I get the part where the cross-over comes in the corners, but I see where my problem would be at the holding of the form to go between the markers(stress on the lower calves). I'm a big dude with weak ankles (lots of running) and it's my dream to be able to skate like these young people do.

you should put another cone coming out of the corner because then they can practice exiting the corner properly. Doing one more crossover out of the corner will carry your speed better into the straights (ie. 1 crossover before the apex and 2 after the apex)

I would like to buy a pair for the summer. How important is the fit? the speed skate is low on the ankle leaving room for alot of negitive play.Or so it seems.? are they hard to control?

yes they r cause u dont use ur feet to support ur self u use ur ankles and there hard but oce u get the hang of them than its easy and there not cheap either

Ice and inline are two completely different styles of skating in terms of form and muscle groups, so obviously different techniques qould be used for training. This training method would be a welcome addition at our practice.

actually, depending on the type of skating, they are the very same, long track ice is the same style as outdoor inline, the double push, and the short track is the same as nira track in indoor speed

I could never figure out why my right turn was always better than left - I would follow through so much better w/the right foot than my left. Me thinks my left leg could possibly be a tad shorter than the right... that or just not as lazy :P

Great training vid for how to do cross-overs. You can gather tremendous speed with this technique and it feels awesome and powerful while you're doing it. I've been skating since the 70's and this is one of my favorite things to do.
