They say she was arrested because she refused to provide a breath sample – something she strongly denies. Although she was later charged, the police dropped the case against her. Why? Regardless of the arse-covering by the police force involved, Andrews should have faced disciplinary action under the Police (Disciplinary) Regulations. This is not surprising, as I said it's unlikely an officer is ever charged with an offence, regardless of his actions, recent history has shown an officer can even go so far as to kill a member of the public, the killing be caught on camera, the officer identified and still he will walk free.
That the judge has set this man free says little about his guilt and everything about the relationship between the judiciary and the police.
A rather poor straw man argument, no one has claimed he punched her, you may as well state - by way of excuse - that he did not stab her, it would be true but irrelevant.

They say she was arrested because she refused to provide a breath sample – something she strongly denies. Although she was later charged, the police dropped the case against her. Why? Sorry. I can't agree. I'm a retired British police officer. This case left a lot of retired and serving police officers horrified and disgusted by what Andrews did. Regardless of the arse-covering by the police force involved, Andrews should have faced disciplinary action under the Police (Disciplinary) Regulations. I am also surprised the police force involved didn't face action under health and safety legislation.

Sgt Andrews reported that Pamela Somerville had grabbed hold of the door frame of the cell while abusive and intoxicated; on letting go she had fallen to the floor. Mr Justice Bean DECLARED SOMERVILLE WAS DRUNK when she was put in the cells and he believed that Sgt Andrews did NOT throw her to the floor!

Sgt Andrews has already been at home on full pay for some 2½ years and will certainly be awarded considerable compensation in the future or agree a negotiated settlement!

It’s unfortunate Somerville fell and cut her eye but had she been reasonable in attitude (rather than clearly being most obstructive and offensive) with the Police Officer this incident would simply not have occurred. It was quite wrong for an incompetent magistrate to impose a custodial sentence, However, a qualified Judge has overruled by releasing the Police Officer pending appeal. It’s highly probable the appeal will be wholly successful and the Police Officer will be completely reinstated.
