Most certainly. Im thinking about going into the air force and when I'm retired hopefully being a train conductor wether it be passenger or freight but i would hope that will never happen to me
@fknra Venison is the bomb indeed! I called it a tragedy for people who might be offended by a train smoking a fawn. Too bad circumstances were different... I would have loved to clean it and make a few dozen pounds of sausage. I hear ya, FKNRA. Thanks for watching.
@StrayzKid My cam is a still cam that can't zoom in (or out) on video mode. It was zoomed in when I was shooting. A video cam would have been a better choice, but it was my still cam that caught this incident. Thanks for watching.
I dunno-I missed the "tragedy" here. Deer are like giant rats a lot of places. Not enough natural predators so if the train takes out a few it's no big loss.
Normally, Id come up with some snappy insult, but how can I hate on someone doing something with his kid? No matter what my personal opinion of the "hobby" good on you man.
@mason6511 OK, I don't feed trolls, usually, but if you want to see all the douchebags that go "a-videotapin'" trains, check out all the people I subscribe to. @grizzleybearz282004 The odds are probably pretty high. The fawn was small enough to mostly fit under the snowplow of the locomotive though. If it had been bigger, the results would have been more dramatic, I think. Thanks for watching!

@SittingMooseShaman Good wishful thinking, but I saw the front legs clawing the ground as it tried to stand up, but couldn't. The next day, what you described was true. I was there, and it kind of was as sickening as it sounds. I put "tragedy" in the title for a reason. I wish it had died instantly.
@strangledparrot I had nothing but an almost two year old with me, and it wouldn't have been too responsible of me to take a baby for a walk where passenger trains fly by at 80mph. I wished it died without suffering too.
im really curious at the end of the video you said it was still alive and you phoned the police, do you know what ever happened to the dear? like did the people actually show up to look at it or what ?
@mrchipeater Hey man. The OPP said they would notify CN, and I assume they did. When I went back the next day, the fawn was there but has expired over night. (I didn't have the boy, so I did check it out). It looked as though it had been folded in half (1st train), and had a laceration on the top of its head (from the 2nd train). It was a sorry sight. There are coyotes in the area which probably claimed the fawn later that day, cause it wasn't there two days after the strike. con't...
@mrchipeater The regular people who show up at that spot had seen the video, and had a few questions for me. Neither the police nor CN did any follow up with me as they weren't really bound to, but the fawn didn't look like it was euthanized by either the CN nor the provincial police. As much as it is sad, I do believe the deer suffered and then died of internal bleeding - the very things that should abhor us. This one didn't have a happy ending. Thanks for watching all the same.
This sucks, but at least the engineer tried to get the little thing off the tracks by blowing the horn is short bursts and even slowing a bit. "Course it would take a train like that even at that relatively slow speed over a mile to fully stop, so there was nothing that could be done except hope the fawn would run to the side. The worst thing is that there is a lot of room under a train and it looks like the fawn was only wounded by something hitting it. It probably took a long time to die ;-(
@EeRocKK im a deer hunter, deer have 500 times the hearing ability we do. how far do you think you were? cause i have been in a big field and scared them 150 yards away and i was trying not to make much noise. so...
@EeRocKK The comments were made for your criticisms though! I appreciate all comments! :)
I think it's Murphy's law working against us again. When you want to put a deer in the freezer, they'll hear ya two miles away... Shooting at the deer in the video wouldn't have scared it away and it's around 50 yards away... funny how that works!
@MrDudeer The train was closer and louder. I would have been a squeak compare to the prime movers of the locomotives. When you scare a deer away at 150 yards, I'm guessing you're the only thing capable of making any noise for quite some distance. The only similarity between the scenario you present, and the proposition that I should have yelled at the deer is that there was a deer involved in both scenarios. Try to remember that I was filming the video as well, and knew what was going on.
@pendolinokriscfc CN runs trains 8000-10000 feet long on rare occasions. Those are always great to see, but maybe not so for the poor buggers waiting at level crossings. :)
@robertprocon It was still alive when my son and I left the bridge. I live 5 minutes away, so I phoned the provincial police who said they would notify CN. I checked back the following day, and saw that it didn't make it. The coyotes must have claimed it the day after this video, because it wasn't there for a third day. The first train hit it with the snowplow, but folded the poor thing in two. I hope the CN police were the ones that brought it mercy after I phoned. I really don't know though.
@robertprocon Yeah, despite the fact that I said owned, I'll never unburn that from my mind. The three other deer that I didn't film were far worse though. It's just a bad spot for a deer/train combo because of the curve and the fact the VIAs are going 70-80 mph around it. Most deer scatter when they hear the horn, but if they freeze there, they don't stand a chance. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to happen too often, and I railfan at this bridge quite a bit. Thanks for watching. :)
@RyanMiller3039 Yes, most likely euthanasia by cop. It would have been more humane for the deer. The coyotes got theirs though, so the cycle of life continues. Thanks for watching.
@jsuttonus Well, if you like senseless death, this would be a pretty good area for you. There are tons of deer in the area too, and this is a choke point for all the trains going by. Thanks for watching!
@STFUDouchebags I read your hateful comment about abusing a cat. You make my argument for me. Presenting this tragedy as entertainment fuels people who relish animal abuse. It encourages you and makes you think it is okay because "everyone else' enjoys it. I speak up so your kind knows that is not true.
@STFUDouchebags he *glorified* the death of an animal and attempted to make it entertaining by posting a video of it on YouTube. Could he make the title more enticing? There are Community Guidelines against that for good reason. It excites the sick bastards you refer to and encourages them. And it puts all railfans in a bad light. What would you do if it had been a little kid down there, wring your hands and say "oh my, I would try to save him but that would be trespassing?"
@STFUDouchebags depicting animal abuse is against YouTube community guidelines. there are enough sick fucks out there, especially in Canada, without encouraging more
I've seen a dear nearly got it, but not sure what happened. Dark, in my gparents back yard, hear engine roaring, hear something step in the ballast, saw a shadow, then a train coming. May have escaped. Maybe not.
@niselat Gah! A comment like that from another railfan???? Come on, man! You know that's not animal abuse, you know it's federal trespassing charges if I go on the tracks, and it's probably even worse if I took my one year old baby boy on the tracks with me as well. You know trains cannot stop on a dime, and you should know that I went home and called the provincial police about this. Sorry about the crack smoking comment - I didn't know you were a railfan also... you should know better though.
You could have thrown a rock, yelled, whatever. And what rail fan is afraid to trespass? I practically live in the yards and have even been inside shops and freight houses. I would have been down on those tracks in an instant. I am sure the crews would have appreciated not suffering the trauma of killing those helpless animals.
@niselat Who in the fuck do you think I am, man? That deer was around 50 yards away and I'm on a bridge with rocks the size of pebbles, and I am holding a one year old boy and a camera. The engineer shrugged his shoulders at me as the train went by so no cares there. The engineer hit a deer, not a person, so I don't think counselling is needed. You go ahead and risk federal trespassing - there's zero chances of me taking a baby on the tracks. Which railfans avoid trespassing? All of them.
@EeRocKK let's move on. maybe you could not have done anything about this because of your repressive Canadian laws. But you did not have to post it on YouTube. You did that solely because you thought watching an animal die was entertaining. I know your people don't care about animals but civilized nations do. this has no place here. Real railfans are not afraid to get the good shots no matter where they have to go.
@niselat Sounds good to me. I don't have to post anything on YouTube for that matter; I do have a viewer discretion warning in the title. It's up to you, the viewer to censor yourself if you don't like these sorts of videos. I respect you for not liking animal death. I may have glorified deer death here, but believe me sir, I never want to see another deer get hit for as long as I live. Thanks for watching, and for commenting. I respect all opinions.
@EeRocKK GRAPHIC VIDEO- TRAGEDY, considering some of the YouTube audience, that is like saying "ATTENTION FLIES, LARGE PILE OF SHIT" Look at the asinine comments: "Set a cat on fire and throw it out a window." While I am an avid railfan, I also volunteer at an animal shelter. This crap is not so funny when you see the horrors of abuse firsthand. It is great you are teaching your boy to love trains. Hopefully you will teach him to respect life as well. Thanks for the debate
@niselat Although I can't exactly speak for the YouTube audience whom I've enabled with this video, I promise to teach my boy respect for animals and people alike. Debates are always welcome. Please keep posting videos of that yard... they have some neat things there! Cheers man.
@angelgirl7473 The deer was stupid cause it didn't run to the side, but ran parallel to the tracks in front of the train... ahhh, if only it understood... no matter now! Thanks for watching!
This happens all the time, the animal parts get all tangled up in the traction motors and stink really bad later on. Not a whole lot the drivers can do.
@radix7508 The best thing I saw a driver do was blow the horn very sharply but a short blast (VIA P42DC), then kill the headlights and blow the horn again. The deer scattered immediately without headlights to stare in. Brilliant thinking.
Oh, deer!

@niselat Keep smoking your crack, dude. Thanks for watching.

EeRocKK 3 months ago
You could have thrown a rock, yelled, whatever. And what rail fan is afraid to trespass? I practically live in the yards and have even been inside shops and freight houses. I would have been down on those tracks in an instant. I am sure the crews would have appreciated not suffering the trauma of killing those helpless animals.
niselat 3 months ago
@niselat Who in the fuck do you think I am, man? That deer was around 50 yards away and I'm on a bridge with rocks the size of pebbles, and I am holding a one year old boy and a camera. The engineer shrugged his shoulders at me as the train went by so no cares there. The engineer hit a deer, not a person, so I don't think counselling is needed. You go ahead and risk federal trespassing - there's zero chances of me taking a baby on the tracks. Which railfans avoid trespassing? All of them.
EeRocKK 3 months ago

You should of thrown a rock at the deer u dum di-k. Now the baby deer is dead. ur fault!!!!!!!!!!!
prdawg215 3 months ago
@prdawg215 Maybe if I was an olympic athlete! My best rock throw would have fallen at
least 50 feet short of the deer, and the rocks on the bridge are mere
pebbles. I would have been hard pressed to hit it with a slingshot for that
matter! Don't think that didn't cross my mind...

This happens all the time, the animal parts get all tangled up in the traction motors and stink really bad later on. Not a whole lot the drivers can do.
radix7508 3 months ago
@radix7508 The best thing I saw a driver do was blow the horn very sharply but a short blast (VIA P42DC), then kill the headlights and blow the horn again. The deer scattered immediately without headlights to stare in. Brilliant thinking.
