Had mgt scanned the external environment for the looming energy threat as they should've, they would've seized the opportunity to re-tool for hybrid production, which are in high demand. It follows, therefore, that union workers would not be fearing for their jobs as a result of inefficient/ineffective mgt decisions.

Britains car industry has obviously had it's day (although Britain is 7th in world production) however Britain specialize in other areas like design and aerodynamics. Most British cars made are in either the performance or luxury side. Reliability is also crucial in a successful car industry. Americans are buying more Japanese cars (Toyota for example) than American for this simple reason. This is why the American car industry is dying.
