  • I MYSELF BELIEF THAT THE VERSION OF MARTIN WAS PERFECT, BUT THE RANGE VOCAL MORTEN´S MAKES IT "SUBLIME". HOWEVER DEPECHE MIGHT GIVE BACK THE SMALL TRIBUTE... I WOULD LIKE "CELICE" WITH DAVE GAHAN VOCALS...

  • Touching performance... Morten's voice, Martin's lyrics and photo crossfade!

  • OMG - this is just sublime -

aha = he only band that could do justice to a song like this - perfect.

  • 12 people will crumble into dust

  • a-ha are geniuses!!!

  • I have always loved this song by Depeche Mode- but I didn't know how beautiful it really is before hearing this sung by Morten...

  • This song suits Morten's voice just perfectly and expresses the tenderness of the lyrics just right.

  • great song covered by a great band.... two of the best bands that came out during the 80's.....

if seen and heard other bands covering other songs by DM but none top this version.... a-ha are simply awesome... pitty there farewell tour is coming to the end...

  • oh no :S i love aha but this song belongs to martin only he can truely sing this song

  • @lilodevil they both have angelical voices.... martin sings it soooo well to thi song... but in mortens voice anything sounds....just great

  • bufffffffffff, no comments...

  • No!

I really love a-ha, but I love DM too and THIS is Martin`s Song...

  • This version of the music is the HIT music version , DM version is only beautiful version , but if DM released this version in 1986 as original single version it would be a 1986 number 1 hit !!!! thats my opinion .

  • a weak voice...don´t like it...

Martin Gore gives soul to this song...nothing compares to him... :)

  • @efkagore a weak voice????? you are only refering to the best male voice of 1986 and 1987 in a row.... several mtv music awards.... not nominations!!! several grammy awards...... not nomiinations for one of the best male voices in the 80's and you call it weak????..... its a magnificent tribute to a wondeful music by a wonderful band to A wonderful band....

  • @neojimmy721 okay, i don´t want you to agree with me...it´s just my opinion...

maybe I should say...brittle voice??? I miss the depth...

  • @efkagore well they both have angelical voices though martin does sing in a much deeper tone i agree... martins voice is awesome and i adore DM. i went to see their gigg in 93 here in Porto and it was a lifetime thing.... havent seen a-ha live ever, unfortunatly.... morten has a more versatile voice though... he can hold peaks for so long they actually consider them world records....lol j/k

  • @neojimmy721 well, that´s really nice...but, did you hear him (A-ha) singing live at the latest shows??? I don´t think he´s holding the level of his voice, as it was in 80´s...but, try to listen Martin Gore - his voice is still so strooong and deep... :)

  • @efkagore i know both voices, i grew up listening to both bands everyday... followed both careers carefully.... but dont even compare careers, morten was frontman for 25 years, sung 15 to 18 songs per concert in God knows how many world tours.... martin on the other hand sung 2 or 3 songs for david to rest his voice in concerts... mortens voice has to be worn out after the way he treated it....

  • Morten you're one of my favourite singer! but this sucked! couldn't compare to Martin Gore.

  • Absolutely wonderful!!!

  • OMG!!! love both Depeche Mode and A-ha...The best bands for me...unbelievable and amazing at the same time. ty for posting this :)

  • Wow, this is really really bad. How can this be considered to be good? This doesn't even catch the dramatic vibe of the DM version. Morton has a beatiful voice, yes. But they should stick to their songs. Two thumbs down

  • @shanetracer I suspect that you're one of these people for whom it does not matter how brilliantly another band covers DM, it will never be good enough since you're so obsessed with them.

This is a wonderful version, but also very different from the original. This one is more atmospheric and dreamy, the original is more direct. a-ha have made three covers in their career (the other two are studio recorded) and in all cases, a-ha do their own thing with the song. That's the whole point of covers.

  • @CarlOscarAlsen thumbs up for your answer, you are so right.... crying in the rain is a great example and an awesome tribute to the everely brothers.....

  • Comment removed

  • @shanetracer two thumbs down for your comment...... they not trying to catch any vibe in their version.... its just a challenge any radio station does to the stars they interview... pick a song and sing it for the fans... they not trying to get off any proffit by recording it or ssomething like that

  • Really interesting.....

    Thanks Diogo!

  • A great connection of A-Ha and Depeche Mode. Thanks for uploading.

  • nice cover^^*

  • interesting .....thanks

  • And (not to discredit the rest of the band), the synths are perfect for a cover, too. Subtle, interesting, but true to the original in the right ways...

  • An amazing - and, daring - choice for a cover! Love DM and a-ha equally! The original was near perfect (hence - a daring choice), but Morten's vocals/range are perfect for this song.

  • I recorded the hole radio2 show on my minidisk & this for me is so sweet + i can reach all the notesssssssss AMEN Superb. What a well underated band a-ha are they are truly one of the best live bands we have @ this time.

  • You are so right

  • @LeftHandedGun08 i dont know how old you are but they were never underated..... they just changed their pathes concerning music... they did the 4 album contract and were over with it turning more non-comercial... in the 80's hunting high and low (album) sold over 12 million copies, scoundrel days more than 10 million and stay on these roads over 8 million copies. take on me took on 25 number one charts all over the world..... continues

  • @LeftHandedGun08 take on me got them 9 grammy awards in 85 including best video, best new band and best male voice.... they were considered best live act in 86 and 87, ive lost count to the number 1 singles they drew out of their albums... they changed direction after breaching contract with warner music and did their own thing....

  • pretty good

  • a tribute from one of the most great bands on the earth to another great band like Depeche Mode... this is a pretty good song ... and just it sounds great when bands like A-ha can sing it.

  • NOT BAD.. QUITE LIKE IT

  • I don't like it. To me it sounds just as if he was singing the song from the radio...

  • yes they are singing live at bbc2 radio

  • It was a live take " or dont you listen to pure music"

  • Morten´s voice is sweeter.Could DM do the same with aha' songs?

  • yeah martin gore probably..hes the paul of DM

  • @Scroundaldays i dont think Dave would be able to reach peaks on such songs as scoundrel days like morten does... or hold them for so long like in summer moved on...more than 40 seconds just on that note....

A voz do Morten é simplesmente incomparável.

  • I am a fan of A-ha and i do like all 80s stuff...why did a-ha do a cover of Qns of Lust? are they fans of DM or just experimentation? great stuff

  • They had to pick one song that they like and choose this song. Not a bad choice :)

  • "I feel more connected to Depeche Mode" (compared to other acts of the 80s) claimed Magne Furuholmen

  • Beautiful!

A-ha manage to make this song sound like one of their own while remaining faithful to the original.

  • Martin Gore is my favourite voice within this song. But I like it, how Morton Harket sings it. A-ha meets Depeche Mode. This is great

  • A-ha does it better than DM briliant!!

  • they are great both DM and A-ha...

Of course the voice of Morten is more powerful than Martin Gore's.

    But..it's the nature..

that give to Morten that beautiful Voice..and to Martin the ability to write song like this and all the songs by DM...

  • so weird to hear a-ha doing dm,ive been

wishing theyd tour together along with

    simple minds :)

  • you know simple minds has announced a stadium tour for this winter with OMD :)

  • omg...I'm so moved ... a-ha will surprise me everyday, whatever the song they play !!!

what a great melody ... I will try it right now on my piano !!! thanks for sharing !!! you made my day with this song !!!

  • great sound quality thx!

  • My two fav bands also :) :) :) Really great version :)

  • This song so fits Morten's voice... it is so absolutely beautiful!!!! A BRILLIANT version of this song by A-HA!!

Quite frankly, Morten needs to sing more songs like this... it was stunning. Come on guys... write some more songs like you did in the 80's to showcase that gorgeous voice that is still there just wanting to soar again!

What an amazing, wonderful surprise to have this posted for everyone to hear this superb rendition of a truly magnificent DM song! Thank you so much for posting it!

  • Thank you for upload. :) I did not know about a-ha covering one of my fav depeche mode songs. I am a big dm fan as well as a big a-ha fan, so this is just really cool to hear 2 of my fav bands into one song. Lol.

  • Diogo!

Congratulations for this one! I'm literally crying right now... the two world best bands ever (for me...) in sync. In a moment that all brazilians fans are deeply frustrated with the cancelled shows that would take place in october.

  • Welcome brother...

a-ha the best for me....DM one of the bests for me too.

All brazilians really frustrated, but we´re waiting for they.

    Thanks for comment

  • great music!great synthé!!

  • really interesting thank you!:)

  • Morten and Martin. Two geniuses :)

  • I always thought Morten's voice was amazing. Suits this so well

  • July 25th actually, so yesterday.

  • it's amazing ! when was it recorded?

I really love this version sung by a-ha

and depeche mode is also one of my favorite band

  • I beleave it was on the 25th of july. It was played live at a radioshow in the UK, so it's not a studiorecording.

  • Perfect! My two fave bands!

  • I've always loved this song! ;-) Good to know my favourite guys like it too!
