It's probably the reflective layer or the polycarbonate. Polycarbonate clouding defects look different so my first guess is reflective material.

For the HD-DVD lovers. Since the problem has been spotted before with dvds I can already guarantee you that HD-DVD won't be free as well.

Even with tight quality control a fuck up can happen.

I love how gaming has become like a religion. One or two consoles are "right" while the others are all going to hell. Are people so biased against a certain console that they have to make up evidence against it? I'm sorry, but I've owned it since launch plus a couple of games and a Blu-ray movie and I have had absolutely no problems.
