datsun pickups from that time. They were a lot worse with rust then the big 3.

  • there it is. the gayest comercial ive ever seen.

  • Texas is a place where you can preserve cars. Nothing i drive ever sees salt. And the rare snowy winters when it does i wash it off as soon as i can. Lol, if you leave a window down in a storm, the next day the sun will bake your seats dry.

  • I have a 71 and a 72 chevy truck with good shett metal.

But when i see this commercial, all i think is poor sheet metal.

horrible metal on these late 70s early 80s chevy's

  • What's with all this rust nonsense? You people dont take care of your truck. Mah Daddeh bought a 78 bonanza special and it's only got two or three rust holes under the door lol.

It's only ever been three colors. It came Money green, was Chevrolet orange for a few years, and then glossy black. :D

  • @peepeevagi We live in indiana- and back them all chevy pickups- unless rustproofed- were rusted out in less than 3-4 years! I was an adult then- I remember it Where to do you live- arizona??

  • RUST!!!! RUST!!!! I love chevy but in the late 70's here in the rust belt- - they were the king= = rusting out in 2-3 years! lol

  • FOOTBALL!

  • they shoulda mentioned the 5.7 diesel joke...the engine that almost ruined the diesel pickup

  • They put those oversized paperweights in cars too... Caddys, Buicks, and Chevy cars/trucks.

  • All of those trucks in that commercial were '80 model year trucks. Last year of the round headlights was '79. The square headlights like on these were for '80 only. After that, more changes were made.

  • yeh proabbly ment it played in 1979 so they would be doing commercials for the new trucks witch would be the 80 models

  • @yarun0 I think some vans had square headlights as early as 1978. I once saw a 1979 Chevy ambulance on eBay with square headlights.

  • Ford got their modernized square headlights before Chevy, me and a friend thought this was just horrible,,lol

  • loved the 84 chevy had it for 13 years over 220k miles only rebuilt the tranny it had a built chevy 350 never let me down

  • And when they were two years old they were rusted to pieces. I had two late 70's pickups from Chevy- loved them- but my god what a rust bucket!!

  • Lovely, but rusty! Old French cars and American trucks really rusts away...

  • @Lindawatcher thats what happens to any vehicle if you dont clean the mud out from under it or clean the sand out from under it when u get back from the beach

  • @DRNEGOLICIS No beaches around here.. I am from Indiana! lol SALT! from winters road use is what does it here. I did wash it out like you said too- - but it STILL rusted out to = = in 2-3 years!!! POOR QUALITY METAL!! All other cars i had back then would last a minimum of at least 10 years without rusting out with me washing the salt off of the underside.. but not these rust-prone trucks. Loved the look- still do- very good looking- and reliable.. but no thanks

  • @Lindawatcher I'm the proudly owner of a '79 K5 Blazer, no rust at all, in nothing area of the truck, never restored, perfectly preserved from 70's to today

  • @Chevy400V8 Wow! congrats! How did it stay that way? Ziebarted? Garage kept? oil coated? Where do you live? I believe you- just want to know how you did it. I waashed the salt out from under and inside the fenders- every time the roads were salted. Mine still rusted out in less then 3 years= = front fenders were a mess... Doors were rotted all the way through- all along the bottom of both.... The bed was starting to rust out in some spots just over the wheels. Rusted out tailgate

  • @Lindawatcher My Blazer was purchased new in Canada, then in 1986 it went to Texas, now from 1996 it's in Italy. I bought it in 2008 and my friend bodyworker told me that no restoration was ever made. I have the truck recovered on my garage, but in these last 2 winters we've got a lot of snow (i live in a mountain area in the north of Tuscany) and at the moment i have no trace of rust. Obviously i always wash the road salt from under after drive in snow and mud after going off-road

  • @Chevy400V8 Amazing! Well, I have often wondered too about the differance in quality and spec for coatings of the metal as it was manufactured? For instance a freind of mine purchased a similar model/ same-year as mine He lived on a farm and used his harshly!= = hauled fertilizer sometimes- traveled on sloppy mud roads while mine NEVER got off road. His set outside = mine was under a carport. He never ever washed his - ever! His lasted over 4 years before rusting- mine went only 2-3??

  • @Lindawatcher i have a 79 and only the rear wheel wells are rusted and thats only because of running chains in the winter the one end is too long and wrecked the wheel well its all in where you live and how you treat em

  • @Lindawatcher um we still have a 78 Chevy truck and a 78 g20 and they have some rust but nothing bad and both run fine so you must not know how to take care of a truck

  • @Lindawatcher where did u keep them ??? in a fucking salt jar probably

  • @lgrumour1 It did set outside while at work- other than that it was under a car-port.. not used to haul much of anything..... never ever driven off road- or on gravel roads. It was driven in the winter salt like any other vehicle in Indiana, but our other cars went almost 10 years before rusting out... Don't get me wrong, I love Chevy's but the rust was terrible back then. Our was mirror broken and it peppered the paint on the door - over night the dew rusted the metal badly- unreal!

  • @Lindawatcher but they kept going didnt they.

  • @HBMAN665420 THEY sure did! lol They just got lighter every year as the metal rusted away lol

  • @Lindawatcher My Dad Had a 77 For YEARS. Eventually It Rusted. But ran forever. I Think It might still be running today. It was Army green.350 V8

  • i think that guy with the blazer with the plow on it just wanted to run into shit lol

  • wow..damn...that fucker is old

  • Was "Chevy" misspelled on purpose?

  • @mrceleb2006 i know you posted this a rlly long time ago but when was Chevy misspelled?

  • Nice little retro gem there.
