  • Lisa needs to make so more soul from the heart music and stop playing the WORLD could use it now lovya voice girl

  • i use to play this song over and over and over...I LOVE LISA'S VOICE

  • copy counting towards her sales, even if it was not purchased by consumers. The RIAA domestically counts the number of albums and singles shipped, not sold, in awarding gold, platinum and diamond certifications. This fraud consistently sent her to the top of the charts, but not on merit. This practice is done with many artist then and still today...either the TOP EXECS want you to be # 1 or at a mediocre status. How many today you feel should be at #1 but are not, instead it's some ruddy poot.

  • This woman would tear a new hole in Mariah's arse!! Don't get me wrong, Mariah was badd now and being married to her labels (Sony) music exec / co-owner just ENSURES # 1 hits and success. Tommy Mattola paid out and used alot of bribery to get her songs in constant rotation on the radio and on TV, overstocked in record stores worldwide, with each...Con'd

  • in my opinion, her voice is waaaaaay more mature, sensual, soulful and her high notes are not at all annoying like Mariah's...im just sayin...there's more to singing than the # of hits and popularity

  • i definately have to sample this ! this shit go!!!

  • I love this woman voice"

  • Unbelievable Voice... Amazing!

  • Love this woman mmm....she is NOT a POP singer and clearly has more soul than MC.I dont think whites can handle alotta soul at least in this country because i can name singers that literally sing circles around MC and btw i like MC alot, esp when she first came out.

  • vocal magic... her tone n texture is so thick and buttery... hmmm melts in my head :)

  • my favorite song from this album outside of Wildflower.

  • Great song, from an extremely talented artist who happens to be one of the finest female vocalists of the past 2 decades........easily. Lisa has always been content to fly under the "radar screen" of stardom, so to speak. I can't possibly imagine how BIG a "Star" someone as beautiful, talented & blessed as Lisa Fischer would be.....if she had a desire for the spotlight of a solo career. She would have been phenomenal.

  • Just saw Lisa in Dallas with Chris Botti. She still has it and more

  • I remember when this song first came out. I was in my sophomore year of college and working at Musicland (anyone remember that store?) part-tme, and I played this song during EVERYONE of my shifts. I ended up by the "tape" before I left to return to college that fall.

  • @brandonmurrell1

    WELL said!!!

  • I remember cruising down the highways with my dad and rest of the family, blasting all the oldie but goodies. Lisa was always one of my fav's. Something about her songs and voice brings back so MANY good memories. Whoo, I miss her.

  • This woman was just plain beautiful and could sing like no other.

  • so intense:Lisa,Anita Baker,Vesta Williams,P Hyman,Chaka Khan and Rachelle Ferrell....thank you ladies

  • @class76rodney so glad so can give props to all the queens instead putting down some to praise others ;-)

esp P Hyman.. many don't know about her! RIP I truly loved listening to her as a child along with everyone u named plus a few others like Toni B, Chante M, Whitney, & Shanice...

  • @class76rodney her songs reminds me of them lol. wait what about Cheryl Pepsii Riley & latifah lol.

  • do any hav any info or up todate on where this lady/artist is...?I miss this old school voice talent and she a beautiful AA woman to me

  • I love this song.....Great Voice.....

  • I agree with the Mikki Howard likeness, but I can't help thinking she reminds me of a much more refined Ms. Chaka Khan. All great songstress. These divas owe Ms. Fischer a tribute.

  • @NormaVV yes..............i think keyshia Cole have that miki Howard feel 2 her lol......

  • Though her album did well, she didn't seem to be into really promoting it the way someone that was really hungry would. She's happy as a background singer and doing well. Mariah wanted to be a big star and did have the people to ensure success behind her.. As far as the "whistle register" (female falsetto unless the person is a true coluraturo soprano, Lisa's voice is much cleaner and she's singing in her natural headtones...no airy or slightly screechy sounds.

  • @willowseeker, she does background vocals for the rolling stones, she makes about 5 million a year, and Mick Jagger doesn't want to let her go, he loves her. U can find her on YouTube with the stones, she currently lives in London.

  • @Harlem139Convent1 - i think you info is a little bit outdated- she ended with the stones in 2007 and she is currently touring with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti in NYC

  • I know she did backup for Luther, but what ever happen to her?

  • What voice Lisa Fisher has LOVE HER..

  • i dont understand why mariah is in this conversation but for those arguing that mariah is only successful because of the marketing.. you need to go listen to her voice and forget the image.. THATS why shes successful as for lisa.. she has a completely different voice than mariah which is GGORGEOUS i love her voice.. but it was HER decision to not release more albums and not show us the full extent of her talent , that was her choice dont blame mariah

  • @genius3495: I agree. Mariah Carey is the truth - she can really sing. And you are absolutely right about Lisa Fischer preferring not to release anymore solo projects. She did not like the spotlight and preferred the lucrative career as a background singer. This solo project of Lisa was great - great music -great voice.

  • @mariewilder she reminds me of mikki Howard.

  • @maxday1000: Oooh, yeah! Mikki Howard...another underrated phenomenal songstress. I agree.

  • @mariewilder don't laugh at this one, the back vocals almost sound a little like queen latifah lol..............also what about Vesta Williams and Sheryl Lynn? and miss holiday.

  • @maxday1000: You know what...I'm not laughing..because you are absolutely correct. Fischer's background vocals does sound like Queen Latifah. I really Latifah's singing voice. You have a really good ear for music.:) Love, love, love Miss Vesta Williams and Jennifer Holiday. Sherly Lynn could put it down also. You are in tune with the great female vocalists!!

  • @mariewilder i did not mean it like that thanks lol.

but every since i been into music, it got so good for me cuz, i started reading the credits and reading who singing the background vocals, thats how much i love music lol.

i also can tell what songwriters or producers wrote this and that song, i go by the music instrument style that they always use, when they write songs for other artist.

  • @maxday1000: Well your experience and attention to musical detail is obvious. I appreciate your knowledgable comments:)!!

  • I played this tape so much it got warped ha! this was my jam and my little girl{she is 21 now]USED TO SING THIS SONG THRU THE WHOLE HOUSE THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS

  • This will always be my jam.

  • Nobody can top her

  • Lisa you are SOOO INTENSE ! ( 11 *********** )

  • I'm surprised it a number of people that know this song. This song is all that.

  • Mariah and Lisa can't be compare because they are sooo drastically different. Personally, I think Lisa has more soul...!!

  • This my cut right here lovvvvvvve this song..............I blast this like crazy....Her CD is fire.......Nice....

  • Who cares about Mariah? It's all about Lisa.

  • This lady is incredible, what a voice!

  • both can sing i love the talent we need more that can sing these days

  • This song reminds me so much of my college day, and my first love! Thanks for posting!!!

  • lisa!

  • didn't lisa fischer go with another rising r&b artist? i'm thinking chris something but not christopher williams.

  • @cloakanddagger31 chris walker maybe. she sang on his 91 record first time

  • Hey commenters, how about some props to the "So Intense" songwriter, Essra Mohawk. For me, great talent is not something that be can measured or traded -it just comes from within and surfaces to the top, if you are lucky enough like all these gifted artists that are mentioned.

  • Lisa .. ? Love is just a kiss away ♥

    Mariah..? gimme shelter ☻☻☻

    say no more ☼☼☼

  • There are many people that can sing better than both of them, but they are not stars. You also need star power along with the voice. Go to any gospel church.

  • Mariah is a songwriter and you can't really compare the two. She has 18 #1 pop singles.

  • Mariah Carey had the Tommy Mattola machine working for her in order to get those 18 #1 pop hits. She had some talent, but she also had cross over appeal and massive marketing going for her compared to Lisa. You're comparing apples and oranges.

  • Sorry, but I wasn't comparing the two. I was responding to a comment. You made the comparison. I was just reminded you that Mariah wrote all of her #1's but two of them. She was being courted by other record companies before she met Tommy. Sony gave her the best deal. Tommy married her as one of his "business moves." He also married a Jewish woman to get into this Jewish family even though he was Roman Catholic and became Jewish afterward... but I digress! :-P

  • @drespi I totally agree on that. If Lisa had had a tiny percentage of the marketing machine working for her - she would not have remained as underrated as she unfortunately went. She set standards, if you asked me. You just gotta listen and look at her performance - amazing!

  • @drespi That's true. Tommy and Mariah were a bit like Berry Gordy and Diana Ross

  • @drespi true that... if it weren't for her marrying TOmmy... ( michael claimed him to be the devil).. i don't think mariah would have had as many number 1s... but that doesn't take away from her amazing voice.. i think Lisa Fischer voice is just as beautiful..... its all about who you know.. and also having talent to back it up...

  • that doesnt make a difference, people from nickelodeon and disney get record deals, doesnt mean they can sing, lisa can sing and mariah can sing, just because mariah has more no# 1's doesnt make her a better singer

  • I didn't say that either. I was just pointing to the fact that Mariah wrote most of her #1's which you failed to mention. Obviously, we can see that Lisa is very talented! :-P

  • Everyone has to live their own life, and supply it with as much happiness as they deem appropriate. I fully respect Lisa's personal decisions on the way she has conducted her career. She's created so much happiness, for so many. It's purely for my own selfish reasons, (and I'm sure many others as well), that we wish she would have created more "Magic" in the recording studio than she has. It seems almost criminal that a God-given "gift" as magnificent as the one Lisa possesses isn't shared!

  • What does she sing at 3:12 - 3:23? Can't get the words

  • I believe she's singing "I'm not the same and I'm thankful for the change. You see I, did not invite it, but I won't fight it, 'cause I'm in love with you"

  • Gosh, of course....

It's so obvious when someone points it out... Thank you so much, ebtg.

  • You're welcome :O)

  • im not insane...something something.....for a change

  • luckyc120, luckily (lol) the riddle has been solved by ebtg1. thanks anyway

  • Thanks so much for posting is all I do have to say fro myself. I lost this album to a pair of "red eyes" - ask Jamaicans about it - 'red yeye' in the vernacular. Hopefully, soon to be replaced but you're filling a gap in an appreciable way. Grateful.

  • Darn if I wouldn't love to have the lyrics to this song.. I can't find them on the net anywhere.. :(

  • They're pretty clear with artistes like Lisa who enunciate their lyrics. I do know them by heart but sit for a few and use the timer and the pause button to help you. You'll enjoy catching them. If it's still tricky, then I'll help. ;-)

  • Both ladies clearly have impressive whistle range but I don't think it's even a question of who goes higher. I take the acrobatics in context of what's happening elsewhere in the song: Lisa's voice has a warmth, depth and texture to it, a soulfulness that I find lacking in Mariah. To quote my sister, "it's a travesty Lisa is not the household name. Will the madness never end?!"

btw: Check out the amazing bgv LF does on a live version of Chaka's "And the Melody Still Lingers On."

  • Lisa is great, no doubt. Have you heard the origianl version of "So Intense" by Essra Mohawk? Pretty good as well & on YT too.

  • Still an AMAZING voice this lady has.

  • This CD is all that and some. Chante Moore reminds me of Lisa a little, but Lisa definitely got the edge is more diverse vocally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Reminds me of the old days...

  • This is my favorite song from the album!

  • Listen to that background, so intense, so intense, so intense, that is tuff right there!

  • This is a bad bitch! Rihanna and Ciara take notes.

  • thats right, get a pen

  • Sorry but Rhianna can't sing she's out of tune, plus lisa is in a league of her own

  • Clearly. thats why I said they need to take notes. smh....

  • You mean someone actually dared?!

  • OMG!!! Where is she? Incredible vocals. I get chills when I close my eyes and listen to her.

  • good production

  • My God what a voice and what woman.

  • i love how there are people that know there Singers! This is still my girl..

  • my goodness, at times she sounds EXACTLY like Patti Austin! I love the CD, her version of "WildFlower" is incredibly sexy. I'd love to hear some new music from her, and none of the computer crap that passes for music these days, please.

  • i want to get intense,lisa

  • This is one of my most favorite songs on such a powerful and diverse CD... this girl should surpass all of those so called Divas. She has such range and control of her voice. Wildflower is da bomb too! This song makes ya wanna cha cha!

  • She has so much style, octave range, and class at the same time. I always loved her style!

  • Listen to her whistle register. Better clarity and power than Mariah in my opinion. She sounds like Minnie up there when she does whistle notes.

  • i agree that she has a very beautiffull whistle but not more powerfull than Mariah had back then. Mariah can go higher and in the same notes it had the bout the same power than Fischer. check "All in your mind" that´s an F#6 with her maximum power.

  • well in many ways that is a matter of opinion. when i hear Lisa Fischer and then i hear Mariah i say thyat Lisa Has more power and at one point we cant say that Mariah goes higher than lisa because how do we know that lisa just held back and went as high as she wanted just like sometimes Mariah doesnt go as high as she knows she can. so we dont really know

  • Mariah´s voice is lighter than hers, and that is true but u can see that on her "can i ease the pain" that she gives her best in whistle i think its her maximum. and artists show their best skills in their first and second cds so ppl know what they can do. if she could go higher than Mariah she would have done it.

  • acually when i listen to the LP version amd some of her live version especially the one where she performs with Luther i noticed that somethimes Live she goes higher then the CD version that's why i said she can go higher then the Cd version cause ive heard her.

  • When she was live in Japan, her whistle was higher, louder, and stronger than on the LP version of "How Can I Ease The Pain"... you should check it out :)

  • Why must we grade when the quality of the delivery is always great? I couldn't care less either way; what I would love is to have Lisa back in her usual form where she belongs.

  • who cares they all sound great!!

  • really the truth is no it doesn't matter who is the best but at the same time im just expressing my opinion to those who keep debating who's better so that they will realize that no matter there is no right or wrong answer like you said they all sound great so really no one is going to so called "win" this debate.

  • I totally agree !

  • She needs to come back though, make more new songs, and also sing again and make more albums because she cannot be a backup singer forever.

  • This song should've been a bigger hit. It still sounds as fresh today as when it was first made.

  • I did not know that Essra Mohawk wrote this. It's a great song and Lisa can really sing.

  • Thank you for posting this song by Lisa. She is a fine singer and she really does a great job in expressing herself with this song. I am feeling her. Bring back good memories of days gone by.

  • Ask ESSRA MOHAWK, the songwriter for the lyrics; she's based in Nashville. Essra also wrote Tina Turner's STROGER THAN THE WIND which is phenomenal.

  • this cd was good. i love her version of wildlower.

  • Where can i get the lyrics to this song?

  • Notice how tight her background vocals are. Thats all her work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No she did not do that riff 2:54-2:57. Tuff right there

  • You can tell this girl sung back up for Luther, so intense, so intense so intense4:04-4:10, thats bad right there.

  • Love this song ! Love this cd ! Love Lisa !!!
