  • Well made video and excellent music, thank you very much.

  • Born in "38' I recogonise Philly as it was then including City Hall on Broad St.

  • Growing up in the 60's alot of the buildings and street lamps were very detailed compared to today, but then, the buildings and street lamps in my time were from back then, most was built by hand, today, just a machine that copies everything.. Its nice to see these old pictures, thanks for posting..

  • amazing photos and music !!

  • Very nice montage. As a person who loves traditional urban design I really appreciate all the shots of sidewalks and storefronts. The musical score was a nice touch too.

  • Thanks awfully, but my hearts broken, i want to go there, loved it!

  • Buddy is accompanied by - in fact the record is credited to - a then struggling bandleader by the name of BENNY GOODMAN. Later in 1934 he would hit on radio and in '35 take the country by storm...

I appreciate these pictures because they don't just show the '30s of memory: New York, the Dustbowl, Appalachia and Hollywood - you see small, busy cities, with businesses looking tidy and proud.

  • I love this . . great job and thanks for the wonderful memories of the 'dirty 30's' . this is a classic, my friend. Thanks!

  • Old Cars & Beautiful Sweet Music Makes roybo1930 Very Happy Indeed!!! This Is My Era. LOVE Your Vedieo. Thank You So Much .

  • I loved to live back then, everything seems so simple and great. I know theres still things like sicknesses and the great depression, but i think theres a better set of values everyone had because they didn't have tons of things to waste time on.

  • Sidescrollin, accidently gave your comment a thumbs down. Sorry. I agree, and I've often longed for the 1800's. But I finally realize I must appreciate what God gave me.

  • This is the kind of music in fallout 3 ! =]

Hey has anyone seen the newest land rover advert, its got this old song playing on it and I think it's from this sort of music era. It goes like this "A-biddle-dee-A-biddle-do-a-bab-bab-bab-bab-biddly-biddly-bo...."(And so on) It goes really fast like that.

Does anyone know the name of the song? I'd REALLY like to find it. Oh, and, great video!

  • in a section from The song "Tiger rag" by The mills brothers.

  • BORN TO LATE , THANKS SO MUCH WONDERFUL

  • What genre of music would you call this? Id love to get my hands on some!

  • I would have to guess he would fall under the heading of 1930's vocalists. Most libraries will have Buddy Clark compilation cd's.

  • i wished i lived in that era,, so beautiful and peaceful, no problems just good times (sighs)

  • Of course, there were such things as polio, the Great Depression... still, it WAS a lot simpler.

  • hell yea it wasnt so simple for blacks either.Jim crow laws etc. Only simplier for "certian" people. But yea i guess it would be nice to live in that time if i knew i WOULD BE TREATED EQUAL. But on a lighter note nice music

  • i wouldve loved to see and lived in the 40's with the mafia, and the 50's for the classic cars. and the 60's to see the jfk+rfk assisnation and for the cars too

  • Of course, that you make you older than ME. You may want to re-think that... lol

  • Gosh I wish I lived in this time period soooo bad.. I just love the music, the clothes everything.. ya know>> lol

  • It would be nice...

  • so your faund of it too huh? lol

  • 1930's a time of depression

  • Ah, the 1930's. What a brilliant time period. Thanks for the video :)

  • Glad you liked it!

  • you want to live in the dirty thirties huh? haha no but i do understand that feeling. things seemed simpler then, but i doubt it'd be any easier.

  • Indeed. No laundry machines or other helpful tools in house-holding and industry yet.

  • JD, Wonderful photos! Thank you. Regards, J.

  • Glad you liked it. Thanks!

  • Everyone knows this period had its real problems. In spite of that knowledge, it still looks like a nice place to visit from todays perspective. Until they invent the real "time machine", your video provides the vehicle for that visit. Very nice pairing of video and audio. Probably the best description is simply "Cool". Thank you.

  • Much obliged!

  • Thanks for the heads up, Buddy was always one of my favorite male singers and thought I had heard all of his works until your posts----kudos

  • I must say the voice on this recording does not sound like Buddy Clark. He was certainly recoginizable on "I've got my fingers crossed". I am more familiar with his efforts on "Linda, Old lamp lighter, and "Dreamers Holiday.

    Great posts and extraordinary photos!

  • Recorded sometime between 1934-1937. The orchestra was Benny Goodman's. He did sing this one more in the style of the late twenties, but his Brooklyn accent comes through when he sings "Woid" for word and "Hoid" for heard.

  • "Brooklyn accent"? Buddy (born Samuel Goldberg) came from Dorchester, MA.

  • Perhaps a Brookline accent... LOL

  • Does "Jack and Marion's" mean anything to you?

  • The legendary restaurant... I believe on Harvard Street?

  • You got it! Now just a memory, like the G+G on Blue Hill Avenue. The old days WERE better. Thanks for helping to keep them in mind.
