@sharonespares yes, we still do have trains going to Bicol unfortunately theres just a few rides to Bicol and the old trains are still being used.Only the new trains are used for commuter express(commex/filtrack).
Reports vary regarding as to whether the train is still running. I'm heading for Phnom Penh in a couple of weeks and one option is to head up the train line if it's still running. Guess I'll find out when I get there!
It's videos like this that make me *ache* to be back in Asia again! Can't wait to fly out next week :)
I really want to visit Cambodia one day as this country has so many interesting things to experience as a tourist (i.e rural country life, landscapes, etc). This video certaily makes it look more fun and exciting. BTW, is it really true that the train travels at 20 km/hr thru-out the entire trip?
Tell me about it! It seems like this country relies solely on air transportation (look at the airline industry) and pays no heed to other modes of transport. However, I heard that California is getting a high-speed train route (similar to the bullet train) btwn. SF and LA. It's a shame that the States is behind many other countries in rail transit.
I've ridden this train (this year) - your video does the whole feeling of the trip superb credit...thank you...I recall spending the last 3hrs (for the 15hr trip from PP to BB)in absolute darkness after sunset as (no surprise) there are no lights in the cars....The people are great and the stops plenty..so eat and enjoy!! The engine was made in Prague and the Bogies on the carriages are stamped 'Made in Sydney AUSTRAIA! (but when??-ahaha)
Who that guy in the orange? In what he doing there.
