I MYSELF BELIEF THAT THE VERSION OF MARTIN WAS PERFECT, BUT THE RANGE VOCAL MORTEN´S MAKES IT "SUBLIME". HOWEVER DEPECHE MIGHT GIVE BACK THE SMALL TRIBUTE... I WOULD LIKE "CELICE" WITH DAVE GAHAN VOCALS...
great song covered by a great band.... two of the best bands that came out during the 80's.....
if seen and heard other bands covering other songs by DM but none top this version.... a-ha are simply awesome... pitty there farewell tour is coming to the end...
This version of the music is the HIT music version , DM version is only beautiful version , but if DM released this version in 1986 as original single version it would be a 1986 number 1 hit !!!! thats my opinion .
@efkagore a weak voice????? you are only refering to the best male voice of 1986 and 1987 in a row.... several mtv music awards.... not nominations!!! several grammy awards...... not nomiinations for one of the best male voices in the 80's and you call it weak????..... its a magnificent tribute to a wondeful music by a wonderful band to A wonderful band....
@efkagore well they both have angelical voices though martin does sing in a much deeper tone i agree... martins voice is awesome and i adore DM. i went to see their gigg in 93 here in Porto and it was a lifetime thing.... havent seen a-ha live ever, unfortunatly.... morten has a more versatile voice though... he can hold peaks for so long they actually consider them world records....lol j/k
@neojimmy721 well, that´s really nice...but, did you hear him (A-ha) singing live at the latest shows??? I don´t think he´s holding the level of his voice, as it was in 80´s...but, try to listen Martin Gore - his voice is still so strooong and deep... :)
@efkagore i know both voices, i grew up listening to both bands everyday... followed both careers carefully.... but dont even compare careers, morten was frontman for 25 years, sung 15 to 18 songs per concert in God knows how many world tours.... martin on the other hand sung 2 or 3 songs for david to rest his voice in concerts... mortens voice has to be worn out after the way he treated it....
Wow, this is really really bad. How can this be considered to be good? This doesn't even catch the dramatic vibe of the DM version. Morton has a beatiful voice, yes. But they should stick to their songs. Two thumbs down
@shanetracer I suspect that you're one of these people for whom it does not matter how brilliantly another band covers DM, it will never be good enough since you're so obsessed with them.
This is a wonderful version, but also very different from the original. This one is more atmospheric and dreamy, the original is more direct. a-ha have made three covers in their career (the other two are studio recorded) and in all cases, a-ha do their own thing with the song. That's the whole point of covers.
@CarlOscarAlsen thumbs up for your answer, you are so right.... crying in the rain is a great example and an awesome tribute to the everely brothers.....
@shanetracer two thumbs down for your comment...... they not trying to catch any vibe in their version.... its just a challenge any radio station does to the stars they interview... pick a song and sing it for the fans... they not trying to get off any proffit by recording it or ssomething like that
And (not to discredit the rest of the band), the synths are perfect for a cover, too. Subtle, interesting, but true to the original in the right ways...
An amazing - and, daring - choice for a cover! Love DM and a-ha equally! The original was near perfect (hence - a daring choice), but Morten's vocals/range are perfect for this song.
I recorded the hole radio2 show on my minidisk & this for me is so sweet + i can reach all the notesssssssss AMEN Superb. What a well underated band a-ha are they are truly one of the best live bands we have @ this time.
@LeftHandedGun08 i dont know how old you are but they were never underated..... they just changed their pathes concerning music... they did the 4 album contract and were over with it turning more non-comercial... in the 80's hunting high and low (album) sold over 12 million copies, scoundrel days more than 10 million and stay on these roads over 8 million copies. take on me took on 25 number one charts all over the world..... continues
@LeftHandedGun08 take on me got them 9 grammy awards in 85 including best video, best new band and best male voice.... they were considered best live act in 86 and 87, ive lost count to the number 1 singles they drew out of their albums... they changed direction after breaching contract with warner music and did their own thing....
a tribute from one of the most great bands on the earth to another great band like Depeche Mode... this is a pretty good song ... and just it sounds great when bands like A-ha can sing it.

Oh come on!
What is A HA? They are nobody!!
Depeche Mode is one of the best bands ever! How could someone ever dare to request DM to cover A HA?
The only band Depeche can cover would be The Beatles, if A ha covers dm is because they accept their influence and legacy and because they someone take advantage on Depeche's popularity,
@Scroundaldays i dont think Dave would be able to reach peaks on such songs as scoundrel days like morten does... or hold them for so long like in summer moved on...more than 40 seconds just on that note....
This song so fits Morten's voice... it is so absolutely beautiful!!!! A BRILLIANT version of this song by A-HA!!
Quite frankly, Morten needs to sing more songs like this... it was stunning. Come on guys... write some more songs like you did in the 80's to showcase that gorgeous voice that is still there just wanting to soar again!
What an amazing, wonderful surprise to have this posted for everyone to hear this superb rendition of a truly magnificent DM song! Thank you so much for posting it!
Thank you for upload. :) I did not know about a-ha covering one of my fav depeche mode songs. I am a big dm fan as well as a big a-ha fan, so this is just really cool to hear 2 of my fav bands into one song. Lol.
Congratulations for this one! I'm literally crying right now... the two world best bands ever (for me...) in sync. In a moment that all brazilians fans are deeply frustrated with the cancelled shows that would take place in october.
