Thanks so much for posting. This is a great performance of "Didn't We". The only version I've seen that was better came from Liza Minnelli from about the same time.....but YouTube keeps bouncing that video which is a shame because it is a master class of acting and singing. This is also wonderful version, but keep your eye out for the occasional Liza posting because it is spectacular. Thanks again for posting this remarkable performance.
69 and she's STILL here! How many of today's so-called stars will be still doing what they do 20,30 years after their first 'hit'?! Not many I would say! Her place in history is assured!
I heard Barbra Steisand's stunning version of Joni Mitchell's song 'I Don't Know Where I Stand" and she also sang it on this interview it says...is it recored on an 'album' I can buy?
@MrBob1bob1 I am trying to find the quote from Joni... but she said that Barbra's interpretation adds the mystery and confusion that was intended when she wrote the lyrics. It is available on the Stoney End album.
1."I Don't Know Where I Stand" (Joni Mitchell) 2."Hands Off the Man (Flim Flam Man)" (Laura Nyro) 3."If You Could Read My Mind" (Gordon Lightfoot) 4."Just a Little Lovin' (Early In The Mornin')" (Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil) 5."Let Me Go" (Randy Newman) 6."Stoney End" (Laura Nyro) 7."No Easy Way Down" (Carole King, Gerry Goffin) 8."Time and Love" (Laura Nyro) 9."Maybe" (Harry Nilsson) 10."Free the People" (Barbara Keith) 11."I'll Be Home" (Randy Newman)
Nobody today (not even Barbra herself) could deliver a live number just like this. She pulls it altogether in such an amazing package that one would be excused for speculating that she was an alien. How fortunate we are to have this record of her at her zenith.
LOVED this, her singing her interview. The famous should really take a look at her career she stands alone, she give's the fans her Movies and Music but she dose not give her personal life over so easy alot of women should learn from her. There will NEVER be another BARBRA!
This was a year after she filmed "The Owl & The Pussycat" w/George Segal, which I just acquired on DVD, and I thought she was so beautiful and sexy at this time. THE most amazingly talented female star ever!
Wow...I've seen many interviews with Barbra and she rarely if ever talks about Jason or motherhood. This is a rarity. Her reflections on raising a boy are rather revealing as well. From what I've read and watched of her over the years, she has always tried to find that difficult balance in her choice of men. Strong yet not so strong as to be emotionally unavailable.
I think her early 70s look is her best because look at how cool she's dressed in that long chic dress and her long straight silky hair and glowy skin.
Barbra is one of the most sensual and sexy singers! Here she was vocally at her peak and she looked gorgeous here. Her face is so alive going through all the emotions from A to Z all in the space of two or 3 minutes. She seems to feel what she sings. So soulful! Simply AMAZING! No one like her!
There was an old phsycologist who was russian and communist and he believed that families were inherently evil. I can't remember his name but when Barbra said that about parents/child relationships it made me think of him.
And even in the 1972 concert at the Forum where she sang this, she sang it as a ballad, not uptempo. I was there, and it's on the album. You are probably thinking of some other song, albertdiner.
Some history behind this interview...this was within weeks of her divorce from Elliot Gould in 1971. They had nine years together (altho they were seperated the last year and not living together). Imagine what she felt singing this. ( altho rumor is they were both cheating on each other by 11970). I adore Babs and to sing this during an interview is astonishing, such a beautiful performance!!!
She's so sexy. I've always wanted a blowjob from her/ Her lips are so lush and sexy. She looks so yummy and I would love to fuck her the way she looks here
She comes across as so real and honest - all this crap she's had to put up with all her career about her being "difficult" and a bitch etc.. You can see if you have two eyes and two ears what a nice woman she is
"personally, i cant think of a more unscrupulous, self centered and manipulating celebrity than Streisand...that's my opinion!"
...uh...OK..it is your opinion...now back it up with facts. Seriously. Lets see your evidence. I'm sure you wouldn't write that unless you know some damning information, so PLEASE share it with us all.
If you truly CAN'T think of a more 'unscrupulous, self-centered, manipulating celebrity', then that is YOUR failure of imagination, information and intellect, not hers.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have never seen it before, and I have always loved hearing Barbra Singing this song on her "Live Concert At The Forum" album.
Oh I didn't know I had to worry about my grammar on YouTube.I used "your" as "Possessive" , as in "Have you lost YOUR mind". Grammar lesson over thanks! But since you are so intelligent then please post intelligent comments. Your comments show your IQ to be about 12. I'm done and moving on so no need to commet I won't be checking for your silly reply. Yawn!
Yes you will because you are so lonely and bored that you had to insult someone that was just expressing their opinion. Oh, and it's "comment". Bye, Belcher.
Barbra only actually self taught one male singer to ever really sing - and that is David Todd Singleton. Check him out on google. He's something else. Then, checkout his myspace account - he wrote all those songs. She's working with him on a new one not yet released - as he is still 'unsigned'. Can you believe it? Let's get this guy a deal and quick. His "ThunderSounds" piano only CD is really amazing too.
I first saw Barbra Streisand on TV in a summer "filler" variety show (between seasons) in 1964, she was the very young overnight star of a Broadway show (we were told) and when she came out, you could actually hear a distinct murmur of quiet snickers from the audience. And then she opened her mouth.
Studio recordings are almost perfect. This kind of live performance shows the human imperfections and true art. Isn't the OSCAR itself FULL of sculptural defects? Congrats on this human form of art.
Absolutely stunningly gorgeous! When will those 1969-1971 Vegas shows be released on DVD already? What is Barbra waiting for? She knows we will pay dearly for them.

yeah i did - you have to admit your original comment does smack of more than a little sarcasm??
personally, i cant think of a more unscrupulous, self centred and manipulating celebrity than streisand.
she was a legend once, but for me, hollywood made her into the "monster" she is today.
south park got it right!
sorry if my comments offend - thats my opinion!
shuddersfield 3 years ago
Your comments DO offend and the egomaniacs of South Park should watch out because they are already a parody of their parodying selves.
Streisand has TRIED to use her celebrity responsibly. She has delivered many classic performances on record and in movies.
Getting involved in politics, especially during the Bush nightmare is what any responsible citizen should be doing.
She may not be perfect, but she is certainly no monster.
