I love the big body cars. Today I am replaceing my 1989 Ford Crown Victoria(133k miles) with a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis(55k miles). If it wasnt for the rusted out sub frame and all the electrical issues id keep my Vic but Its time to move on.
i love the Grand Marquis. i have a 1994, its a great car but my transmition is a little low on ballz, the only thing i cant do is burn outs unless i brake stand it, but i dont like doing that to my tires or brakes o trnasmition
Damn you Ford/mercury for eliminate the Grand Marquis, all because the stupid crap propaganda of " green " why don't you eliminate the ridiculous Lincoln towncar that's why japanesse, korean, european cars are winning territory here one of the most emblematic of the american muscle sedans are extint. Let's make a class suit against Ford/ mercury to forced them to produce again the not only the Grand Marquis but also the Marauder and Crown victoria. Excelent video you make man Congratulations,
Beautiful car. I have a 2008. It will haul ass and get around 27 mpg. It is one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. And yes, once you've owned one a few years; you just may not want anything else. A Town Car is longer, but no better. It is the same quality as a Grand Marquis. A great seller; they are all over the southeast.
Almost all American big sedans and coupes had bench seas for 6 persons to sit really comfortable in, it is too bad cars like that isn't built anymore as the Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria and Town Car are being phased out, they were the last cars available with bench seats and seating for 6 (adults!)... shame... real shame...
In 1981 I bought my first car, a lite blue metallic 1974 Mercury Marquis Brougham. It had a 460 4V engine with the new Grand Marquis interior. After that I had a white 76, a black 73 2-door with a 429, and a green 73. Changed over to the Cougar and owned a 84 and a 95. Then went to a Focus. Had a 03, a 05 then a 06 with the added Focus body kit. Miss the big block Mercury's! Sorry to hear that Ford decided to drop them! SAD! :(
Debating a late model Grand Marquis versus a Park Avenue Ultra. Any thoughts? Main use is 3 hour highway trips for work. Goals are, in order: good feel and ride, durability/reliability/low maintenane cost, quietness, reasonable price, reasonable power, semi-reasonable mpg. I'd love to hear opinions.
i have a 1988 grand marquis and im never getting rid of that car! seats are more comfortable than any car out there today, the suspension is smooth as hell, the car in general is a great do it yourselfer car, it has enough room to fit 20 dead bodies in the trunk and enough power to tow a yacht....then not to mention its built like a tank...any car newer than 1995 that hits me is totaled and my car will just say who threw that piece of paper at me!? and drive away. lol
@pumpman7777 actually yes!, i'll work on a new video possibly from the very first model when a mercury car had the "Marquis" name on it or perhaps just from 1975 when it became a model of its own. And because now its official that its the end of its production so...
yea you better believe it thats the last of it after this year Mercury's pulling the Marquis off the line because their only focusing on Ford and Lincoln models I loved this make and model its the only new car around with ONLY W/W tires besides I rather own one of the 20 century marquis from the early 80s
The last Mercury Grand Marquis rolled off the production line Tuesday January 4 2011 at Ford Motor Co. assembly plant in St. Thomas, Ontario, marking the official end of another Detroit brand.
Its awesome to see those 70, 80 and 90 Mercs still on the road. Whenever I see one it makes me smile. I cheated and bought a 2005.
Whoever decided at Ford to kill the Grand Marquis/ Crown Vics need to be shot.
The car is the most incredible vehicle I've ever driven, I love the ride, the size and the style. All Ford needs to do is upgrade the engine and tranny and keep this classic American RWD V8 alive!
My father bought one 1994 model 12 years ago, and we have it yet, it´s white ext/ blue int, it has the same rims as yours, what a beatuful car,, congratulations for your video
i have a 96 with a premium stereo, with amp in the trunk. i cant figure out which stereo harness to use to add a new cd player.. the metra 70-5602 has the antennae cable i need, but they keep telling me i need the 70-5601... anyone have expeirence putting an aftermarket cd player in a 96???
These are amazing cars. I have always loved the Grand Marquis. Nothing compares to them, modern cars are all the same, and have no personality. But the Grand Marquis are different. Especially the majestic and elegant boats from the 1970s and 1980s. Mine is from 1984 and I cherish it dearly. So big, graceful, and elegant, yet so big and demanding of respect. Amazing elegant cars. Long live the Grand Marquis!!!
these are the best cars ever im so pissed that 09/2011 they will stop making them forever along with the town car and the crown vic. my dad had a 1991 grand marquis and i hope to buy one some day.
I have a 1994 Grand Marquis, it's awesome. Smooth tide, smooth climate control, nice supple leather bench seats, lots of room and loads of power. I store it in my garage so it stays as nice as it is :)
@mercurygm757 man! you must really like that car even your name reflexes that im 15 and in 6 months i want one. knowadays its the only car along with its rebadged brother the town car wih bench seats and optional cassette player! im an old fasioned teen.
Nice vid. I have a 1998 Grand Marquis. I just bought a 2008 Grand Marquis. I love it. You have to own one to understand it. Its great on gas has balls and looks and drives great. I never had a problem with the old one after 10 years.
Did you know that Clint Eastwood drives a 1989 Grand Marquis as his main car? I myself drive a '90, and I absolutely love it. It has personality, you know? The car is like a living room with couches,. not a plastic transportation pod.
@LordPorcupine cool about clint..i also have a 90 grand marquis,my 90 was the only surviver in a bad garage fire i had 2 years ago..i lost my 65 merc montclair and my 71 marquis ..i did some work to my 90 and 2 years later it is s till on the road and running fine ..in primer now because of the fire and a melted vynal roof , but still on the road and rock solid reliable ....i know how you feel about grand marquis...they really are good cars
that is exactly how i do it when i am driving up to school. i fill up when i leave my home town then fill up when i get to sudbury (4.5 hrs away) when i frist did it i got 19mpg but then changed the fule and air filter and got 23mpg then took some crap out of the trunk (damn big trunks hold everything) and made sure the tires were filled up and got the 25.06mpg. my buddys ricer gets 28mpg and its a 4 cyl and is a lot lighter. you cant beat this car.
I have driven Taxi Cabs like a 1995 with 350,000 miles on it. I recently got a 2003 LS Ultimate with only 57,000 miles. I know I will get many years of use out of it!
I had a 1989 that had 220,00 when I had to get ride of it. that car would frie up in the dead of winter. Miss that old car. Now hears good new I found a late 80's model one with 83,000 miles on it so I am going to try for it as a spare car to just drive daring the wram mouths of thee year. If everything works out ok. Nate
hey did you like the mid sized mercury marquis ??the fox-body marquis they made them from 1983-1986 along with the ford ltd anyways did you like them to ??? personally i loved them and iam looking to buy one right now i just have to find one in good shape
Good, do it. I've owned cooler and more powerful cars but as far as comfort, its unreliable. I own a mint condition 97, owned by a 75 year old family friend, fully loaded with 80k on it most of them by me, never seen winter and its a great car. I also own a restored 87 monte carlo ss and as long as im not racing anything id pick the merc anyday
my monte is really intended to be a drag car though, it has the motor and everything but there are still some pieces of the puzzle to be done, i also have to get a better setup going , play with the gearing and a few minor odds and ends
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Whenever I'm suffering from insomnia, I just look at a picture of a grand marquis and I'm straight off. I cant believe people buy this boring car, its dated handles like crap, doesnt have good performance, gulps fuel... its the worst piece of shit out there. You guys trade your car in for something else.
If Marquis's dont intrest you, i suggest trying out a marauder. That thing hauls ass, im sure my marauder would race whatever you got. Its head and shoulders above my old monte carlo ss.
Bro ive got a 452whp jms tuned lancer evolution x and a 360 whp b7 audi s4 take your pick. Around a track or in a straight line if your close to texas let me know so we can set something up. Im sure the marauder could take the audi but i dont think it will take the evo just ran a 11.6 @ 116 mph
Probably take your audi, maybe. Your lancer will beat me though no doubt. What i was trying to say was you may not like these cars but in honesty there pretty fun. Marauders are sick, and these are the last of the big American v8 rwd vehicles.
Nice video...great music. I'm driving a 96 Merc Gr Marq w/ the performance pkg. It's blk/grey lthr. She has 144,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil. I have used Castrol Synthetic-blend oil in her for several yrs now. I need a new vehicle. This Marq is my 3rd one and it has been difficult to find something else that does what the Marq does.....except for a newer one. I also average 20 mpg city and got 27.4 hwy! Gr Marq are the best kept secret out there! Wonderful cars.
I friend owns an all black 2004 mercury grand marquis and we always race mustangs corvettes and always win. It is stock and hjas front sway bar. SO thats proves how good it is. Great!!! Vid
My 97' Blue Grand Marquis is my baby. Even at 161000 miles it still runs incredibly good, unlike a lot of the cars today. The only problem I had with it was the intake manifold was all plastic so my heat sensor got hot and wouldn't stay in place. It was for the most part easy to fix and luckily we had a broken down crown victoria so we could interchange the plastic intake manifold with the Crown's Metal one.
In the 2009 model year, Mercury still offers a cassette player as an $185 option. Wow, that's ancient thinking. But I guess ancient thinking actually saved Ford. They're the only american car company that actually turned a profit lately. Anyways, I don't even think old people use cassettes, thats how ancient the Grand Marquis is.
Between the headlights and the tail lights, it hasn't really changed since 1992. I do think that the Grand Marquis is soon to be discontinued, if it isn't already. 2009 was the last year for one of these big boys. You can't even buy a Crown Victoria unless you're buying them for the Police Department or for a taxi fleet. Lincoln no longer makes the town car really. Only Rear drive car left made by Ford Motor Co. is the Mustang, which should, no question, stay for a long time to come.
I got a 1997 with 195 000km on it. Very reliable vehicle. Little maintenance and easy to repair and very comfortable too. Ok the gas is not cheap but the car is paid after all.
What very small maintenance I've had to do to my 98 Crown Vic (oil changes, brakes) were done very easily.
My mom has had problem after problem with her 01 Altima which is noisy and rides rough. Even small stuff like brake changes are a hassle best left to mechanics.
As I type this her's is BACK in the shop getting an intake manifold gasket change, brakes (for the third time), oil change, catalytic converter, belts tightened (for the 2nd time), and a badly needed tune up.
I dont get the Grand Marquis... I mean since 98, its just been the car thats a little nicer than a Ford Crown Vic, but not as nice as a Lincoln Town Car. Because there almost the same car.
Pal who cares about NAV bluetooth ESP. Most of these heavy V8 American sedans ride very good and they are not very expensive (New or old except Cadillacs and Lincolns).I wouldn't say the same for small (V4) American cars. My friend got one of these and put 100000 miles without any problem, its still running good.
I lived in US when I was a kid/teenager. I remember those days, there were big American cars around.Leasing was not like it is now so everybody owned their cars and drove to the end.Cheap foreign cars came and tricky leasing system started. Most of my friends were praising Japanese cars. They were dumb to pay lease for cheap foreign cars.Lexus, Acura or Infiniti are good but they are expensive.I used Mazda 626 and I don't even remember how many times we had to get the transmission done.
Very cool video. I just bought a 2009 Grand Marquis LS. I had two 99' Crown Vics before the Grand Marquis. I always loved their style. I love big cars. They are becoming extinct. 2010 Grand Marquis, which are identical to the 09's, are the last year they are going to be made on the large "Panther" style platform.
Thanks for the video.I recently got 1993 LS for $1200 (at 133000 miles) from an old man. I couldn't find any better car for that price. Knock on wood everything is working and car is in good condition. Hate small Japanese or European crappy cars. Wish it could go more than 85 miles but not a problem we don't have Autobahn in America, so it's good enough.
This car is a WWII veteran's wet dream...if they're still capable of that. 1. Tell me...does AARP offer discout incentives fot his car? 2. Are you required to be older than 85 years of age to own one of these things?
I like '78 and '83 the best. Real chrome bumpers back then. Such a big change from '92 - '93! Not many cars have such a long time line that's a little more involved than just a brand name.
My first car that i purchased was a 1982 Merc Grand Marquis (was a family car). Absolutely indestructible and had more room inside than my current German luxo cruiser. Sadly, you can no longer purchase Mercury here in Canada. These cars were the epitome of luxury in their day. No one would ever have considered buying a little boxy BMW or cheap little Japanese car as a luxury auto. How times have changed
Love the video. Glad they stopped the brougham half-cover thing on the top in the 90's, though. Saw a number of those peeling on old Mercs and other cars.
Considering buying a 2008 LS. The thing is absolutely loaded w/ accessories including traction control, ABS, and 4 wheel disc brakes--this rear wheel drive car is safe and a bargain.
I have owned a number of cars but I could not get rid of my first car a 76 Marquis. We had the car for 32 years in our family ( I started driving it was a was 16 in 1982)and it was the only car that killed me when I finally had to let it go. I had many good memories driving that car. One father wouldn't let me take his daughter out in the car because I had it tinted black and it had a huge back seat :-)
Thanks for posing this and letting me relive some good days for a moment
what a classy car

The car is like a living room with couches,. not a plastic transportation pod.

yes indeed. much like its cousin the crown victoria, except the merc is fancier. and im a vic owner myself, and a wannabe grand marquis owner
yamahonkawazuki 2 years ago
@LordPorcupine cool about clint..i also have a 90 grand marquis,my 90 was the only surviver in a bad garage fire i had 2 years ago..i lost my 65 merc montclair and my 71 marquis ..i did some work to my 90 and 2 years later it is s till on the road and running fine ..in primer now because of the fire and a melted vynal roof , but still on the road and rock solid reliable ....i know how you feel about grand marquis...they really are good cars

they are a sweet car. im 18 and i have a 1996 Grand marquis. i love it. i get 25.06 mpg. is that about what everybody else gets?
GMC2500DURAMAX 2 years ago 2
@GMC2500DURAMAX
did u calculate using this method:
Fill the gas to full.
Then set one of your trip a or b to zero.
Next time you pull up to gas station, fill the gas to full, check your trip meter, check how much gallon u used, and divide.
Thanks, I'd like to know if this car actually gets that mileage.
hyperkkt 2 years ago
that is exactly how i do it when i am driving up to school. i fill up when i leave my home town then fill up when i get to sudbury (4.5 hrs away) when i frist did it i got 19mpg but then changed the fule and air filter and got 23mpg then took some crap out of the trunk (damn big trunks hold everything) and made sure the tires were filled up and got the 25.06mpg. my buddys ricer gets 28mpg and its a 4 cyl and is a lot lighter. you cant beat this car.

Whenever I'm suffering from insomnia, I just look at a picture of a grand marquis and I'm straight off. I cant believe people buy this boring car, its dated handles like crap, doesnt have good performance, gulps fuel... its the worst piece of shit out there. You guys trade your car in for something else.
pcasso87 2 years ago
If Marquis's dont intrest you, i suggest trying out a marauder. That thing hauls ass, im sure my marauder would race whatever you got. Its head and shoulders above my old monte carlo ss.
Sharksfan27 2 years ago
Bro ive got a 452whp jms tuned lancer evolution x and a 360 whp b7 audi s4 take your pick. Around a track or in a straight line if your close to texas let me know so we can set something up. Im sure the marauder could take the audi but i dont think it will take the evo just ran a 11.6 @ 116 mph
Best Regards
pcasso87 2 years ago
Probably take your audi, maybe. Your lancer will beat me though no doubt. What i was trying to say was you may not like these cars but in honesty there pretty fun. Marauders are sick, and these are the last of the big American v8 rwd vehicles.
Sharksfan27 2 years ago
Nice video...great music. I'm driving a 96 Merc Gr Marq w/ the performance pkg. It's blk/grey lthr. She has 144,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil. I have used Castrol Synthetic-blend oil in her for several yrs now. I need a new vehicle. This Marq is my 3rd one and it has been difficult to find something else that does what the Marq does.....except for a newer one. I also average 20 mpg city and got 27.4 hwy! Gr Marq are the best kept secret out there! Wonderful cars.

Gunmetal987 2 years ago

JMMoosey 2 years ago
I got a 1997 with 195 000km on it. Very reliable vehicle. Little maintenance and easy to repair and very comfortable too. Ok the gas is not cheap but the car is paid after all.

Oh yea and no clear coat on hers. Gotta wax that sucker down with a buffer every time to preserve the paint.
God I hate foreign cars!

What very small maintenance I've had to do to my 98 Crown Vic (oil changes, brakes) were done very easily.
My mom has had problem after problem with her 01 Altima which is noisy and rides rough. Even small stuff like brake changes are a hassle best left to mechanics.
As I type this her's is BACK in the shop getting an intake manifold gasket change, brakes (for the third time), oil change, catalytic converter, belts tightened (for the 2nd time), and a badly needed tune up.
keyofdavid88 2 years ago
I dont get the Grand Marquis... I mean since 98, its just been the car thats a little nicer than a Ford Crown Vic, but not as nice as a Lincoln Town Car. Because there almost the same car.

Pal who cares about NAV bluetooth ESP. Most of these heavy V8 American sedans ride very good and they are not very expensive (New or old except Cadillacs and Lincolns).I wouldn't say the same for small (V4) American cars. My friend got one of these and put 100000 miles without any problem, its still running good.
elimcc63 2 years ago

2010 Grand Marquis, which are identical to the 09's, are the last year they are going to be made on the large "Panther" style platform.
jlpfinley 2 years ago
no place for this car in 2008-2009 .
no NAV no bluetooth no ESP . . .est.
its just A/C and CD player . and outside temp. lol
