Congressman Ryan is NOT a "political grandstander" as another commenter asserts, but he IS a very knowledge member of the House Budget Committee who is passionate about addressing our national financial crisis. @mrbraindump he had 3 minutes in which tax cheat Geithner interupted him! He asked a straight forward question, and TG back peddled in agreement. He stated that the budget totals need to be 3% below the GDP. Paul Ryan just asked why this wasn't in his budget. How was this grand standing? I see a lot of excuse making and no actual solutions. It's a great question to ask, why they're trying to solve over spending with over spending!

Ryan is just shouting at Geithner and not letting him explain why the Federal budget keeps getting bigger! It keeps getting bigger because Muncipalities and States keep moaning about deficits and how the Federal Government overspends and needs to be downsized. They immediately then run to Uncle Sam, crying for help. Notice how Ryan doesn't look too smug these days when he sees that his own constituents oppose his plan.
Quit fuckin smiling Geithner, while your dumbass gets to go home to a rich ass home, plenty of hard working American citizens aren't so prone to be able to smile today with no jobs.
@SuperCulloden I am not going to apologize for his tax evasion, but he has since had to pay the money owed. Geithner is far from ideal. If Obama was who he says he is, he would have put someone like Joseph Stiglitz at the Treasury.
He said, "sure... I AGREE." It's right there on video my friend. He knows it. Seriously, look up the numbers. The oil industry makes far more profit than we give them for subsidies. They do not need it. All you're doing is parroting Right Wing talking points. This isn't a sporting event & the Republicans are not the home team. You can admit it when they are wrong. It doesn't say much about the kind of person you are if your going to deny truth.
Geithner couldn't even file his own taxes properly. Why would anyone be surprised?
Thanks to Paul Ryan for calling him out on it. This admin is so used to "blame Bush" as their excuse for everything they do! The time for excuses is over!!!!!
as an aussie I am amazed at how badly the u.s. is run.thank god I'm aussie where everyone but the greens understands the need for fiscal responsibility and job growth.
I like how Ryan is constantly looking at his fellow Repubs for aproval. Paul Ryan is Peter Keating (The Fountainhead). He is a mdiocre politician playing politics. If it were a Repub Admin, he would not be speaking in this manner. He is trying to take a 1% difference & portray it as the Grand Canyon. I'm no fan of the Fed, but discrening eyes see through Ryans B.S. Paul Ryan is a player in this political theatre.
Thanks for clearing that up. I was lost in the sauce until you pulled me out. I agree with you. It's like 1/10th of an actual philosophy that has no real base in reality. The only reason I bring it up is because Paul Ryan is a huge fan of Ayn Rand. Which in itself is enough reason to disregard his politics & his existence.
it is strange. But Ayn Rand really believes all politicians are like Toohey and Keating.
as for Ryan, he's been going against all the Presidents. he was very vocal against Bush in Bush's increasing the deficit. He's really one of the biggest deficit hawks; that's always been his way, even if his party is sometimes upset by that.
Another Paul Ryan fun fact: He used social security benefits to pay for his education which he is using to try & destroy social security. The more I look at Paul Ryan, the more I see hypocrisy.
It wont let me post a link, but Google: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Paul Ryan & you'll find it on the US news website.
Sorry, but he does want it to go away. Just like medicare, otherwise Repubs would not be giving away tax dollars to Record profit making oil companies while killing social services. Now would be a good time to wake up.
1. He's trying to even out the tax code so that there aren't these loopholes for oil companies.
2. You might say bad things about Republicans; honestly, I don't think they're doing all those things. Democrats had a lot of chances to clean up the tax code as the majority; they didn't even try.
3. He doesn't, simple as that. He's trying to again, make it sustainable. Paul Ryan does more to help Medicare than the Obamacare or Obama budget does.
1. He is lowering the effective tax rate for corporations in his Bill.
2. I never said Libs were innocent, but the recent vote to end Oil subsidies was opposed by only 2 Dems while every Con voted against it.
3. It's just like the way they are demonizing public unions. They say that private unions are fine, that it's the public unions they have a problem with when in reality they have done everything in their power over the years to destroy all unions. Wolf in sheeps clothing.
1. Very true, but he gets rid of all the tax loopholes, a bipartisan strategy long supported by both sides.
2. There's a reason for that. Oil subsidies are so that we don't have to spend 5, 6, or more dollars for a gallon of gas. It's necessary, unless we want to hurt businesses inside America. It's easy to get angry at oil companies for having subsidies, but it's necessary.
3. I think that's a bit of a non-sequitur. Really doesn't seem the same.
1. Closing loopholes is good. Lowering their taxes & closing loopholes means that nothing changes, which is the shell game he's playing.
2. What? You're insane if you actually believe that. Supply is up & demand is down for oil & they are still raising prices as we speak. Subsidies, supply, & demand have little to do with the price of gasoline. Specualtion & the oil company itself control price. Do some research & you'll see for yourself.
1. No, lowering taxes and closing loopholes means that companies like GE don't get away with paying NO taxes, and small businesses can actually start hiring.
2. Yeah, so you're saying everyone in Congress who voted for extending subsidies, are fools? Most people in Congress voted for it. Subsidies do make a difference. In Europe, the price is even higher. And this works in the farm market too. Food prices are low because of farm subsidies.
And by the way, important things you've conveniently left out in that video:
1. When these comments were made. It could have been made in the Clinton years.
2. That a lot of these comments are cut out so they appear biased. They said it might be on the table, not necessarily that it's a necessary cut. I am sure, with the prices we have right now, we might need those subsidies.
Actually that was your hero Paul Ryan last month saying that he agrees that the subsidies need to stop. So which is it. Is Paul Ryan wrong on subsidies? Go ahead & admit that he is wrong. It'll make my day :)
uh no. Had you kept watching the video, it would have been a lot more clear what Paul Ryan endorses. Like most people, I agree that oil subsidies are good short term policy and bad long term policy.
Again, that's the problem with selectively cutting certain things. Ryan was talking about ending tax shelters for corporations, and he probably thinks the same way I do. When he responded with sure, that's the same way I would respond to a question, with "Sure" or "Okay."
The ONLY way to bring jobs back to America is to lower the minimum wage to $2/hr.
This is the only way we can compete with China. Paul Ryan and my fellow republicans need to act on this now. Employers also should not have to carry the burdern of paying for health care either. Go get em Paul!
Rep. Ryan should be leading the country and not Obama. The Democrats haven't done one thing since this video originally aired. Sad. Obama is still blaming Bush!
President George Bush largest budget was $2.9 with a $239 Billion deficit.
.
Obama proposed $3.7 Trillion with a deficit of $1.4 Trillion for 2011. Currently based on usdebtclock org, the debt/GDP is 97.2%. Yet Obama claims that his spending is reasonable better than Reagan.
.
Obama and democrats are trying to position themselves as the “good guys” using a government shutdown as a political strategy for their exorbitant spending. The Conservatives are trying to control spending.
@Nerocification It may have worked back in 1995 but I think people are alot smarter now and the people won't buy any of the games the Democrats try to play.
Thanks for holding his feet to the fire Rep Ryan. It's ridiculous that he wastes precious committee time thanking you for being concerned about fiscal responsibility when - of his own admission - he has no interest in walking the walk.
Debt commission, It was very revealing, Tax right off's loop holds $1.18 Trillion
$2.5 trillion Iraq war all the dead close estimates 1,000,000 people. Fraud estimates $700 Billion each year. All for those who wish to impose their will on others and cheap oil. Lots of problems to deal with. At least Obama lives in the White house. Bush spent most of his time on the ranch.
Feed the world and their would be great pride, instead of shameful murder.
@BonerMaroner Your numbers are rediculous. Your estimate would have us killing 2% of the Iraqi population, spending more on the war in Iraq then we spend on all the personnel, equipment, and weaponry in the US Military. Ontop of that we did not get cheap oil out of the deal unless I am missing something when I look at the price at the pump. I mean seriously get your facts straight before you sound stupid.
@dammmmm1 I got news for ya mister. The Dems are the every bit the party of big money interests, with Wall Street, trial lawyers, and Big Labor solidly in their corner...as are the GOP.
Rep. Ryan has an IDEA...the only published and credible one out there today...to fix the oncoming fiscal hell that will be wrought by out-of-control social programs. Do you, or any other "liberal" out there, have a BETTER plan? I would love to hear it. I am positive Rep. Ryan would too.
Today’s Republicans fight like dogs to get tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires while at the same time blocking unemployment extensions for suffering Americans who lost their jobs due to Republican policies. To fight to keep billions in oil company subsidies while blocking health care for 911 Responders (heroes) is classic GOP.
We know where the real problems exist, and Republicans are part of the problem.
They’re handing it all over to the corporate elite.
@machinasapien you know the CBO scored Paul Ryan's roadmap as doing EXACTLY what he's been claiming it does right? You know this is the only proposed action to bring solvency back to SS and Medicare? What is your criticism of Ryan? That he has ideas? Is your position so weak it can't stand the test of debate? Can you hold debate without the name calling? Use FACTS.... like Ryan is doing here
@3martijns to bad the CBO which is there for every congress, doesnt change for partisanship, says it will save the economy a trillion dollars. but you wouldnt know that because your a fox news tea klux klanner.
Geithner is still playing the blame game, he wants assistance from the other side after him and the other cronies have made a bigger mess then the one they say they inherited,blame blame blame. If he sounds like the Devil, looks like the Devil and acts like the Devil h,ummmmmmm???
@joshsines how funny I also pray for Paul Ryan, I pray he has to buy his medicare with vouchers that will not buy sufficient Health Care so he can die in his house without health care.
I hope all you unemployed, and soon to be unemployed inbred right wingers remember not one republican voted to extend unemployment comp!
AND, the very first thing they will do if they get the majority is to cut taxes for the wealthy elite. This is where thier hearts are at. How's that trickle down economics working for you? SUCKERS!!!
SUCKERS!!!
The very first thing Boner, Ryan and the rest of the right wing clan will do if they get the majority will be to CUT TAXES FOR THE WEALTHY! Just like Bush did. How's that trickle down economics working for you? Suckers!
@Vetwolf13: perhaps the fact that the richest 5% of Americans pay the majority of the taxes. Just simple math.
Trickle down means that if the rich (who own the businesses we work in, donate to the universities we attend, etc) have more in their pockets, they will give more, spend more and hire more.
It worked before.
Is forced social class leveling by the Government fair in your eyes? It is if you're the one getting the free money.
The very first thing Boner, Ryan and the rest of the right wing clan will do if they get the majority will be to CUT TAXES FOR THE WEALTHY! Just like Bush did. How's that trickle down economics working for you? Suckers!
This guy is exactly what we need in Washington. Geithner is a criminal. Ryan doesn't mince words. Hang in there and fight the good fight congressman Ryan, we need you!
Let's see-Ryan and the rest of his clan fought tooth and nail to deny Americans affordable health care. Then they fought to deny unemployed Americans compensation. But when the wealthiest (who pay the least in taxes) want a tax cut Ryan says "Hey, no problem" The right wing exists to enrich the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. No thanks Ryan, the American middle class has enough of a burden already, America deserves better!
@Vetwolf13 You obviously didn't listen to a word Ryan was saying. Geithner did not answer at all why they wouldn't make a budget. Just kept bringing up bush's deficit that he's making worse, and now he's hiding it by not showing his spending in a budget. You cannot be so naive to have so much trust in these big spending government control advocates.
@ltkhokie1 As far as I'm concerned the banks own both parties and have for a while. What bothers me is the right wings blatant need to give the wealthiest of us tax cuts, knowing full well the rest of us will have to make up the difference. I say tax em more-they can afford it. If they want to live in America they should pay thier fair share!
@Vetwolf13 The 20% wealthiest in America pay about 80% of the taxes in this country. I have no idea where you got the notion that they pay the least amount of taxes in your other post. It's not an opinion, it is a fact. You can look it up if you want.
@Vetwolf13: They didn't DENY affordable health care. They had alternate ideas as to achieve the same goals without having the Government take over the industry. The Democrats in lockstep, disavowed any Republican ideas and input as being "obstructionist" and labeled them unfairly as the "party of no".
The Republicans had only one choice - join the Democratic bandwagon and shut up, or argue in a losing battle.
Is it just me or does Geithner remind you of that weasley attorney guy from Billy Madison!? Geithner was dancing so fast around these questions that he was tripping on his 2 left feet. He's an idiot, and Paul Ryan had him up against the ropes. I wish Ryan would have went for the knockout.
Paul Ryan is a very impressive guy...let's all keep our eyes on him...we need guys like him in Washington. There are lots of good people like him...unfortunately there are a lot more losers...lets vote the losers out!!!
I object to calling Geithner and his bankster buddies, Bernanke and Paulson, etc "stupid" or "assholes"; these are Criminals pure and simple and they all belong in jail, 'though I'd prefer the firing squad for the lot of 'em.
And oh yea - they keep saying Bush spent so much, so they have the FANTASTIC idea to over spend Bush by 4times in the 1st year of what he did in 8 years....
They really do think we are so stupid that we will just not see how insane they really are...
The TAX CHEAT Geithner-The (Mr. oh I'm too high and mighty and Democrat to pay my taxes)... He should be in prison along with the other high and mighty TAX CHEAT Charlie Rangel...
They keep trying to blame Bush, but the Congress & Senate has been controlled by the Demorats for the last over 3 years now...
"3-minutes" anyone with an IQ North of 90 can figure out the math on this. Let's not pretend we can continue to spend like idiots. We must get our fiscal house in order, now. Stop debating who is at fault and just fix it. Maybe if Mr. Geithner had been paying his taxes on a regular basis, the deficit would not be so large....., and he is in charge of the Treasury?
What a dipshit fool this Ass hole Geithner is. How can you justify a budget that seeks to reduce our deficite by increasing our spending ? That is just nonsense no matter what party you belong to. He's obviously cut from the same rug as Gibbs, try to blame everyone else but do nothing to actually face the problem. Here's a simple fix for your simple mind Geithner and all your kind.
It amazes me that they are allowed to get away with that 'we inherited this mess' crap. Who controls spending? Congress! Who controlled Congress from 2006 forward? Democrats! What was the biggest source of spending throughout Bush's terms? Iraq & Afghanistan! Who voted to go to war in Iraq & Afghanistan? A majority of both Republicans and Democrats!
This 'we inherited a problem' nonsense is childish and stupid.
Right on, brainiac. The Republicans held the checkbook from 1994 until 2006 yet Clinton gets all the credit for the 90's and Bush gets all the blame for the last decade. The 90's were fantastic because of the birth of the internet and the baby boomers were at the peak of the earning and spending power. Now the boomers are going on SS. Time to stop spending.
You are right about all the wars having to stop. Innocent people are dying for no good reason. When it comes to the financial crisis, Geithner just keep saying the same thing not wanting to take responsibilty for his actions.
Paul Ryan has more smarts and class than Geithner has.
The jobs that have been created since Obama took office are in govt. Every govt job takes over 10 private sector jobs to pay their salary. It is simple math.. we need private sector and less government. Just basic math tells that story but Obama is an idiot.
There is a simple solution to this budget problem and that is, BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME AND STOP THESE RIDICULOUS WARS. The only reason we are fighting these wars is so corporations can make billions and pay back the bought off representatvie of ours. What ever happened to common sense in this country? Oh, I remember, our representatives are bought and paid for and don't represent us. That's what's wrong. Vote everyone out of office.
Wow, are you a moron. Seriously? You think its that easy? So tell me and everyone else, what happens when the US gets attacked again because we backed out?
I am a moron? Please tell me why we have 703 military bases in 130 countires, why troops are still in Japan and Germany and the Second World War has been over for 65 years, why the US Dollar is now worth 3 cents of what it was in 1913, why the Tea Party is coming in to existence, why Keneddy's seat was lost to an Independent conservative. As to why people from the MidEast hate us is because of our foreign policy, that being we invade an occupy their land. Time to quit sucking up the Kool Aid.
everything you are saying on this board is true...dont forget the corporatism needs to stop and bring back capitalism...i.e. bring the manufacturing/production jobs back home...this is a service based economy now and it doesnt allow sustainable growth
You can't talk out of both sides of your mouth forever....The administration seems to have some magical idea that they can grow the government and reduce the deficit at the same time.......Amazing!!
Paul was outstanding....Geitthner knew that Paul had him back into a corner, so all he could do was play the blame Bush game...which is sounding lamer and lamer every day....

All of you praising him are the marks.

I hope you know Ayn Rand's philosophy is interesting, but hardly applicable in real life.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
it is strange. But Ayn Rand really believes all politicians are like Toohey and Keating.
as for Ryan, he's been going against all the Presidents. he was very vocal against Bush in Bush's increasing the deficit. He's really one of the biggest deficit hawks; that's always been his way, even if his party is sometimes upset by that.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Another Paul Ryan fun fact: He used social security benefits to pay for his education which he is using to try & destroy social security. The more I look at Paul Ryan, the more I see hypocrisy.
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
Is that true? I want to see the link or it didn't happen. How can he even HAVE social security? benefits He's not 60.
He's not trying to destroy social security. he's trying to make it sustainable for future generations, because it's going bankrupt.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
Here's a few things:
Paul Ryan does more to help Medicare than the Obamacare or Obama budget does.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
Really doesn't seem the same.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
3. A lie is a lie. Seems the same to me
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
3. Uh, you haven't shown why it's a lie.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Put this in your youtube search & watch your heroes lie right to your face:
Leading Republicans Agree... Oil Companies Don't Need Taxpayer Handouts
Mephazel 9 months ago
@Mephazel
And by the way, important things you've conveniently left out in that video:
1. When these comments were made. It could have been made in the Clinton years.
2. That a lot of these comments are cut out so they appear biased. They said it might be on the table, not necessarily that it's a necessary cut. I am sure, with the prices we have right now, we might need those subsidies.
musiccritic10 9 months ago
@musiccritic10
Actually that was your hero Paul Ryan last month saying that he agrees that the subsidies need to stop. So which is it. Is Paul Ryan wrong on subsidies? Go ahead & admit that he is wrong. It'll make my day :)
Mephazel 9 months ago

@Mephazel

Vetwolf13 1 year ago
@Vetwolf13 You obviously didn't listen to a word Ryan was saying. Geithner did not answer at all why they wouldn't make a budget. Just kept bringing up bush's deficit that he's making worse, and now he's hiding it by not showing his spending in a budget. You cannot be so naive to have so much trust in these big spending government control advocates.
ltkhokie1 1 year ago
@ltkhokie1 As far as I'm concerned the banks own both parties and have for a while. What bothers me is the right wings blatant need to give the wealthiest of us tax cuts, knowing full well the rest of us will have to make up the difference. I say tax em more-they can afford it. If they want to live in America they should pay thier fair share!
Vetwolf13 1 year ago
@Vetwolf13 The 20% wealthiest in America pay about 80% of the taxes in this country. I have no idea where you got the notion that they pay the least amount of taxes in your other post. It's not an opinion, it is a fact. You can look it up if you want.
psakai09 1 year ago
@Vetwolf13: They didn't DENY affordable health care. They had alternate ideas as to achieve the same goals without having the Government take over the industry. The Democrats in lockstep, disavowed any Republican ideas and input as being "obstructionist" and labeled them unfairly as the "party of no".
The Republicans had only one choice - join the Democratic bandwagon and shut up, or argue in a losing battle.
They chose the high road - good for them!
