What an idiot !!!Diamond retain their heat? ahahahah stupid idiot !!! the tester tests the level of thermal conductivity and diamonds have a very high level of thermal conductivity that other gems don't have. Don't be an expert on something you don't know nothing about....its just making you look like an idiot.
Diamonds do not keep heat inside , it is the opposite, it is the most conductive material in the would, and the tester send heat on the stone and sense the velocity of the conductible of the heat signal.
hahaha "the heat stays inside the diamonds" wtf? This guy does this for a living and he thinks you use that "apparatus" to check if the diamond is still holding in the heat that it was used to create it? Yet another reason pawn shops cannot be trusted.
Speaking as a chemist his diamond test shtick is rubbish.
Diamonds are tested by light refraction. Nothing else outside of the lab.
( Back at the Lab X-Rays tell all. )
There are devices that can spot the percentage of gold based upon color. If plated, the outer coat will be too high ( virtually 24 ct ) Otherwise, industry standard alloys are to be expected and color match tells all. That, and the weight. Industry norms can be consulted to stop crude fakes.
I never comment on videos, but in this case I had to. Shatros 100%... Diamonds do not retain the heat (or extreame pressure) that created them. They do however 'disperse' (Not 'refract' - a property of light) heat in a rather unique way. I say 'rather' because the gemstone known as Moissanite disperses heat in a simmilar way when cold, thus requireing a separate 'electrical' tester to determine a true diamond. Appologies but this guy hurt my head a little.
His gold testing technique damages the item made out of gold and in so doing reduces it's value, in the case of coins and highly collectable jewelry that can be a huge reduction. Also, diamonds do NOT retain the heat that was involved in their formation. Diamonds, given a few minutes, will change their temperature to whatever the ambian temperature is.
I am an artisan employed by an extremely prestigious maker and retailer of upscale jewelry. Specifically I make gold, platinum and silver jewelry set with diamonds and other gems. I have been doing this for years. This person does NOT know what he is talking about. He has no business educating the public on this topic and it shows that you should beware of anything said by anyone from "expert village."
@studmuffin234able Two things, first, the acid test will cause damage to gold jewelry though if the item is heavily worn that probably does not matter, but if it is a valuable antique item this test will actually reduce the value of the item. Anyone experienced in handling precious metals does not need to perform this test. I can tell you if it is real and the finess just by picking up the piece and looking at it.
@shatros o ok, but i think a lot of pawn shops do that acid test. i was buying some movies at a pawn shop a couple weeks ago and someone brought in some gold and they started scratching it on something like this guy did and the person who the gold belonged to just started yelling "wtf are you doing to my gold" and the lady doing the acid test said that its the only way of telling if it is real or not but i tend to believe you because a lot of people at pawn shops i think are morons
@studmuffin234able Yes the acid test is a common test. That does not mean that it is appropriate much of the time. Besides what I mentioned, every time an acid test is performed on an article of jewelry some of that gold is removed from the item. It may not seem like much but I have seen rings that have been bought and sold repeatedly and had wear marks from repeated acid testing and that means lost gold content.
@studmuffin234able you are correct that many people who work at pawn shops are morons. The acid test is most definitely NOT the only way to tell if it is true gold. There are electronic gold testers for the inexperienced and for thos of us who are experienced we use our hands and eyes.
@studmuffin234able It's one thing if you are selling your grandmother's sold gold brooch because you need the money and don't care about heirlooms. But if you just need to borrow money on that gold brooch you don't want it damaged. The value is not just in the melt value but also all the labor that went into making the item as well as intrinsic value. Often the gold content is but a fraction of the value and in collecting, condition is everything.
@studmuffin234able secondly he states that since diamonds are formed by heat they retain that heat. This is an absurd statement. diamond testers don't measure how much heat is in a diamond, they work by testing the thermal conductivity of the stone. This may seem like splitting hairs but if a person is going to make a video to teach people they should get their facts correct first.
@shatros I find it hard to believe someone who claims to be an expert on youtube and that someone else doesn't know what they are doing without telling what they did wrong. Perhaps you could elaborate.
@olstar18 Point well taken. Since I posted my comment nearly a year ago I had to watch this again to remember. While an acid test will work much of the time, some older jewelry that will test positive as gold is actually heavy plate. Next, this will damage antque jewelry and reduces the weight of the item.
@olstar18 His comment about diamonds is beyond absurd. Besides the fact diamond testers measure heat conductivity not retained heat, diamonds do NOT retain heat from their formation as that is a physical impossiblity. Even if you were to measure retained heat you would use a pyrometer not a diamond tester.
@olstar18 One other point slightly off topic but since he mentioned it, I don't know where this pawn shop is so perhaps things are different there but I have never seen a driver's license or other I.D. with a magnetic strip. We certainly do not have them here in Rhode Island and I have never seen one on a CT, MA or NH driver's license. So unless he does not take items from out of state he would still have to fill out paper work.
this guy is a retard when it comes to diamonds! my family has been in the pawn buisness over 60 years. a diamd doesnt retain heat from a tesatin machine it refracts it back int o the machine and that is hoe it tells whether its a diamond or not.
HAHAHA this guy thinks he knows what hes talking about. Uh yeah the diamond still retains heat from the earth because of the tremendous heat and pressure it takes to make them.... Stick to your game, ripping people off and selling their stuff for 10 times what you paid. PS a diamond tester tests for thermal CONDUCTIVITY. Meaning the stones ability to CONDUCT heat at that very moment, not hold in the earths heat til the end of time.
fuck you little bitch. If you didnt notice the poster of this video is EXPERT VILLAGE. Where supposed EXPERTS in certain fields are paid for their videos. So bitch, I was right and he SHOULD BE an expert if he is going to be posting videos on EXPERT VILLAGE.

I know exactly what Im talking about and pawn shops are filled with low life scum sucking thieves who prey upon peoples money problems. Third and most importantly....... He hasnt a fucking clue what he is talking about, he states that the diamond retains heat from being in the earth. Fuck you
