  • I'm scared to even press play, I just know this version can't touch the original. I don't want the song to be ruined.

  • Like this band but not very good! And if course Rays version is better HE WROTE THE DAM SONG!!! His version people say??? Lmao jack asses

  • I like Ray LaMontagne and my Dad like Zach Brown band. Now we can meet somewhere in the middle!

  • Ray does a better job.

  • Aww man...nice try I suppose.

  • song murdered

  • garbage.

  • this is the lamest cover i've heard yet of this song. fucking truly disgusting. like salty garbage. way to take a great, soulful song and yank all the emotion and meaning right out of it.

  • try a dolly parsons or emmylou harris version

  • Seriously??? A finger-snapping rhythm to "Jolene"? Obviously, this southerner has never found himself in the same state of mind as Ray was when he wrote this song. Then again, when you've never left Georgia prior to making money, how could you have? Please stick to the chicken-frying and Mama-lovin country songs.

  • @thecompetitivespirit

Rays version sounds like ASS. That dude can sing about as good as I can..

  • @thecompetitivespirit Bitter much?

  • @thecompetitivespirit Now what type of thing is that to say? I'm from the south and I find that quit offensive! I'm not picking a fight, just telling you how your post made me feel. "Chicken-frying" and Mama-lovin" What?!? That part could have easily been left off at the end. Thank you.

  • Some songs shouldn't be covered, and I'd venture to say maybe even some musicians. What isn't debatable is that this song is one of those that shouldn't be. What makes the original so "great" is that its not. It's simple, yet has such an impact on the listener. Listen to Ray cover "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley... thats how you cover a song.

  • @privatehight

atleast you understand that COVERING a song means NOT DOING IT LIKE THE ORIGIONAL...

  • Wow, it's like LaMontagne's version only stripped of the soul and passion he pours into it. The only thing worse than hearing this is getting a phone call that someone died. This sucks.

  • Sorry but they zapped all the longing, soul, and passion out of Ray's brilliant song with this cover. Did they even give credit to him?

  • please dont judge the cover my this horrible audio. they do a fantastic job of this song.

  • being from washington i dont like how they rhyme cocaine with spokane.

  • This was like soo wrote for me :) JK!

  • It's a good attempt by ZBB, but won't be able to come near Ray Lamontagne.

  • Wow. I started covering some ZBB for my acoustic shows. I was thinking.. here's a country guy doing some cool shit. Now I hear him covering an awesome song like this! Kudos!

  • I agree with colehuntmusic..

  • ick. you can't touch ray lamontagne

  • omg they ruined this amazing song

took all the soul out of it to make it a run of mill country song

country music isn't so bad but modern country is void of any soul

  • @lalalita35 This guy is amazing. Listen to the non live version. ITS AWESOME

  • YA'LL are nuts. Zac Brown Band's CD is so damn good. Every song but the last one. Listen to the track and not this live version. It is incredible. They run this song too fast in this video and need to slow it down. yes, it is lyrical and a pretty song, and they should respect is as such, but they do do a good job. check it out. btw Daniel Island 2010 was great!

  • terrible.... i'm a country fan... but this doesn't touch ray...not in a million years.

  • hey, that's my name!

  • I can't believe people actually think this version beats Ray's... ah well, each to their own.

  • Just another great song ruined by f&#%ing country pop bull$#%t.

  • Jack Black is a GREAT singer! who knew?!

  • Sorry but im a massive Ray fan and this doesnt even scratch the surface of Rays performance, no emotion, which is wat this song is all about. To hear Ray sing this live is pure earsex and such an amazing experience ..............

  • gross how dare they touch one of my favorite songs of all time

  • you guys hit the notes but it needs soul man! RAY = SOUL

  • meh rays is so emotional, true art. this sounds like a cover

  • the songs ok, but spokane doesn't rhyme with rain and selling your coat is a death wish in winter.

  • @lovemisplaced that sorta goes with the whole lying in the ditch while drunk and bleeding, recollecting a lost love thing. dontcha' think?

  • I think Zac Brown Band has massive talent for sure. But Ray's original is better because the music matches the lyrics - slow and sad, because this is a sad, sad song.

  • good cover but nothing can ever compare to ray.

  • very true my friend ray is ray period

  • I tried to listen to Ray's song too, just something about the whisper in his voice that keeps me from really getting into the song. NOT saying that it isn't good, it's the original, but I'm really diggin the harmony that ZBB puts into it.

  • Love Ray but this version is better.

  • Hear Ray live and then make up your mind. After it went silent in the crowd, a girl near by let out a little secret that her seat was wet afterward. This is nice, but Ray is Ray. No comparison.

  • colehuntmusic, that is why it is called a "cover" other artist like the song as much as you. they just try to add their style to it. they are not trying to sing it better they just want to add their on little twist their type of artistry.

  • zac brown band added a pop sensibility to this song to make it more catchy and hook driven... but Ray's version is untouchable by ANYONE in my oppinion.

  • @colehuntmusic

agreed, nice cover. Doesn't hold a candle to Lamontagne. He has so much heart expressed through his music I find it hard to enjoy this one. They obviously have good taste in music though.... "a man needs something he can hold on to. A 9 pound hammer or a woman like you". Gotta give them credit for even trying!

  • @colehuntmusic I think he probably changed it up because it sounds damn good and he likes to play it this way. Beyond that, yes, I would say Ray's version is better.

  • I remember when i heard this song by Ray, i was on a very long flight and this song came on and it stuck in my head till i got home later that week. Then i heard Zac's cover and loved it just ask much. It fits their style, they know how to pick a good song.

  • zac's version is great but ray's version from aol sessions sends chills down my spine

  • Most amazing song I have EVER heard.

  • zac brown does it justice, but in MYopinion Ray Lamontagne is the father of this song

  • I really just tried to listen to the Ray Lamontagne version; I honestly DID try. It might be good when chilling, but I can't hear it right now.

  • I have too pulawman! This guy is soulful, and does a great job of putting this song out there....man o man!!

  • Dolly is the Queen of Songwriting!

  • if you are such a DOLLYmaniac, shouldn't you know that Dolly didn't write that song?

  • It's a different song with the same title. This is Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene."

  • good song

  • awesome song.... been listening to this song nonstop lately
