  • "hush" power !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

  • Like a rocket!

  • Us Brits used to be quite good at this didn`t we? Once upon a time. I could weep...

  • Love the Vickers,Vulcan,Concorde,and B1 Lancer.

  • Boah man, outstanding!

  • I really like the VC 10. It was an awesome aircraft* The way they flew and the noise they made was awesome. I'll always miss hearing the thunderous roar produced by the powerfull engines.

  • What flight sim is this, it's almost real?

  • It is real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Outstanding!

  • Similar, but not really copies of each other. There are lots of significant differences.

  • er...no!!!....Ilyushin copied the VC10, It was an original design.....Just like Tupolev copied the 757, or Ilyushin copied the 727, then the 747, the concorde, and the Hercules.....

10% of the Russian designs are all copied. The ones that were original Russian designs...never worked and most of the jets crashed and didnt go into commercial service.

  • My Grandad worked on the VC10 when it was first put inot service...he had pictures of all the jets of that time...and guess what...no IL-62!! if you go back to the 50's and 60's and look at the jets of the time...you will see they were American and British...even the Chinese and Japanese failed to build succesful commercial aircraft!!

  • The world's first successful (ie one that didn't encounter catastrophic problems) jetliner was the Tupolev 104. The Il-62 was introduced a few years after the VC10. They look similar, but the philosophy and design are quite different. Russians "imported" the rear-engined design from the French Caravelle (Trident/DC9/727 all have a bit of Caravelle in them as well), and it evolved later into Yak-40, Il-62, Tu-154 etc..

Looks are only one side of things, it's good to know the background as well.

  • The only successful commercial airliner that the Japanese built was the YS-11....

  • @AccessAir And that was hardly successful.. a whole 182 units produced. And a few dozen with that Vietnamese variant.

  • CORRECTION****

Sorry i meant to write "10% of the Russian designs were thier own originals..the rest were copied"

  • Those 4 RR Conway engines make an almost elemental sound; are there any CD's available of high-quality aero engine sounds?

The RAF VC-10 out of Lyneham flies over our house regularly looping round 3 times on slow night-time manouvres :-)

  • I mean Brize Norton, sorry!

  • N. Hayton. Opps forgot that thing called the Harrier Hawker l think. I believe they are trying to reinvent it in USA. See Brooklands Vickers for Protoypes photo images and click.

  • N hayton.

I saw this plane developed at wisley' I lived at the end of the runway its the most developed aircraft of its time and they still fly as militerary aircraft. Boring Boing 707 not a touch, spitfire, concorde and euro fighter could go on. nice artical.

  • I just Love the Sound of Rolls Royce Conway Olympus Engines starting up and Running the VC10 is one of my Favourite Planes as well as the Vulcan

as it has the same and when i was in the army we flew the VC10 quite a Lot boy I wished i had Joined the RAF

  • and they cant afford anything new, ;) which is probably a good thing so we can see more of these.

Do they have a retirement date?

  • Probably another 3 years in service

  • Hello,

At the moment, the support programme is due to end on 2015, fatigue hours permitting.

Quite remarkable, the original OOS date was 1996, then 1999, then 2006. These days the VC10 fleet have an altitude restriction and the hours of flight time are way down.

    As tough as nails!!

  • Excellent quality. Thanks !!!

  • Das waren noch Flieger....

    Klasse Video

  • Nice rich fuelling...Just how a jet should be.

  • Great video! Love the sound of those Conways spooling up for take-off! Lovely music!

  • Well.. one was designed and built by the British, and the other was designed and built by the Russians.

I guess they "look" the same in the way a 707 "looks like" a DC-8, but they are still very different aircraft.

I don't know what else to tell you. If you're interested in a comparison I'm sure there are a few on the web somewhere.

  • Is this plane the same as an Iylusion il-62?

  • No.

  • What are the main differences between the two then? They look exactly the same, or maybe I just need to look closer.

  • the sound and raw of those unhushkitted low bypass turbojet RR Conways is how aviation is ment to sound.

  • No doubt! :-)

  • Im in Recife in brazil right now and when my plane landed (a330) I saw VC10 and next to it a old boeing with jet engines not turbofan...

  • and still the fastest subsonic large passenger plane which is why the RAF keeps them

  • Also the only Aircraft in the world to leave behind it a bigger trail of black smog than a steam train. Classic.

  • Amazing video, I love the VC10, 5*
