Second, the whole purpose of the celebration, that Bush himself stated clearly, was to signify and celebrate the "end of major combat operations" in IRAQ. Of course, it was not the end of combat in Iraq, but merely the beginning. To most Americans, the mission accomplished banner was a huge failure and embarrassment.
