It's moments like these in baseball that make this game so great. These aren't just cheering Trot Nixon the player--it's Trot Nixon the person, what he did for the Boston community, and the effort he put forth on the field. I still remember seeing this on NESN, Trot's smile was perfect and he even tipped his cap to Curt who had stepped off the mound for him in respect, realizing the moment that was about to come when he came up to bat.
Nixon is one of my favorite Sox players, but remember when people were outraged when they let Nixon go and signed Drew? Drew might get injured a lot and might be "heartless" (lol), but he's a better all-around player. Not to mention Nixon hasn't done shit in the last 3 seasons.
I could only imagine the ovation Curt Schilling will recieve the next time he comes to Fenway, for any reason. But most likely, to throw the First Pitch.
Red Sox fans showed a ton of class here. I have the sad distinction of being a Giants fan and when Jeff Kent returned to SF after 6 HOF caliber years, he got booed by many, it was actually the first, though not the last time I was ashamed to be a fan of that team. Red Sox, and just Northeast in general fans have an earned reputation of being tough fans but once someone wins their hearts, it lasts forever. In my eyes, thats the sign of a great fan.
It lasts forever unless they leave to sign with the Yankees then they are traitors and will hear about it everytime they come back to Fenway. Just ask Johnny Damon.
Yeah, Damon is an exception. However, if I remember correctly even he got a pretty nice ovation considering the circumstance in his first game back at Fenway, at least compared to other high profile Yanks. Could be wrong on that though.
yes u are very wrong. he got boooed like crazy. he then tipped his helmet to the fans. everybody else gets a huge ovation. pedro, gabe kapler, dave roberts, kevin millar.
THANK YOU RED SOX NATION FOR SHOWING ohio THAT THEY REMAIN THE ARM PIT OF AMERICA!!!! Cleveland a loser town for 50years. Go Detroit or Go home! Hail to the Victors! "M" Go Blue!!! Love all the new Sox fans in MICHIGAN!!!
Really classy of Red Sox fans to welcome him back like that. Kenny Lofton is a reminder to us of the mid 90s teams here in Cleveland...and he got the same response when he returned.
Hwy, MarronMatt, you're an idiot who obviously knows nothing about baseball. This is about a guy who scratches every ounce of talent he can out of himself, and will run through a wall to do it. You need guys like that to win a championship. Of course, in Cleveland, you obviously know nothing about that....
Our announcers here in Cleveland couldn't say enough good things about the Red Sox fans for all three nights of this. VERY classy; hopefully Trot can be just a fraction as meaningful to us as he was to you guys.
not a hall of famer but his number is gonna b retired by redsox

You are the man for putting this up. I'm out in Cali and missed it. We need JD Drew to start playing the way he can so I can stop wanting Trot back
