When I was 5 and saw this I clung to my dad because that very first tone of music scared me me and thought the diamond was going to come out of the tv and eat me. Lol. Well now I find it a epic piece of awesome history.
@TheDemoniusX I used to be afraid of this logo too, and I think it was because of the music and the sudden appearance of Mickey. I would ask my parents to fast-forward past it, then press "Play" when the film starts.
I used to like this intro as a kid. But that music in the beginning sounds a little creepy up until the letters start writting. I love how Tinker Bell flies over the letters a shines them up.
I live in American, maybe that explains why we don't have the full logo. Care to upload it for us? If so, I suggest telling them it's an real Candian print, so Americans shouldn't complain if they see the 1988 intro in the Candian version of "Robin Hood".
I agree, it does look cooler this way. I remember when I got my Robin Hood video and the logo was starting up, but when the blue background began fading up early with and the metallic diamond began slowly zooming up, I was like WTF? I thought this was a neat surprise, since I was expcecting the cut-short version of the regular logo.
Along with the red-on-white FBI logo and the white-on-red "Licensed for private home exhibition only" disclaimer, the 1988 CLV LD version of Cinderella has a metal diamond same as the VHS does.
I got this on countless Disney tapes, except for Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp and I didn't know it appeared on later prints. They must be rare.
I heard the European release of "Lady and the Tramp" had this opening. But I know the European Classics releases did not use the diamond print logo. Instead they just had a generic "Walt Disney Classics" heading above the title, and then in 1998 they switched to a print\ logo that had "CLASSICS" on a scroll.
this may actually be from 89 when this came out because a lot of people are saying this logo is from 89 and i agree with them, but only used till 94ish
What makes you think that this variant of the 1988 WDC logo is beautiful? I think the diamond looks ugly, because there's not a lot of black inside it!!
As a matter a fact, I know 4 VHS Oliver & Company trailer's on: Cinderella Classics, Ducktales: Accidental Adventures & New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: vols.1 & 2: Great Honey Pot Robery & Wishing Bear! All released in 1988!
OK, then it's on 3 VHS I know: Cinderella Classics (w/green preview logo), Ducktales: Accidental Adventures & New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: vol.2: The Wishing Bear! All released 1988!
Actually, I heard that the "Robin Hood" videos with this logo was actually from late 1991 to early 1992, since the green FBI warnings DID debut in 1991.
BTW, it would've been easier to tell the "Robin Hood" videos apart if the ones with the prototype Classics logo had a WHITE label instead of the ink one, like "Cinderella" does.
That is right. Although I heard The Rescuers Down Under has a variant from 1992 with the Green FBI screens and the 1992 FP logo. I need to get a hold of that print to see it.
Now this is great! But you're description should say, "The first (prototype) variant of the 1988 Walt Disney Classics logo, which has a blue/black gradient background and a metallic diamond. This was taken from (& 1st seen on) Cinderella, though it also appears on later prints of the 1991 Robin Hood video (aibeit offscreen), as well as a 1988 print of Sleeping Beauty & 1989 print of Ladu & the Tramp".
@WARRENCOOK1995 For the last time, none of the Mini Classics tapes ever used this logo!

systemoperator 4 years ago
i recall that too. it's been the mid-90's since I've seen it. So if I recall correctly, the previews for "Cinderella" would be in this order:
1. Red FBI screens
2. Oliver and Company preview
3. 1988 WDC logo
4. 1985 WDP logo
5. the film
Aubster06 4 years ago
Yep & don't forget, green preview logo was at start of trailer.
