hi buddy check out the toyota celica gt4 owners club, (gt4oc.net) all they have all the info you need also paid members (costs £20) get discounts at many toyota and gt4 specialists including fensport. over sea members also get a free tee shirt.
@Insomniferum the site just had a change in secretarys for membership if you decide to rejoin. Give G7TOA a PM with you size and address and he'll sort you out.
Beautiful gt-four. God speed on the repair. You can certainly expect the car to put up with the driving you displayed. Nothing out of the ordinary for a 3SGTE.
@Insomniferum I am sorry to hear that. I have three and have been considering selling one lately. I just cannot bring myself to get rid of them. :) Perhaps another is in your future..
My only question is this: Why don't you shift down when stopping from like 140km/h? By putting the gear into neutral and letting the brakes do all the work, 1st you give your brakes a hard time and 2ndly your braking is not as safe as it could be especially in a 4WD car.
@Zilgamor Probably because most people don't give a shit about brake jobs since they are easy, and would rather do 4 brake jobs before doing 1 transmission job. I personally would rather save a little wear and tear and just put it in the brakes. Oh yeah, and because most people have ABS.
What did you expect would happen to you engine while driving like that??? Listen just because you have a wastegate doesn't mean the car can be redlined everytime you take off......
maybe if you wasnt driving like a prick, you never came off boost every single acceleration you hit boost maybe chill out next time and dont smash your own car to bits
@bmxisbest your car isnt exactly "tuned" though is it, as you have a standard block, your valves are standard your cams and pistons are standard so yeah its not exactly tuned is it
@dancinggorilla7 It is tuned, it is mapped, do you know how much the originat thickblock (pre 96) i capable of? I drove 8000km with a car that put out 350hp. But i guess it wasnt tuned!
@24763261 hey any advise I'm having a GT4 3SGT engine installed on my Celica vvti (the 2001) model. I'm having that engine fully tuned to 600bhp and the 4wd out of the doner GT4 car done any advise on the turbo boost? Although Im having all fully forrged pistons ect ect Does the oil go on these engines when there tuned to that extent?
Depends on the turbo you are having fitted to your engine.
As this is going to be a `new` rebuild you will need the supporting engine mods i.e bigger injectors, probably 2 fuel pumps, stand alone progammable ECU and a tons more i can think of.
You will need to run the engine in with NO or little boost for around 50 miles or 100 km on basic mineral engine oil.Change filter and oil again.
Take it to a good engine mapper to make sure your fueling is correct.
@24763261 thanks its on my main page Im trying to create a really cool drift look to it so I've gone two tone kandy apple red paint. I've contacted Adrian but they're a mail order company Im getting mine tuned at AFR PERFORMANCE near Gatwick. I aim to get it to 600bhp but its a daily driver i.e. not a show car or a drag car so I want the set up to reflect that. I love that sound fully tuned cars get when their done right and its a lot more then a simple loud chavy exhaust Im going for
@24763261 and also on another point do GT4 engines require you to warm up the turbo? My friend has a fiat 1.4 but he has to let the turbo warm up for a few minutes before he drives off.... Sorry if I sound like a douch I just havent driven a car turbo'd before my prevouis motor was a lupo so considering Im having a Celica vvti 1.8 litre engine taken out and swapped with a custom gear box and at start a 600bhp engine I know you need to take things into account
@24763261 thanks well Im sure the performance shop boys will tell me all of this when its ready toward the end of October. The GTFOUR engine is being competly rebuilt with performance parts and forged pistons the one thing Im worried about is the ECU and the engine mangement light flicking on and off. I just need to get used driving a car like this this will outdo a Dodge Viper when its built and Im just gagging at that thought lol
"the engine dumped roughly 2 liters of oil trough the hole in the piston and out
trough the dumpvalve..."
Thats not what was happening you're wrong sausage.
It's simply excessive blowby blowing oil into your EGR system. A cracked piston or broken rings do it too. Ask my nana, she drives hard!

You know, my GT4 ST205 did exactly the same thing! Dropped piston 4 under high boost! Very strange...

you use some electronic for the fuel cut defender? in the st 205 when you hit the 1.2 bars the car give the electronic cut for defense the engine

So how do you think a tuned car should be driven?
If the engine is properly tuned it should be OK to drive the car quite active...
No sense in tuning the car if you shouldn't use the accelerator...

1.45 bar on the air to water intercooler was too much.
I suspect your air inlet temps were high leading to detonation...the engine killer !!
I have about same specs GT4 and would never push over 1.2 bar on std internals.
Forged pistons with a FMIC and water injection yes you could get away with it.
Pity because your car was easily over 300 bhp..i would think close to 350 ish maybe little more.
Hope you get her back on the road soon.

@jamesthq
Not sure about your oil question, but if you do make that power output you will need to change the oil around every 3,000 miles or 4,500km at a guess.
i`d recommend a fully synthetic oil of 20w/50w and the best quality you can get.
There is a company here in UK has a very similar car setup and maybe you can get some advise from them.

@jamesthq
Yes you always need to warm up and espiecally cool down high performance turbo engines.
Turbos get extremly hot and when you have used them hard if you just shut off the engine they can literally boil the oil dry and coke the bearing dry.
So always take it easy till the engine warms up and before you turn off the engine.
