When I was a young actor a director I was working with INSISTED that I see a movie called "Going Places" that was running in a small independent movie house. I went and it changed everything that I thought about acting. Seeing Depardieu was like the first entrance of Brando in Streetcar Named Desire. Blew my mind.
@teejate the same feeling I had, when I was younger (13) and wached for the first time Le Dernier Metro.
Gerard's acting was something I couldn't express in words. I was flowting with love for a week or so, It was love at first sight. and ever since he is my favorite actor!
in order to fully appreciat the emotional impact of this scene...one must see the whole film...otherwise, this scene is just another ending.....this scene tore me up....and rightly so....but you must see the film from the start....to appreciate this ending....and the song packs a wallop! but i stress...see the film from the beginning...
I totally agree with you!! I saw Green Card when it was released and I own a copy and a copy of the Stdk.
The emotional feel of that ending just overtakes you and I get chills every time I watch it. Andie McDowell is one of my favorite actresses. Glad to know that someone else out there got the same feelings from the movie as I did.
And thing, that in our days the process to take green card is the same. Evidence that u live together, bilss, photos, letter, medical exams, interviews....no only in usa, but in australia too.
alguién puede bajar la parte donde Gerarard toca el piano... y lo toca tan estupendo... sobre todo cuando se pone a hablar en francés y le pide a la señora que lo traduzca....esa parte es muy pero muy buena
Great one..watched it when I was a kid and still love it.. swimster182, yup he got deported but they are still married..and I think they have a distance relationship until they sought everything out..
This is my all time favorite romantic comedy. WHY ??? Because it avoids the 'Happy Ending' cliches of all the other films in this genre and gives us a more realistic, bittersweet ending instead.

Watch out for marriage fraud!
-Be careful if you are marrying someone that is an illegal immigrant. It can be difficult to know if they are marrying for love or the green card.
-Never co-sign a credit card/car with a lover or spouse.
-Avoid mixing finances and legal issues together.
Consider yourself warned & be careful!

I always loved that song at the end. I think it's a civil rights movement song, actually.
