@Francydpp She says straight up that she doesn't have a perfect accent, but that her job is to teach structure and provide explanations. The exercises and practice sessions use native speakers. She explains that once you have the basics, you will be able to easily learn more accurate pronunciation by immersing yourself more fully with native speakers. My advice to you: Inform yourself first and then criticize.
@chenbaosen That's a horrible way to teach Mandarin Chinese. The basics of Mandarin Chinese are pronunciation, tones, and tone changes. Without tone changes...just don't even learn Chinese. That's like learning Russian without knowing which part of the word to stress.
@Xinoutorah also true, but if you spoke no chinese what so ever and she just comes off with 'wo changes to a second tone because hen is a third tone' wouldnt you be confused and 'find the language difficult'? if they really wanted to learn chinese they would get a teacher
@Xinoutorah It is great when you speak your first Russian to a native speaker and they cannot understand you because you stressed the words at the wrong syllables. They can barely understand a word you are saying.
Her Chinese is good, but not good enough...X sound and Z sound not very good. And the last tone sounds weird..Actually lots of americans can speak very good Chinese..So,learn Chinese with a native speaker could be a better way
Dang!! I would so like HER to by my Mandarin teacher in my school! My teacher currently just says it unclearly and expects us to know!! I even have a freaking quiz tomorrow, I'm a new student at my school, I had absolutely no experience w/ Mandarin, but luckily this will help me...

Her pronunciation is horrid. If you want good mandarin learning go to chinesepod, or ezychinese. I even use mmm activechinese you might like the last one best. Let's see for free stuff I guess Chinesepod is good. Its free for 7 days. I just downloaded all the audio files from the Newbie section so once it's not free I won't care. Ezychinese is relatively easy and teaches you at a native speaking level.
I'm a student studying Chinese. for some reason "Ni hao ma" is the first sentence you learn, but I found out the hard way that nobody ever says it and it makes you sound foreign. use "zen3me yang4" instead.
Sometimes Chinese people do say "Ni hao ma?" or equivalent, but only if they really want to know the answer, not as a general greeting like in English. Therefore u can give them fuller answers than just "i'm fine". Besides, u may ask the question in a more specific form, such as "Ni zui jin hai hao ma?" - how were you RECENTLY.
Last one uploaded 8 months ago, would be great to have more. The structure is great and easy to understand... and the hot teacher keeps you interested ;)
great, the ideal learning program, easy, explicit, practical, excelent use of technology tools, and a cute and friendly beautiful teacher. Every student dream, I am really learning. Keep it up and put more.
Amazing program. She's a great teacher, and the fact that an American can actually learn enough to teach, now that's inspiring...After years of trying to learn Chinese with Chinese methods and logic, I'm glad there is an alternative.
Mmm... yes, her tone changed once that I noticed when she says "zaijian," and maybe not so comfortable saying it? But I think it maybe is encouraging to see a non-native speaker teach it, mm. ^_^
This is basic chinese, so i dont really know if this software is really useful? i think they should publish session 40 or something, so we can have an idea how much they teach.
dd1885 - It's easier to learn from listening to it in context, and when you have someone who can actually correct you.
I go to Chinese school--you can always look for one near you. It's kind of difficult and awkward at first (being out done by five year olds) but I think it's worth it.
thats what makes me not want to go, i cant seem to find one near stevenage (a place in the uk), and im shy also i dont want to be out done by five year olds :P
This is amazing, and the idea of having a teacher who went through the learning experience herself makes a huge difference. I can't think of better motivation.
She flubbed the tone on 見 (twice), but otherwise pretty darn good. Remember that most native speakers speak a style of Mandarin particular to their area, not the classroom standard. You want to learn slurred Shanxi patois? Go ahead.
In mandarin pronunciation is very important.... and your accent is terrible!!!

For "wo hen hao", since "wo" is the third tone, we need to change "hen" to the second tone.

Alright, I don't think shes a native speaker, her tones change so apparently fluenz could not find a good looking Chinese girl.
Anybody wanting helpful material get Mandarin Living language from Amazon, or Ebay.

A couple of my friends recommended a place. Try asking around--that way you won't end up going to a school which isn't so Caucasian friendly.
The fact that I was being crushed by the kindergartners made me work harder, so I guess in the end it was a positive thing.
