I'm pretty sure the whole "Betcha Can't Play This" thing is a joke. That's just their "slogan" or whatever you want to call it for these demonstrations that a lot of guitar players do obviously. They're not saying you really CAN'T play these things, and they're just trying to make all the guitar players sound cocky. A lot of people take this so seriously like they really take it to offense that they said that. It's pretty funny.

Shredding is an art form. Most of the "shredders" I listen to can play with as much emotion as Clapton, Gilmour, Knopfler, Cray etc etc. However, I have yet to see any of the guys I've mentioned play with the speed and precision as Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Buckethead etc etc. I'm not saying Clapton isn't a great guitar player. Of course he is. It's just easier to play that "blues" type of music and make it sound good.

i cant understand why people love shredding. ok its impressive that people can play very fast but thats not what music should be about. the guitarists i like (robert cray, lesley west, mark knopfler) can express real emotion in five or 6 note phrase whereas these guys play 78 and it communicates nothing except 'oh im so fuckin fast'.

but you do know your comparing a metal band to a rock band and GnR's riffs are classic and easy but they are good and thats whats good about GnR. all i said is that slash could do that i forgot if i said hes better or not but if i did i ment by his songs slash could do those 2 figures with easy just get that tabs for them and its easy as hell ht eonly hard part is the strumming other than that its not so hard but even though theres hundreds of 11 year olds playing the riff see how many play solo
