Get these u can thank me later they blow anything swiming aound and a bit above its price range out the water just to say I think they are much better in tonal quality than the Paiste Alphas!!!!!.
Zildjian K is best from Zildjian. and i like some of the XS20's better than sabian's higher lines... i like the B8 and the XS20 ride out of all sabian rides..
I dont know why people always compare Xs20 and APX ?? Why ?? Xs20 are beginners - intermediate cymbals and APX are proffessional cymbals like AAX , HHX , AA's or HH's ...
@junos6 HH and HHX are simply the top because they have more hand work on it and have a very musical sound... AA and AAX are medium-pro cymbals used by some professionals but that doesn t mean they are the best in the house... and how is APX pro level?
@RigoStar how many times do i have to say this? AA, HHX, HH, AAX = all same quality pro level cymbals, the only difference is in sound, and maybe some hand work in the HHX/HH series but thats what makes them sound dark and dry, unlike AA or AAX's which are bright and cutting , just as zildjian Avedis or A Customs. APX is pro level B8 cymbals, machine lathed and hammered, but with professional sound in mind.
yeah these cymbals arent really good for anyone that plays metal music..maybe hard rock or just general rock but not metal..i bought a 22 inch rock ride and wow...horrible bell cant cut through the rest of the instruments and i had 2 crashes of these and nah...good cymbals though i recomnd them to anyone not plaiying in a metal band (:
@TheCastroson I use a 20" medium ride in my metal band... seems to cut through just fine. I spose it can also differ between types of metal. :) The hats are great though... I love em.
I've used the B8's in the past. When mic'ed right they sound awesome. BUT....the XS20's are by far better sounding straight out of the box. If you're strapped for cash and you want a "decent" sounding cymbal go for the B8's. You can get a nice set w/ 14" hats, 14" cr. 16" cr. 18" cr. 20" ride and 10 splash for around $300 if you want "good" sounding ones get the same set up with XS20's for around $575. If you can afford it, go for the XS20's!! I am!!
@Lydirius I'm just starting out, and I still don't have "real" cymbals. All I have are stock Premier cymbals that sound pretty crappy. Would you recommend starting out with the B8 complete pack or the XS20? Budget isn't the issue since I'm paying and I can afford both. With the B8 I'll be able to exchange the heads on my drums as well though. And I insist on getting at least hats, 2 crashes, and a ride, because I really want the variety.
I've been in that situation before. If at all possible, go with the xs20's. If you can't get them AND heads......well, get the b8's. The set I bought (xs20's) was a pretty big set. Guitar Center has a deal on the b8's: the exact set up you want for 260+tx Hopefully you have stands. As far as head go, you can get complete sets pretty cheap. SO..xs20 if you can..b8 if you have to.
@Lydirius Thanks for the advice. I'm considering the PST5 too. Any comparison? Anyways I don't live in the U.S btw. But I can switch currencies for the sake of this conversation. I now have around $907 saved. My last stretched budget was around $667 (my last decision). The xs20 with stand (unfortunately I still need those :P) and Evans heads (full 5 piece reso and batter except bass reso, since my brother is getting me an Inked one) are around $855. You see where I'm going?
@Lydirius Sorry for cutting this into two replies, got out of the character count :P. anyways. 200 bucks above my budget... For the b8 thats 270 bucks cheaper on the cymbals themselves. Still recommend? I'm in for the idea to be honest. I just don't want it to be something reckless a beginner drummer would do.
(I just finished a small 40 min practice or so right before I read this ;)
I'd say brilliant. I played them both and though a lot of people may say "there's no difference", there is. You can hear it. Just like playing a brand new clean cymbal versus playing that exact cymbal after years of playing and no polishing. PLUS, they look better!
do think these or the sabian apx line is better. i play metal. are the apx 18" crashes good cuz im thinkiing of getting one. are they professional? better than zildjian zhts?
@wes0014 even though I'm a zildjian fanboy I can't argue with that haha I'm actually getting a pair of evolution hats next month, I'm starting to accept that sabian has cymbals that are better than zildjians and zildjian has cymbals that are better than sabians, however I still think paiste sucks
certainly the apx were made for a modern metal sound.i have heard the zhts used in a butch of music but not metal particularly. as far as xs20 i use them for alternitive and the crashes do project but they arent particularly low wich is a trend of metal music that i have heard your best bet is going to a guitar center or music store and test em out. because at the end of the day music is all your prefferance.
i've heard so much about paiste value and i like my pst 5 a lot but i also hear a lot of good things about these Xs-20s. preferably from someone who has used both, which sounds better/more valuable?
recommend some combinations? for instance, Xs-20 ride w/ alpha crashes....ya know.
honestly, the xs20 sounds almost identical to the higher end cymbals, your the only person that can tell the difference, i have the 20 inch and they sound awesome
I really don't like the ZHT line at all. I would go with either the PST 20 inch medium ride or the one of the XS20's in this price range, or try and find a really nice used ride cymbal.

seventeen17van 2 years ago
you can't compare paiste alpha with these xs20's
the alpha's are B8 and the xs20 are, well B20 and CAST
although,
rides: the paiste's , the xs20 rides don't have a decent bell
anything else, the xs20's!
the crashes sound amazing, even the 18" crash-ride sounds lively, doesn't have a gongy/ride overtone when you crash it
Deathstorm3 2 years ago
are they loud enough? i've heard they aren't very loud.

here are the possible problems:
1: YOUR TECHNIQUE maybe you hit the cymbal wrong check the SABIAN website to see how to take care of your cymbals
2: Its the cymbal makers fault
if its not your technique, call sabian and send it back in it has a 2 year warranty i believe
cuz xs20 wont break that fast :)

really, these cymbals sound close to the B8 line to myself. the ride and hi hats sound a lil' better than B8s but not by much. not saying it's a bad sound, I very much like the B8 crashes, but the XS20 doesn't seem to be a huge step up.

Every drummer has a few endorsers they take seriously. But every drummer ought to take Don, as an endorser, seriously!
