Because timing is key, and some of them were off, you don't have to actually be in something, whether its an act for a play, or an army. Timing was off that's that..

how long are the shifts

I believe it's 45 minutes on, 30 minutes in hot or really bad weather, over a 48 hour peorod and rest between shifts is 4 hours. I was Air Force, and have a nephew in the guards, so don't hold me to completely accurate.
