@deathonics LOL LOL I don't want to play it either. but instead of being informative these vids tend to just be an exercise in what's not musical. Also, his tone sucked balls, but that's not his fault.
@DumbShitOnGuitar Ya, but you don't need to explain it, because people like you are already tryin to put down good guitarists on all of these vids ANYWAY! He posted the video to show his shredding, not for you to explain how simplistic it really is. If you think its such amateur stuff, y don't you put of a video of you doing it!? You also said it wasn't music, but in almost all the songs i know, scales are highly used. Please, stop trying to make good guitarists look bad... its pathetic.
I'm pretty sure the whole "Betcha Can't Play This" thing is a joke. That's just their "slogan" or whatever you want to call it for these demonstrations that a lot of guitar players do obviously. They're not saying you really CAN'T play these things, and they're just trying to make all the guitar players sound cocky. A lot of people take this so seriously like they really take it to offense that they said that. It's pretty funny.
Plus, he actually plays this really clean for going up the neck,
this guy is a madman. but i hate it when i hear..." i betcha can't play this is". i guess i can blame GW for that. It's kinda a shitty attitude. i really wouldn't want to play that paticular riff thing anyway. Play that on the radio for 2 1/2 minutes and see how many ppl turn to a different station. If ur gonna say "betcha cant play this", play something on a classical guitar like La Catedral or something. Now that would be cool!!
you should get some of his dvd's if u dont already have them. i got about 6 or 7 of 'em and theyre great!!! i even make my girlfriend watch them. haha
Shredding is an art form. Most of the "shredders" I listen to can play with as much emotion as Clapton, Gilmour, Knopfler, Cray etc etc. However, I have yet to see any of the guys I've mentioned play with the speed and precision as Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Buckethead etc etc. I'm not saying Clapton isn't a great guitar player. Of course he is. It's just easier to play that "blues" type of music and make it sound good.
Regardless the point is, technical ability is repetitive after awhile. Sorry but I don't know how any full technical guitar players connect to an audience with doing stuff like that for 3 hours.
Shawn Lane played with just as much soul as clapton and all of the greats. Sure he was technical but he also put his soul into it. I agree completely tho
i cant understand why people love shredding. ok its impressive that people can play very fast but thats not what music should be about. the guitarists i like (robert cray, lesley west, mark knopfler) can express real emotion in five or 6 note phrase whereas these guys play 78 and it communicates nothing except 'oh im so fuckin fast'.
A lot of shredders don't express feeling in their music. But if you think it's impossible to shred with emotion and grace, you've obviously never listened to Paul Gilbert.
even though fredrik is not in arch enemy anymore he's better than slash imo
i admit slash has feeling but his technique sucks....i dont think he could play anything from Arch Enemy but i could bet that Fredrik knows atleast one GNR songs...hell 11 year olds know how to play Sweet Child 'O Mine =]
an 11 year old can play the riff to sweet child o mine...most riffs are easy to play, slash really shines with his guitar solo's you have yours and i have mine.
im not ruling out that there isnt an 11 year old guitarist playing arch enemy...if there is more power to him =]
but i dont see hundreds of 11 year olds showing off their newly learned "night falls fast" riffs....as opposed to the hundreds of 11 year olds playing sweet child o mine and welcome to the jungle
but you do know your comparing a metal band to a rock band and GnR's riffs are classic and easy but they are good and thats whats good about GnR. all i said is that slash could do that i forgot if i said hes better or not but if i did i ment by his songs slash could do those 2 figures with easy just get that tabs for them and its easy as hell ht eonly hard part is the strumming other than that its not so hard but even though theres hundreds of 11 year olds playing the riff see how many play solo
and keep in mind thats not just with GnR other songs like crazy train or rock you like a hurricane have pretty easy riffs but complicated solo's and randy rhodes is a talented guitarist
ive been playing guitar for 7 years =X i can play most songs by ear but anyway lol pointless arguement we had if it was an arguement xD but thats good when i started playing guitar after 2 years i was still looking up tabs xD
lol im still looking up tabs for songs i want to learn xD
i can just play some older stuff by ear
the bands i listen to are like arch enemy...i like Children Of Bodom, The Faceless, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio...bands/people like them =]
well have fun playing guitar =]
maybe ill be playing songs by ear 5 years from now lol
They are all better then you or I and after all the bickering and back pedalling they are still going to be just that....better then you who says his technique sucks.
I love Arch Enemy AND G'n'R but they are to different of styles to compair.
I'll bet I could. It's just scales. It just takes time to build up the speed, not to mention that the ton of distortion makes it sound cleaner than it really is. Do it with NO distortion and I'll be impressed.
"Betcha can't play this" is a series from a magazine or something, where they'll have guitarists and play something uber fast just for fun, then show you how it's done. Plenty of the other videos on YouTube, give 'em a search.
That's so easy. Lol. He's just playing a quite basic scale that anyone can easily learn. Practice gave him the speed. Just try it sometime guys. Take a simple C Scale for example, and just play it in a flurry. Enjoy! =D
