Yowzers! This young lady has an amazing voice! This is a delightful rendition of the Rodgers & Hart classic. Simply blew me away! Thanks a LOT for sharing this gem with us! :)
I love this song! Its so strange to think that a song from such a old musical speaks to me so much. Its cheesy to say, but the lyrics describe a lot I've experienced.
"At Last" is an ETTA JAMES tune, NOT Ella, and especially NOT Beyonce' who should not have sung it at the inaugural unless Etta was in the ground...thanks;-)
@ ShineyTaps If you listen to Ella's Rogers and Hart Songbook the lyric is *long for the trousers that cling to him*. The version is extra long and I think it's Ella's attempt at being riske
@Nef1122 Right, and I love Ella for putting that in. If you're a guy and you want be really risque you can sing "worship the [knickers | panties] that cling to her"
She's an awesome Soprano for this song. I agree with AchillesShield, today's singers don't appeal to me either but she was good :) nothing compared to, you know Ella though.
I'm not partial to today's singers, but this is surprisingly good! I'm also surprised she did a sanitised version. She sings "And long for the day when I cling to him"; originally, it's "And worship the trousers that cling to him". Male singers usually use the former because it's more suitable (no, Bingle99, this song was originally written for a woman).
Still, it's nevertheless a great interpretation, and that's all that matters!
Very true, thats why i was surprised to fine that Ella Fitzgerlald sings it as "And long for the day when I cling to him" However it is still an amazing song.
Beautiful voice and a deeply soulful take on this all American classic. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she looks great, too.
I have to disagree with the poster who said the song was meant to be sung my a man. It may have been originally performed by a man, but I think the lyrics are equally well suited for a female singer.
Bingle99, you silly billy, you should do some research before you put things down...This song was written for a woman and is here far from being murdered in this beautiful performance...
Porto. Deixa-me recomendar-te uma outra cantora que aprecio muito e que, à semelhança da silje nergaard, tb é de um país nórdico. Rebekka bakken. Aqui no youtube n tem videos bons dela. Se procurares musicas dela recomendo que ouças: "if only", "cover me with snow", "virgin's lullaby", "Do you know my love", "we hit it again" (tem um video desta musica aqui no youtube mas com má qualidade)...acho que recomendei musicas a mais :) espero que aprecies.
So good. Kiddghost, a lot of people people know about this woman in Europe. The reason that you don't know her over there is because America somehow finds it so difficult opening up for europien artists and music for that matter... Open up for god sake! The world IS actually bigger than Northamerica, if anyone over there should doubt about it ^^ but back to the music.. amazing!
she is absolutely devine....i wish more westerners new about this beautiful woman...im from canada myself and i think im the only teen to have heard of her
Uma voz única, num clássico deslumbrante, cantado por muitos e muitas vozes de oiro... mas nenhuma como SN

Worship the trousers, that cling to him. Horizontally speaking, he's at his very best. Thank God, I can be oversexed again.
These lines were removed from this song before its first recording. Marin Mazzie has the original words on her cover of this classic.

Doesn't do it for me sadly, perhaps it's the change of pace. The song just doesn't have its rhythm anymore in this version and it's annoying.
gabriellle89 3 years ago
I can't quite agree with you. Silje's version gave the piece a different angle - I guess "to each his/her own" is the most apt way to put this...
