  • First of all, toxicopoo7, thanks for the civility of your comment. Point well taken, as far as the video goes. You see him clear 6.01m in the first image, a still gleeped from some legitimate news source. And next, his exultant pose.....the same. At that point, with the announcement of his feat, all eyes were on him to see if he could do even better on subsequent attempts. That's when I tuned in, and that's what you got.

  • umm...i couldn't help but notice that he did not clear those

  • i was there...great meet..and Hooker did amazing

  • Anybody know why Hooker did not compete in the Millrose Games in NYC a couple of weeks ago? Saw nothing on Google News about what he's up to lately....

  • well put MikeVsonn i think what Luv2pv was referring to was the idea that carbons some how have better recoil for smaller poles but i had heard that that was just because gill had a different way of flex testing them which would make is seem that they were bigger. and what i believe iamapolevaulter is doing is just being and ass

  • @fessorlipinchip0 In all honesty, it doesn't matter if one company is "better" than any other company, or who has a bigger sail piece, or stiffer flex rating. All poles are wrapped a bit differently, even within the same brand. That's why you'll see top vaulters change around poles when they're trying to achieve the highest height. All vaulters are different, and each run is different, and as such, no brand can be said to be superior. It's all about preference. my PR-5.3 meters on a Spirit.

  • I really like steve hooker and admire his underdog appearance, but the debate is: if he in fact DOES tie the world record, is he as great as Bubka with new technology such as the development of the carbon poles?

Would he be able to jump the same height using the UCS poles bubka used?

If he can clear the record as easily as bubka did... then he shall be a gallant legend.

I hope to see him clear it one day. :)

  • There is no fucking debate!!!! Carbon fiber poles SUCK you idiot............

  • hahaha. Do you even pole vault?

  • Yeah you mother fucking dumb piece of shit. I won the fucking arcadia invitational and placed in the Masters meet to make State, unless you're mike woepse, stfu you dumb ass jew bag. Did you train with Anthony curran? NO. did you train with Pat Manson? No. Do you even know who mark johnson is? No. I bet you never even seen his technique. So STFU you know nothing retard. Let's see a video of you vaulting, I'll fuck you till you love me bitch.

  • @luv2pv your a prick... plain and simple

  • @luv2pv also i would like to know what year you won arcadia?

  • LAWL you're stupid you just made another account. Post your videos and we'll see how much you know. then i'll post mine AND my arcadia videos AND me standing next to my poster which even SAYS arcadia invitational.

  • i would love to see those videos

  • @luv2pv lol you definitely have a lot of douchebaggery going on here

  • you mad?

  • Why do Carbons suck? They're lighter and thinner. Spirits are big ass poles man. It's all preference.

  • Bubka chose to jump on UCS poles, yeah they had Carbon poles back when Bubka jumped, he just liked the Spirits better. If Hooker had jumped on Spirits it would be the same result. Renaud Lavillenie jumps on Spirits and he jumped 6.01 as well.

  • no way hooker will touch bubkas record lol that record will be around until the world ends!

  • The first few (still) images are about his clearing 6.01. The video relates to his failed attempts at 6.15. Perhaps the headline should have read: STEVEN SHORT OF SERGEI...... Subhead: But breaks 3 records on his way to three failed attempts at immortality. (Hmmm.)

  • Hey these were his 6.15 attempts not 6.01

  • i was there..i thought he was gunna get that record

  • My guess is a 6.10m best for indoors...Bubka's record safe.

Outdoors, Hooker will chase the record all season but break it at a Golden League meet in Europe.

My prediction: 6.20m (take a look at his OR jumps in Beijing...his hip clearance was amazing)

    Just a hunch...nothing more.

  • Stick is falling past vertical...this is a "good" problem to have especially this early in the season. To me, Petrov / Bubka is the future and standard of pole vault. But I think Hooker will be setting a new PV record in 2009!!

  • oops. We are so non-metric here in the US.....Apologies

  • @Aquamanatee in high school yah but in college some are in meters

  • 6.01m not 6.1

  • ok?

  • Stick is falling past vertical.....
