  • david duval is now and always was an arrogant stuck-up jerk, who once referred to the fans at a tournament where he bogied the final hole, a bunch of low lifes with nothing better to do. not my interpretation of someone who is a class act.

  • Great job David and hope to see you in a green jacket someday!

  • In the light of what Tiger has done to his family......this interview makes more sense now than it did then. I wonder if Tiger would trade all his majors to have been a better father and husband.

    Just sayin.......

  • you knw that tiger's only goal in life is majors...he doesnt care about what he has done...hes trying make us think he is sorry, but he did what he did and hes not sorry...hes a golfer...with no soul

  • @SixxAfterMotley for fucks sake people, why don't you all see tiger for what he is, on the golf course, who gives a shit what he does outside of it. No one pries in your private time, the media did what to him that no other golfer could, bringing him down to ranked 9th. he is the best golfer in the world and he will break jack nicklaus record easily befor retiring. As far as david duval , he should make acome back with the talent that he had or has, but he doesn't seen top give a shit abot golf

  • @marcusdolby1 You really wonder that? I don't, the answer seems obvious to me. He might be sorry he lost his wife and kids, but there's no way he'd trade the majors to get them back.

  • @marcusdolby1 "I wonder if Tiger would trade all his majors to have been a better father and husband". I doubt it.

  • @EagleEyeGolfer And thats the sad part....... he wouldnt. Class act that Tiger is.

  • David's a great guy. Love to see him every time he's playing. Went to school with him too!

  • go David! Tomorrow is a very big day. Tied for third, five strokes back, one ahead of Phil, FIVE ahead of Tiger. guess it also depends on Barnes and Glover holding on too. But man would it be something to see David on top.

some of these comments are very interesting now.

anyone have a link to Duval's speech from the B. Open? I never read/heard it but I've seen it referenced a few times.

  • the more interesting question would be...who's better David Duval of 1998 -2001 or Phil Mickelson.

  • Duval.

Phil is solid but he has never dominated the tour the way DD did back in the day. Plus David never hit that point of only caring about majors.

  • Duval. I would even be willing to say he is better even if he could only use old equipment (Titleist 975-D, and balata). His long iron shots were some of the best, and he wasn't much shorter than Tiger in all aspects.

  • rooting for duval this weekend. i actually saw him smile a couple times today. it was nice to see he's playing well and having fun again

  • Ok, so with that rule in place, can John Daly ask for a medical exemption stating that being an alcoholic is a disease? I like David, but he has not shown one glimmer of hope or improvement in years. Maybe the second season of the Haney experiment should be with David.

  • duval is a class act and his speech after his open win speaks volumes.

  • yeah I miss the guy. I hope he gets back into the groove soon. He's a great player when he's on.

  • pfft tiger would destroy him in every possible way

duvals 59 was pretty awesome tho

  • A very bright bloke, a recent family man and a great golfer. A real human being as well - celebrating with the Europeans after the Ryder Cup, a decent speech after winning the Open. The man is a class act. To all those who over-rate Tiger, stop and consider that people are different, with different outlooks; different goals. Tiger's goal of 19 majors - well, 19 is the figure HE regards as 'THE' target, he's probably the greatest sortsman ever, and it has therefore become consensus that 19=great.

  • I see where your coming from panther but its not just him who regards 19 as the target, the number of major championships is considered as the measure of a players career by many of the greatest players of all time.

  • Something tells me that Duval will come out of nowhere and be a top player really soon. He's certainly got the right attitude/

  • @djkiln lol...that comment was 2 years ago...how much longer

  • @djkiln .....and we're still waiting.......

  • I have a suggestion for all of the Tiger Woods fans on here maybe if you ask Tiger woods he will allow you to whipe for him. It's annoying that nobody can talk about the Kenny Perry's of golf. There are plenty of other golfers who can contend every week, and there are others that can contend any week. The world ranking doesn't just factor in wins it factors in consistent play so YES I CAN SAY AT ONE TIME DAVID DUVAL WAS THE MOST CONSISTENT PLAYER ON THE TOUR AND WAS NUMBER ONE DURING THAT TIME.

  • Duval was a legend at his time. Nobody could take it as low as this man could, he was a birdie machine. If he was healthy and didn't suffer from vertigo he would compete with Tiger every week.

  • if Duval wouldn't have all his problems, he would be a serious challenger to Tiger now. When he was number 1, he was the player with the greatest physical ability

  • ragardless of whether he makes it back or not, duval was and continues to be a class act

  • One of only 2 professional who shot 59 in a pga tournament. Hope to see you play well again and compete against ernie, tiger, phil and the rest of the pga superstars.

  • wrong....al geiberger and chip beck have shot 59 as well as duval

  • For a short time, Duval was the best in the world -- yes, even a bit better than you-know-who. But he lost his game, while you-know-who kept going strong.

  • He was #1 for longer than a short time.

  • Blankcnote, I've never cared a bit for the "official world ranking". That number is meaningless to me since there have been times when TW was #1 in the rankings based on past results but clearly wasn't the best at the time. Duval was the best, regardless of his ranking, for -- what, a year? A bit more? My point is that something happened to end it and he's not likely to come back (though I'd be very happy if he did).

  • I agree world golf rankings are shady. Because you could be considered #1 and not even win a tournament. I was just saying that their had been multiple times through Duvals career where he was or could have been considered the best golfer in the world. 95-97, 99, 00-01. His downfall was multiple back and neck injuries, and he had some other things happening at home. From what I understand.

  • You're kidding right? NOBODY was better than Tiger in 2000-01. Four straight majors?? Duval didn't even win until 1997. How could he have been number one? Think before you write...

  • I said COULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED. I also said that the world golf rankings are shady and you don't have to win to be in the top 10Read before you reply.

  • Only someone who never heard of Tiger Woods could "consider" David Duval to have been number one in the time frames listed. Just my opinion.

  • yes he was.. tiger won the masters in 97 and then did not play that well in the 2 seasons following until the 99 uspga in which time david was the most consistent player in the world!!!

    FACT!!

  • tiger won 8 times in 99 ...david duval won 3 times in 99.... Duval may have been better in 1998 and maybe the first part of 1999, but who cares? they are both great

  • tiger was better in 2000-2001 than he is now I think.

  • Duval was only ranked number one for 15 weeks.

  • Would be nice to see him back in contention. Love his swing
