  • The two most popular ways to catch crappie are with jigs and minnows. The trick with crappie is finding them and putting the bait right next to them because crappie will not venture far from cover to chase anything. They are structure oriented fish and will school-up around whatever structure they can find in the deeper parts of the lake except when they are spawning.

  • i also only fish from the bank because it is just a really large pond not a lake so they dont allow boats and useually when i use minnows i only catch a few big blue gill. is there an effective way of finding the crappie??? i dont really know of any structure there is other than a draining pipe that they could be around do you thing if i try the crappie reef it will work because ive used minnows roadrunners and jigs and they just dont really seem to want it. do u know of any other crappie baits?

  • hello i also live in texas and i was wondering what is the best bait for crappie? ive only fished for crappie a few times like 4 or five. i have used the rosey red minnows because i hearde that was the best bait for crappie. i have never caught any crappie off a minnow and bobber so should i try a bobber and jig or something??? i have caght 1 really nice crappie off a road runner jig but thats it. im just really wanting to tear into somke crappie because i havent fished for the crappie in a whil
