I've been looking for this song for 22 years. Haven't heard it since I saw it on TV. Knock another one off the bucket list. In 1990, I wrote (on paper) a letter requesting the details and surprisingly got a call from a marketing VP telling me he had no clue. Hope that helps.
This video is beautiful. What happened to our country in the last 20 years?....we went from an optimistic, driven, proud people to.....now. I yearn for the sentiment of this film. Much emotional kudos to this; carry on, carry on...
There is a web site called, "Yeah That Commercial" that has, by far, the best copy of this ad I have ever seen. I downloaded it and even in full-screen the video is sharp and the music clear. The name of the commercial is "Heritage" by the way.
The Music was composed By Jim (Bunz) Bredow of ADMusic. This was scored for the super bowl spot specificly. I recorded the Piano Jim and I mixed the Music. A Great memory Thanks "Bunz"
Even at the time, this was so much more than a commercial. I still vividly remember being at a friend's "Superbowl Party" with about 20 other people in various states of intoxication. Even then, everyone was glued to the TV during the commercials which were known for being really over-the-top attempts at humor. When this one came on the room became completely silent and remained that way until it was over. The silence was broken a few seconds after it ended when someone quietly said, "wow"
@nine7one NYG vs Buffalo.... it aired right after a Giants TD. Same thing happened at the SB party I attended. Great memory... thanks for sharing the story.
Oh my God, thank you for finding this commercial and posting it!!
The music and visuals are so simple, but so very emotional at the same time. I've actually gotten choked up watching it. My favorite part is the end, where the image of the runner appears on the building, just like the images of the NFL players, the elite runners, etc.
I always saw that as, "Even if you'll never be famous, you're just as much of a hero as the great athletes that you see on TV....Just Do It."
This is one of the finest short films ever produced... to a large degree due to the legendary anonymous score. Thanks donnation25 - this is remarkable.
Thanks so much for your efforts. I have hunted this commercial for years. It is one of the reasons I started a career in video editing and remains inspiring to this day. A true masterpiece!!!
A thought regarding the music. Since the title of the piece - and any other information about it - remains a mystery, I wonder if the ad agency commissioned someone to write it specifically for this commercial. It fits the 1:30 time frame perfectly and knowing how much is spent on SB commercials it would make sense.
That is entirely possible. The music now seems to be owned by Nike as they have played it in several commercials since then. I will keep looking for it, but so far no luck.
Pre- Is the first ever Nike runner... His coach made nike which means victory and techniclly were saying nike wrong it should be pronounced Nekay ( with Nike spelling of course lol )
This ad came on during super bowl XXV Giants-Bills. I managed to get a copy of the game and to see a commercial so beautifully done from so long ago really stunned me. The other commercials are so filled with early-90s cheesiness, campiness even when not intended. And this was a 90-second masterpiece that tugs at your soul and never feels dated. Thanks for posting it.
I couldn't agree more. I have a copy of the tape. The images are great, but what makes it is the music... even though it's only 90 seconds, it's probably one of the most moving pieces I've ever heard.
I posted this video after months and months of looking for it. The company that made it let me buy the rights to post it so others could see it. They would not (I don't think they knew) the name of the song.
