If Return of the Living Dead was my first zombie movie, than this was the first horror movie I ever watched. It scared the sh*t out of me, and looking at it today, Im thinking: what the f*ck scared me.
@OpheliaImmortal Actually, I think I got freaked out cause it wasn't a happy ending. I watched this when I was 7 I think, and all the movies I had watched had a good ending. But this one didnt.
@CLewey44 Find the old VHS released in the 80's. I think 20-30 dollars is worth it though. You get both versions of the movie, along with commentary by Jim Danforth and Dennis Muren. Tons of cool features on the second disc also.
@CLewey44 Plus, Criterion restored the film completely, so this is the best transfer of the movie. Another reason to buy. If you have never seen it, rented it off Netflix is another option.
Well here is a man that calls another a faggot, and ends up telling the person in question that he's looking for 'the stupidest music video ever' . First off, I was just listening to a song (no video whatsoever) of an artist I like. The funny thing is, that you're watching the trailer for an extremely old and outdated film with terrible special effects, and cliche's all around. The fact that this is old, doesn't make it good. Typical case of the pot calling the kettle black
@wernsels skrillex sucks ive seen him live in los angeles on a big system too and he just sucks. ask any real dj. i got linked to this from a rock song someone posted this in the comments as a joke lol. then i saw you leaving your skrillex slime here like a slug
@wernsels he also played at petco park and i decided not to go because the venue isnt great and everyone i know that went said it wasnt very good. why do you think he goes around and plays a bunch of all ages shows? hes the justin bieber of dubstep
@wernsels i never said anything about this film so i dont know why you feel the need to tear it down. i dgaf. skrillex isnt an artist really. he is famous. but his shit isnt art. he uses the same synths, drums, and strings in every song. and the same samples. its like he has one folder worth of sounds that came with his software and he has never left that folder. if you really think this pot called you the kettle black maybe its because this pot is shiny stainless steel
Dr. Waterman (you can see his face clearly at 1:14) is none other than Fritz Leiber, Jr., a great American science-fiction and fantasy authors of the 20th century. (Look him up on Wikipedia) Nice touch having him as keeper of the Necronomicon, as Lovecraft was an early influence on Leiber!
I taped this movie off of AMC a few years back, Stan Winston was the host. Despite everything wrong with this movie, I really like it! It's great! I think someone should remake it ( NOT Micheal Bay) Or there should be a prequel. Or a sequel. Anyone?
@Catalyst455931 Possibly. I'm not sure if Cook mentioned him on the audio commentary for the Lion's Gate DVD. They both worked together going back to the late seventies, so he might have assisted. The creature at the end was the only actual stop-motion creation. The other small demons were actors in suits.
the sad part about this trailer is that it does not show the only good part of this movie...the part where the policeman turns into the devil...to this day, thats the part i remember the most about this flick...i was 9 years old at the time, but i remember it like it was yesterday.
I think I saw this on video once a LOOOOONG time ago.... I had to see it b/c of the stop-motion monsters... wasn't even close to Harryhausen's work. disappointing. still cool.
It looks ridiculous now, but I remember this being played on "Creature Double Feature" when I was, like, seven....and it scared the ever-loving shit out of me!!
Man. I saw this movie on TV in the late 1970s on one of those Saturday afternoons and I forgot most of it but the one scene I NEVER for got was at the end when he was hollering for his "cross" and how that woman was coming to the hospital....with a knife.
This movie looks fine, but why the f*&^ would I wanna spend 40$ for the criterion release. I don't think I've spent that much on one single movie, unless you count box sets. Criterion has to re-thing their pricing. I mean they're great quality, but i've gotten some great special editions with huge booklets for under 20$ new;
i know that everyone says that this movie inspired/influenced The Evil Dead or the The Evil Dead ripped it offf but as a huge fan of The Evil Dead trilogy, i've done my research and do believe in the possibility that they're not lying when they said that they had no idea that this movie even existed. Flame me all you want, but that is what i believe. i am insanely curious though about this movie and would like to see it myself.
@TheDeaditeSlayer I think it's different enough that I believe Raimi and Campbell. It's not like the example of The Lion King. I mean, there were other "kids in the woods" movies.
Well, I wouldn't say it's very scarry, certainly not to a grown adult person anyway ( now, little kids might get nigmares from it though ). It's more of a science - fiction / fantasy flick than a horror flick,.. and it's pretty cheap and amaturish, but does have some talented folks involved ( namely effects artist David Allen ). You pretty much have to be a fan of fantasy cinema inparticular to take interest in it.
No the famous stop motion animation director. He worked on Crater Lake Monster, the first Puppet Master, Batteries Not Included and so on. He died in 1999 of cancer.
oh awesome!! thanks for letting me know..ah..im sorry you had me at a disadvantage..the only david allen id ever heard of was the irish comedian..and frank bonner was in that film..he ended up as herb tarlek on WKRP..
scared the pants off me when I saw it on UHF (remember those crazy channels?) late one night in the early seventies. I only half understood it, but I had a hard time sleeping! That looks like one cheep ass B grade psychedelic horror movie, I mean they could only afford that cheep ass 1960ish car thing to run that dude over with. Makes Blaxploitation look like Waterworld
We ran into Bruce Campbell a few years ago and asked him. He blew up on us, stating that Raimi had not seen the film and that it was completely original. I, however, agree with you - too many similarities between the two.
Bruce Campbell denying this didn't inspire The Evil Dead reminds me of the time Disney got sued for The Lion King. The latter was a remake of sorts of Jungle Taitei, known in the US,as Kimba The White Lion. Disney reps claimed they knew nothing of the original and Matthew Broderick thought he was doing a remake when he read for the part. Go fucking figure.
Thank you, you just explained to me why my husand loves this film so much, I've been trying to figure it out for years: He only watches it when he's baked.
I actually went to see this as a (sort of) date at a sleazy run down 42nd street theater. She kids me about it till this day! And this was almost 40 years ago!
that was a classic date cause this was a classic(though cheesy) movie.i saw many movies on sleezy times square strip myself...including DEEP RED and the devil within her and doctor detroit!!!great memories.i have EQUNOX DVD!!!!HOME MADE but great!!
The best line in the whole movie: "What... aaaare you?" I recommend everybody see it. I think 6 people have taken me up on that challenge. 2 thought it was terrible, 4 will cherish it for life. You decide.
Before there was Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead", there was EQUINOX! Yep, this movie also took years to make because of it's budget like E.D. The story was a good idea, I hope this cult classic can be remade. For the fans of this film, there is a special ed. dvd with lots of extras!
You are right about the "R" word (remake) TheForgottenFlesh, it was a hopeful reflex. I forget that most remakes change the the MAGIC FORMULA that made the ORIGINAL film great. Like "War of the Worlds" by Spielberg, Steven wanted to convey his own family problems into the movie, BIG MISTAKE! And he wanted to have the invasion happen in our time, rather than like the book (I enjoy) in the 1800's. For now, I'll watch EQUINOX on dvd, as the cult classic it is. "I want that BOOK!" - said the Fox.
Right. I thought that WOTW remake was absolute trash. Same with that Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Why can't they just leave it alone. I'd rather a long lost sequel or prequel instead of a remake. Someone said they wanted to see the original Godzilla remade. I said "Why so they can put bad CGI, terrible actors and forget the whole message and meaning of the story?" Sorry but i'll take a guy in a suit or stop motion over CGI anyday.
There is a great website called SCI-FI FORUM (.org), I read an article called "Godzilla vs Daikaiju (giant monsters)" from the a Sci-Fi movie thread. It clearly discribed Godzilla's origin, so much so, I would like to see it made as a movie (check it out). Thanx for the movie chat, it was fun.
I just watched this a few months back on TCM Underground and I loved it!!!

I can just see Crow blurting out ,Grandpa?! when that chick finds the skeleton in the cave and then an old man pops up!

Well, it's better than, say, Manos. and the effects are pretty good when you consider it was done as a student project.

Ah, Manos.....hand of FATE..." what a deliciously awful movie! Mystery Science Theare 3000 did a fun job with it!

Thank you, you just explained to me why my husand loves this film so much, I've been trying to figure it out for years: He only watches it when he's baked.

Don't say that R word!
TheForgottenFlesh 3 years ago 2

I highly agree with your words and echo them.

The R word makes me nauseous.
joe6panther6 3 years ago
I mean come on this years remakes include
Friday The 13th
Nightmare On Elm Street (With Billy Bob Thorton as Freddy Kruger)
The Wolf Man (Which actually I'm looking forward too)
I Spit On Your Grave (Like that's going to go over well. It will probably be like half an hour long.)
Last House On The Left (Again, not going to go over well at all)
