I tried making theses and they were delicious! I didn't have any butter so I used shortening instead but I think I will use butter next time just for the flavour. ;) thanks!
@tonusbonus They never did thicken up, so I put them back in the kettle and cooked them longer. Since this was my first batch, I cooked them until they looked like yours. They turned out awesome. They go solid right away once they start to cool. Wrapped them in some wax paper and have been getting raves over them.
ooooooooooooooooo those look sooooo good!!!! :D My school was canceled 2day and we're going somewhere near a walmart so ill get the ingredents that i need :)
Great video and recipe. Thanks so much. Can you tell me how far in advance of Xmas I can make these caramels ? Do they store for very long or dry out? I'd love to make them soon if possible to put away . Thanks again !
You know, I have no idea. They've never lasted long around here. :) However, you can always make them now, and if they go bad you can do an emergency batch. Let me know how they work out. Thanks!
@tonusbonus To be just perfectly honest, it was my little nephew who typed such an atrocious comment. I sincerely apologize if he has offended you in any way, shape, or form. On behalf of my ancestral line, I hope you will accept our sorries. That little mo fo just doesn't know what's good for him sometimes. Nuh mean? Now I gotta give that little 2nd grade mo fo a time out or sumthin. Maybe Ill just make him eat this shit bahahahaha.
@tonusbonus I was just kidding this whole time. Ur caramel looked incredibly scrumptious, delicious, and life changing. The truth is that im just insecure with myself which is why I insulted it.
You are totally right. The original of course was flagged as copyright infringement. Some really nice Nat King Cole... but I've updated it now, so it's not so ghastly.
I would say the temp of the caramel is the key. Get a candy thermometer, they are pretty cheap, and make sure to get it to the exact temp, and no further. This is the difference in too hard and too soft. Also, using a bigger pot than you see in the video, ours was really close to boiling over. Leave yourself some room for the bubbles. Good luck! Let us know how it works out. Also stir pretty continuously, it takes some commitment, but it's worth it, cause the bottom will try to burn.
I made this today and they stuck to the glass:( did you put anything on it to keep it from sticking? We still ate the caramel it was so yummy but we had to scoop out chunks and wanted to wrap them like candy.
I would reccomend smearing butter on the pan, getting it nice and greased up. You could use a non-stick spray as well, but I think butter tastes better.
Oh Mamma , I see your'e cooking something else in your tummy oven. Good luck with the sweety pie. Unfortunatly we don't have any equivalent here in the UK to Corn Syrup. It all looks lovely . YUM YUM
Sorry for the confusion. It's my understanding that in the UK you can find glucose syrup. It often comes in jars/tubs instead of bottles. This will work as a good substitute.
If you can't find that either, I believe you can add a bit of cream of tartar to the sugar and forgo the corn syrup altogether.
Thanks Wrathika, When I search on Google. It find lots, all say same and Wiki too. It says Glucose syrup is simply sugar disolved in water ( as much sugar as can be disolved into the water without any crystals of sugar remaining ) . So, if this is correct it would mean leave out the corn syrup and just add more sugar. I found other recpise don't use corn syrup. Some other use UK "Golden Syrup" which is a sort of evry light treacle. I'll have fun trying them all . Thanks again.
I like the music. It sets the mood for the holidays. Thanks for posting.

You can use glucose instead.
