Talk about living beyond your means. How can someone say that's real wealth. When you have a salary of $300 grand and you're paying for a million dollar house? Unfortunately many Americans think the economy will recover and there is no sense of urgency to cut back on their ridiculous spending habits. There is no common sense in these people.
@FireGuyX if you're making 300 grand a year, you don't give a shit. you're living in the best part of the world and likely have multiple homes AND MORE LAND ELSEWHERE.
It looks like you did go by Huntington Harbor (well drove by)? Yeah, I lived there for a while with some friends. They live in their only little world behind those gates.
You should not forget the rich have done very well during the recession. Actually they have done better then ever. There is a new Ferrari maserati dealership opened up right by my place but I cant afford a used car. There is a disconnect in the economy, we are no longer able to climb up on the totem pole.
it looks like there are a few people who like scripted tv shows and scripted commentary like Anderson Cooper....we did this video off the cuff, with just a general idea of what we wanted to talk about. trying to nitpick on what people say with envious comments. those houses behind the wall were gated so I could not tell if they were single story townhouses or single family residences what I'm sure of is that was a million dollar area
I went to realestate dot yahoo and found 993 homes in foreclosure. Prices will go down as soon as the Japanese nuclear waste run off in the Pacific Ocean hits California.
this place is so cal coastline it will always be high cost and attract rich folk it will be last on the list for collapse, people who lose will leave and winners will nab a spot quick until 8.0 or greater rocks us...
my bff is an hb girl,in nursing school and at home with mom and dad, semi retired dad about to retire boeing style gonna retire anytime....house pd off etc. these people are secure and can afford to buy education so kids can get jobs that work....even as kids are gonna be 40 soon...plus businesses are makin some money still things are moving. maybe they are not makin a killing now but if you are a business owner that made it during the bubble and have assets you are not hurting...but suntanning
Inflation is on the rampage. The Fed is going to monetize the whole mess. Unlucky for some they've just sold the only insurance they had...SILVER! Best start renting your a $ $ guys!
The interesting thing about real estate in California is that as much as housing process have plummeted in most areas, the desirable, high end areas held their value pretty well, for now.
I was fortunate enough to get a 5 bedroom in a nice quite area for 50% of the top of the market price because I was patient and didn’t buy into the frenzy.
This place will be a war zone if the shtf.Masses of poor/starving will drag the wealthy from their homes.Glad i Don't live in the shithole state of kalifornistan.
@duckworthy69 why should I care about the poor, I am rich and I have a good lifestyle, I have 8ft steel gates guarding my property and alarm cctv cameras 24 hours. I live far away from black people and poor people,
@Jimmyretired typical rich person response, selfish self serving a-hole.you should care because they are your countrymen and this is your country. If the shtf fan your cameras and 8ft fences wont stop anyone, what a joke.
@Jimmyretired i dont know who you are but if you are a baby boomer you are clearly disconnected from reality. im 22. all of my friends that graduate college are looking for jobs and not finding the. even if you support the cops, most places are laying public servants off and you can bet your bottom dollar that includes cops. its not terrorism. its about basic human instinct and survival. when you get desperate enough and realize you have nothing to lose then you dont care about others.
@Jimmyretired jimmyretarded sure can tell you are from kalifornistan, you are a selfish idiot.I am neither lazy or a youth.Anyone who disagrees with you is a terrorist ,what a fool .
@duckworthy69 poor/starving mexicans and blacks right? Because the last time I watched video of the Rodney King riots, that's what I saw. And last time I checked, I didn't see any white folks causing trouble after Katrina.
@MrTrollYerAss 1st of all who said any thing about race, secondly plenty of white people had run ins with the "law" during katrina.Just because you didnt see it on tv doesnt mean it didnt happen.I have first hand accounts of white people looting etc. you think white people wont loot to eat /drink and survive then you are very misinformed.
@duckworthy69 I said something about race. And if you're going to call California "kaliforniastan". you should at least have the intellectual honesty to acknowledge that things were just fine until millions of Mexicans started flooding in from the south.
@CobraR1993 Mexico lost California (along with Nevada, Utah etc.) in 1848, fair and square. And if they hadn't lost it, it would now be a 3rd world shit hole like Mexico is today.
@TheCaptainSlappy Yea, exactly, the US government falsely teaches everybody that modern civilization started with ancient Greece and ancient Rome which are two civilizations that Egypt gave birth to. Modern education purposely leaves out the ancient world and the African/ Asiatic contributions to Western civilization. Read the book called Serpent In the Sky by John West to look more into this.
@CobraR1993 pull that one out of your ass cobra? the point of the video is definitely NOT race baiting and Rome was definitely not a remnant of Egypt, the bible was.
@HBViking Oh, so other people can denigrate Native Americans, but nobody can talk about Caucasian people? Why did you not defend Native Americans but come to the aid of European culture, VIKING? And the bible was a series of text that came from older cultures, such as the Egyptian Book of the dead. You don't seem to realize that knowledge is accumulated over time and is TRANSFERRED down through the ages into different cultures and expressed in a different way. Just read what Herodotus said.
@HBViking This is YOUR history Viking, this was written by YOUR own people viking: Iceman Inheritance : Prehistoric Sources of Western Man's Racism, Sexism and Aggression by Michael Bradley
When the SHTF, the rich will cry to the poor for a handout because if the rich fail then there will be no money and jobs for the poor.....oh wait, it was called stimulas QE's!!
Hey G4T welcome to Orange County people still have jobs and still have money down here. Come down again and interview me. I'm not surviving, I'm THRIVING :) hehehe
@HBViking I know, I know.. I try not to take comments on Y.T. too seriously. Btw, I'm originally from CT. If you want to see the mega rich go to the Gold Coast of CT. houses there go for 10, 20, 30 Million!!!
@CarlosMendez003 yeas and no carlos... if you live on the peninsula you are jam packed without an oz of front or backyard to stand on... the beach and the waves are crap in Newport compared to Huntington...the only thing is, Huntington has much more tract homes 2 miles from the beach, and newport is strictly coastal...
You nailed it, HB is CEO-ville, just like Lido Isle, Linda Isle, Balboa Island is...they've been the 2nd and 3rd homes for generations of rich in California. Movies are making tons of money these days, and lots of producers live still in Ojai for example. Even freakin' "line producers" way down from the top end, can afford these places. I don't believe that "$2 million dollar" house figure for downtown HB...that's a little high. The video shows houses 4 blocks from the pier, right?
@powergirl901 power girl if you listen carefully I said "across the street from the beach".... There are houses on Pacific Coast Highway facing the ocean and they all are 2mil+...up the block they might be 800K to one mil...and 3 miles in the might be 500K
@HBViking Yes later on you said "across from the beach", but about 4 blocks from there I also heard you say that, meaning across the other side of PCH...those places, and those are freakin' condos there. However, I appreciate taking the tour. It was worth listening to. This video supports what Cgreene34 was saying about how Newport Beach stores and restaurants are also filled to the brim with hungry, spending shoppers during this worst downturn in the economy. You guys do a great service!
@powergirl901 you're right, the guy talking doesn't know anything about the prices of homes in that area. 2 million for a small home, no way. the "townhouses" he's talking about are probably more about 600-800K not a million dollars. People need to stop exaggerating.
@CarlosMendez003 Agreed, I'd say the townhouses with one or two bedrooms would be in the 350-450- range tops. I used to work in Real Estate Sales, for several Title companies too (mainly First American Title in Santa Ana), and for Countrywide before the crash. At Countrywide I checked all the mortgages we did in that area and those were the prices before the bubble...so everyone, don't get too excited that people in HB are realizing 10% equity since then...no way, Jose.
The wealthy aren't clueless about the economic crisis, they are rich for a reason at least the ones that earned that money.
We normal people might be in an economic crisis but not the rich they are still rich and doing well, when inflation hits they'll hurt a little and the normal people will hurt a lot.
@gunloc26 Ok Mr.Proletarian ..Look up the word. ok LOOSER!! I already know you are limited on the English language, even though it's prob the only language you speek!!
I know that times are tough for lots of people, but there are still many, many people doing well. Both my wife and I are in the medical profession and are doing fine. I'm not saying that there may be some tough times ahead, but for now life isn't too bad for us -- house is paid for, minimal debt...
@George4title that was funny when you said "Wow you're speeding down this road," Because I was thinking the same thing right before you said it. I was like man, is the cam making it look like they are driving at warp speed or what!? He had to be doing 60 or 70 on that stretch lol.
SoCal has many sides. OC is well known. Those guys are either surfer dudes (a dying breed) or West Coast shark eaters. The eaters love big trucks and Humvees. HB and NB are known well sites. Of course, the occasional Rodman messes things up, but usually you have the Harley Standard types who go to Cook's Corner on Sunday.
Trabuco Canyon and Modjeska are the subtlies of OC that few talk about, but they're cool. Silverado is there as well.
Uncle Mac announced today, they will hire 50,000 jobs on 19th April, a whopping $8.30 an hour (God you guys are lucky, people in Egypt live on $2.00 a day.
As Prez would zay, "We are on frim exconomic footingz!"
The homes in Huntington Beach and Orange County will sell like crazy!
@solitaryfracture2011 looks, smells and even sounds like a real successful you tube channel 13,000 plus can't be wrong lolz you're a useless pantload :D I'm sorry wifey left you with a bunghole full of crisco maybe tomorrow she will whip out the mega-mandingo strap-on special for you lolz :D
You gotta make at least 20k a month to live in that area. Most young people leave after high school even if they inherit a couple million. they can't afford to start a family there.
Excellent reporting G4T...one thing you left out tho is how many young people live there and hang at that beach area..i guess bunking up like sardines or still at home on daddys dime...surf city usa.
A MILLION BUCK??? ARE YOU SERIOUS? No thanks I think I will stay here in Oklahoma Thank you very much :) Thanks for the videos you always make me laugh :)
The rich are getting richer, plain and simple. I was in Anaheim for a biz meeting and we drove around Huntington Beach. I was struck by how vibrant things looked and how little vacant commercial real estate there was. Driving back to the airport I was talking to my cab driver. He was an awesome guy from Iraq. Was a builder netting $2M/year now driving a cab. Outside of H'beach, its a different story.
I honestly don't know HOW people can afford it. I do quite well and have a prestigous position. There's no way I can afford a 2mil house. Fuck no. Someone's cheating on their taxes or something. It's simply not possible without cheating somehow.
What do you guys think a townhouse is worth? There was a time, there were cultures that gathered materials, and built shelters. Once the work was done they enjoyed the fruits of their labour, no debt. What were those houses worth? Were there bankers? Why not? So many questions.
@marhoekful Structurally, modern homes (modular) are glorified mobile homes because they are not built by men who are highly skilled, and they are not built brick by brick as they use to back early 1900's. As far as how much a modern home is worth in regards to the actual cost, well it's actually a builders secret, but if I had to take a guess, a 3000sf home is worth about 20-30k worth of nails and wood.
@CobraR1993 If we think even more outside of the box, and not cultural conditioning. The true cost of the home you described is nails and wood.....and labour. No gold/dollars were used. Only material and labour. Once the work is complete lets go for a beer. Thats hops and labour. Dollars were not required. It is a system which creates over effort and consumption 10 perhaps 30 times over. Assanine really.
@MrTrollYerAss Working together to achieve common goals is intelligent, wise and conducive to psychological/sociological wellness. A tree is a tree. You call it 100 dollars. An apple grows on a tree, you say 99 cents. If you are happy to work ten times harder than is actually required, and you think handing down all this debt to your children is the way to go. I am not going to argue with you. Giver.
@MrTrollYerAss Take the native american culture for an example. As a group they met their needs. They gathered materials, they put them together, and they enjoyed the fruits of their labours. Not a dollar was necessary. They did not owe anyone but themselves. They "owned" their houses, no debt. The resources of the land belonged to everyone and they were free. No dollars, no gold. They handed down their efforts and knowledge to their children, and the next generation was easier.
@marhoekful Well actually, they DIDN'T hand down their knowledge to the next generation, due to the lack of a written language. They also made next to no technological advancements for 15,000 years, living just above the subsistence level. Most were also (contrary to popular belief) intensely warlike, and would slaughter encroaching tribes.
But if that's how you want to live, there is plenty of open space in Alaska, the Dakotas, and Canada, Etc. where no one will ever bother you. Go for it.
@MrTrollYerAss As I currently domicile in a State that is comprised almost SOLELY of ALL the tribes that got the chance to try out the "Trail of Tears"....I find your government education about "Native Americans" quite amusing. Try talking to an actual Injun.....you might learn something your government forgot to teach you. Most, contrary to popular media and governmental belief, had a fine time co-existing, and when they had a few slow days, whooped the piss outta anyone they could find.
@TheCaptainSlappy lol, Which is it? Did they 'peacefully co-exist', or did they 'whoop the piss outta anyone they could find'? Because it can't really be both.
And I don't know where you've been, but for the past 30 years popular media and government education have been telling the "peacefully co-exist' story.
@MrTrollYerAss I use that culture as an example, They did progress by the way, in hunting techniques, clothing, all sorts of stuff. The concept of completing a task without debt. The concept that materials are mother natures gift, an inheritance. Money is not necessary. You can take that and evolve to a high level of sophistication. Perhaps more rapidly without unneccessary debt. Peace brother.
@MrTrollYerAss The Caucasian race is the most aggressive, warlike race that has ever walked the earth. Ever since Iceage ended, Europeans started war with not only each other (i.e, Vandals, Saxons), but with every other culture they came in contact with. The Caucasian race came into power through war, invasions, pillaging, rape, and looting. As far as technological advancements, with the way the European pollutes the environment, the earth will be lucky to be habitable in the next 3000 years.
@MrTrollYerAss Another aspect about technological advancements of indigenous people is that they did have advanced knowledge, so much so we can't even recreate some of the feats they did today with modern technology. The temples and pyramids in Africa, Machu Picchu in South America, or Angkor Wat in Cambodia all express levels of advanced knowledge. Many of these temples are astronomically aligned as indigenous people knew about stars and celestial bodies long before the European came around.
That's my Stomping grounds

Huntington Beach is a MAJOR stronghold of white supremist's . . . they are noted by the museum of intolerance.
By the way, 'Kevin' will be pretty slacked-jawed as more and more of the over-inflated housing will be worth less and less in the coming months.
Huntington Beach is already experiencing more and more foreclosures and bankruptcies, they just want to keep it quite. :)

Unfortunately many Americans think the economy will recover and there is no sense of urgency to cut back on their ridiculous spending habits. There is no common sense in these people.
FireGuyX 11 months ago
@FireGuyX if you're making 300 grand a year, you don't give a shit. you're living in the best part of the world and likely have multiple homes AND MORE LAND ELSEWHERE.

The interesting thing about real estate in California is that as much as housing process have plummeted in most areas, the desirable, high end areas held their value pretty well, for now.

CarlosMendez003 11 months ago
You nailed it, HB is CEO-ville, just like Lido Isle, Linda Isle, Balboa Island is...they've been the 2nd and 3rd homes for generations of rich in California. Movies are making tons of money these days, and lots of producers live still in Ojai for example. Even freakin' "line producers" way down from the top end, can afford these places. I don't believe that "$2 million dollar" house figure for downtown HB...that's a little high. The video shows houses 4 blocks from the pier, right?
powergirl901 11 months ago
@powergirl901 power girl if you listen carefully I said "across the street from the beach".... There are houses on Pacific Coast Highway facing the ocean and they all are 2mil+...up the block they might be 800K to one mil...and 3 miles in the might be 500K
HBViking 11 months ago
@HBViking Yes later on you said "across from the beach", but about 4 blocks from there I also heard you say that, meaning across the other side of PCH...those places, and those are freakin' condos there. However, I appreciate taking the tour. It was worth listening to. This video supports what Cgreene34 was saying about how Newport Beach stores and restaurants are also filled to the brim with hungry, spending shoppers during this worst downturn in the economy. You guys do a great service!
powergirl901 11 months ago
@powergirl901 you're right, the guy talking doesn't know anything about the prices of homes in that area. 2 million for a small home, no way. the "townhouses" he's talking about are probably more about 600-800K not a million dollars. People need to stop exaggerating.
CarlosMendez003 11 months ago
@CarlosMendez003 Agreed, I'd say the townhouses with one or two bedrooms would be in the 350-450- range tops. I used to work in Real Estate Sales, for several Title companies too (mainly First American Title in Santa Ana), and for Countrywide before the crash. At Countrywide I checked all the mortgages we did in that area and those were the prices before the bubble...so everyone, don't get too excited that people in HB are realizing 10% equity since then...no way, Jose.

George, good buddy,
SoCal has many sides. OC is well known. Those guys are either surfer dudes (a dying breed) or West Coast shark eaters. The eaters love big trucks and Humvees. HB and NB are known well sites. Trabuco Canyon and Modjeska are the subtlies of OC that few talk about, but they're cool. Silverado is there as well.

What do you guys think a townhouse is worth? There was a time, there were cultures that gathered materials, and built shelters. Once the work was done they enjoyed the fruits of their labour, no debt. What were those houses worth? Were there bankers? Why not? So many questions.
marhoekful 11 months ago
@marhoekful Structurally, modern homes (modular) are glorified mobile homes because they are not built by men who are highly skilled, and they are not built brick by brick as they use to back early 1900's. As far as how much a modern home is worth in regards to the actual cost, well it's actually a builders secret, but if I had to take a guess, a 3000sf home is worth about 20-30k worth of nails and wood.
CobraR1993 11 months ago

Giver.
marhoekful 11 months ago
@marhoekful Holy cow! You actually bought, you own bullshit!
Well, I guess you didn't really "buy" it, you "acquired" it for 1/10th the effort.
To Venus and Beyond!!!!
MrTrollYerAss 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss Take the native american culture for an example. As a group they met their needs. They gathered materials, they put them together, and they enjoyed the fruits of their labours. Not a dollar was necessary. They did not owe anyone but themselves. They "owned" their houses, no debt. The resources of the land belonged to everyone and they were free. No dollars, no gold. They handed down their efforts and knowledge to their children, and the next generation was easier.
marhoekful 11 months ago
@marhoekful Well actually, they DIDN'T hand down their knowledge to the next generation, due to the lack of a written language. They also made next to no technological advancements for 15,000 years, living just above the subsistence level. Most were also (contrary to popular belief) intensely warlike, and would slaughter encroaching tribes.
But if that's how you want to live, there is plenty of open space in Alaska, the Dakotas, and Canada, Etc. where no one will ever bother you. Go for it.
MrTrollYerAss 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss As I currently domicile in a State that is comprised almost SOLELY of ALL the tribes that got the chance to try out the "Trail of Tears"....I find your government education about "Native Americans" quite amusing. Try talking to an actual Injun.....you might learn something your government forgot to teach you. Most, contrary to popular media and governmental belief, had a fine time co-existing, and when they had a few slow days, whooped the piss outta anyone they could find.
TheCaptainSlappy 11 months ago
@TheCaptainSlappy lol, Which is it? Did they 'peacefully co-exist', or did they 'whoop the piss outta anyone they could find'? Because it can't really be both.
And I don't know where you've been, but for the past 30 years popular media and government education have been telling the "peacefully co-exist' story.
MrTrollYerAss 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss My last point is capitalism is a total failure. The end.
marhoekful 11 months ago
@marhoekful Lol, 15,000 years at the subsistence level is a failure. But if that's what you want, GO FOR IT!!!
P.S. It's Capitalism that allows you to receive your dole checks from the government. Enjoy.
MrTrollYerAss 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss I use that culture as an example, They did progress by the way, in hunting techniques, clothing, all sorts of stuff. The concept of completing a task without debt. The concept that materials are mother natures gift, an inheritance. Money is not necessary. You can take that and evolve to a high level of sophistication. Perhaps more rapidly without unneccessary debt. Peace brother.
marhoekful 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss The Caucasian race is the most aggressive, warlike race that has ever walked the earth. Ever since Iceage ended, Europeans started war with not only each other (i.e, Vandals, Saxons), but with every other culture they came in contact with. The Caucasian race came into power through war, invasions, pillaging, rape, and looting. As far as technological advancements, with the way the European pollutes the environment, the earth will be lucky to be habitable in the next 3000 years.
CobraR1993 11 months ago
@MrTrollYerAss Another aspect about technological advancements of indigenous people is that they did have advanced knowledge, so much so we can't even recreate some of the feats they did today with modern technology. The temples and pyramids in Africa, Machu Picchu in South America, or Angkor Wat in Cambodia all express levels of advanced knowledge. Many of these temples are astronomically aligned as indigenous people knew about stars and celestial bodies long before the European came around.
