The way you speak has very little to do with self-confidence, it has more to do with you're upbringing and the environment you grew up. If you grow up in a predominantly white neighbourhood and hang around white people, you're going to talk like them. If you grow up in an area where everyone speaks in ebonics, you're going to speak ebonics. It has nothing to do with wanting to impress anyone, at least not in this comedian's case.

If you are a black guy and you say a decent funny joke but sound like a white guy you wont get much laughs & if you do only from white folks. Many comedians make a living on their charisma and sometimes these kind of moments distract them from the real joke because the picture in their heads dont seem right. IMO

Actually, white-talking does NOT necessarily mean speaking properly. There is a certain inflection and timbre in the white voice that is different from the Black voice that has absolutely nothing to do with subject-verb agreement. It's just a different accent all together.

Also, I'm sure the "Black-sounding" timbre and such comes out when he converses or moves in certain crowds. I am Jamaican, and sometimes my accent becomes muddled to the point where only my fellow Jamaicans know I'm Jamaican. The interesting thing is if Mr. Walker spoke to me on the phone, I would know he was Black, but many whites wouldn't.

I think this guy is absolutely correct on how black people (ppl) are perceived in the media. He's handsome, young, and talent; not handsome, young, and black. Race shouldn't matter. We should be able to close our eyes and judge ppl by the content of their character. The world isn't there yet but I'm glad ppl like this guy is fighting for the truth and so do I. This guy is pretty talented. I do find the term "white talking" to be pedestrian, but nothing offensive about it. I'm not sure there would be a better term that would work with a broad audience. I mean, it gets the overall point across...and in any artform (and comedy is an artform) the main goal is how communicative one can be. If a word is the best for the overall audience, it's the one that should be used.
