After hearing my country was under attack I would probably continue sitting for about 2 seconds, and then think that a classroom is not the most appropriate place for me to be in right now. So, I would calmy get up, apologize to the classroom and the teacher, and walk out back to the motorcade, and start TALKING with the secretary of defense, the cabinet, the administration, etc.

As for your question, I say he could have at least apologized to the class, gotten up and got inside his car. Then he could have spoken with his staff privately, and not just sit there and do nothing.

Hurting the school kids' feelings was not the priority of the moment. Nothing on his mind would have been less served by him getting up and acting decisively. His response was indefensible. He was, simply, a deer in the headlights.
Had he been told, "your wife's had a heart attack and may be dying," "the vice president is on the phone with an urgent question," or, "a small fire has erupted on the other side of this building," Bush would have (rightly) been out of that chair before the sound died. And let us not forget that the 7 wasted minutes might have been enough for the president to issue engagement orders to the airborne fighter aircraft positioned to possibly prevent, say, the third aircaft from hitting the Pentagon.

Maher did a fine job embarrassing himself in this clip. At first he said Bush should be impeached for declaring war, although only Congress can do so and the vote was unanimous on both sides. After the host reminds him of this little detail he changes stance, saying that having the audacity to think about what to do a few minutes after hearing the country is under attack is impeachable. Saying "Impeach Bush" is the shock that gets the viewer's attention, but then he fails to justify his claim.

Why? Its up to Congress to make sure everything is legal. And if it is illegal, like many laws have been in the past, the Supreme Court simply nullifies it, nobody gets impeached for it.

After hearing my country was under attack I would probably continue sitting for about 2 seconds, and then think that a classroom is not the most appropriate place for me to be in right now. So, I would calmy get up, apologize to the classroom and the teacher, and walk out back to the motorcade, and start TALKING with the secretary of defense, the cabinet, the administration, etc.

As for your question, I say he could have at least apologized to the class, gotten up and got inside his car. Then he could have spoken with his staff privately, and not just sit there and do nothing.

Bill Maher is not smart, he is arrogant. By being so smug and full of himself, it creates the false impression that he must know what he's talking about. It works on people uninformed enough to accept a comedian's political commentary as anything but a comedy routine. If you do, the joke's on you.

Any "professional" seeking Maher's opinion is only having him on their program for ratings (meaning it is probably not a very noteworthy program to begin with), as his shamelessly controversial shock-humor tends to generate, the "no publicity is bad publicity" mentality. Shock-humor, by the why, is often utilized as a comedian's last resort for attention when he realizes he has no genuine comedic talent.

Maher did a fine job embarrassing himself in this clip. At first he said Bush should be impeached for declaring war, although only Congress can do so and the vote was unanimous on both sides. After the host reminds him of this little detail he changes stance, saying that having the audacity to think about what to do a few minutes after hearing the country is under attack is impeachable. Saying "Impeach Bush" is the shock that gets the viewer's attention, but then he fails to justify his claim.

So would you defend George Bush's presidency? It's pretty clear looking back at GWB's presidency that the whole thing was a colossal mistake, I mean it was mistake after mistake. George Bush is without a doubt one of the worst president in US history, a lot of people I know are saying that - a lot of conservative people who voted for him too.

First of all, most people who actually KNOW about all of the past presidents consider Jimmy Carter to be the worst in history. Bush was mediocre, but Carter was so horrible that he was among the only presidents to have lost their reelection, by a landslide 49 to 489 electoral votes. Today, Carter contributes to politics by calling anybody who disagrees with obama a racist.
Second, I'm not defending Bush's presidency, I'm just saying Maher failed in his attempt to justify Bush's impeachment.

Maher spends way too much time snorting cocaine off wannabe tv starlets' hips to be taken seriously on politics. He's a coke head with a chip on his left shoulder. Anyone who really follows world politics can spot his act from a thousand miles away. Loved him in Earth Girls are Easy, though, from back in the 80's. An Oscar worthy performance there. I know then that he was meant for great things on the political front. (yep, that's sarcasm)

I didn't blame Bush for sitting in the chair, Presidents are as entitled to be shocked by catastrophes as the rest of us, and I supported the "war" against extremist terrorist groups.
Where Bush lost the plot was when it became clear that someone's head had to be put on a spike to make up for 9/11. They couldn't get Bin Laden so they went after Saddam and they lied every step of the way in order to justify what they were doing.
Bush and Tony Blair should both have been prosecuted.

Why? Its up to Congress to make sure everything is legal. And if it is illegal, like many laws have been in the past, the Supreme Court simply nullifies it, nobody gets impeached for it.
How long did he sit there for? 2 minutes? 5 minutes? The President obviously didn't want to cause a panic, and frankly there was nothing he could have done in that 2 minute period. The FAA and NORAD already had control of everything. It did not make a difference because it was just unfolding at the time.

There were also thousands of planes in the air at the time. They WERE downing every plane, but it takes hours to get all those planes on the ground.
NORAD was created for the purpose of monitoring Soviet missiles from outside, not planes within US airspace.

And why does everyone assume just because Bush tried not to panic, and CREATE a panic, that the military and many others behind the scenes, working the front lines were not already springing into action? I respect Bill Maher for not being blind like most people of this world. Im glad he his getting word out to people like this. Religilous was amazing, and he did a great job at portraying religion and its defects.
And yes, the commander in chief should be quick to react in times of attack and emergencies. I think that if he did not react almost instantly, within at least 30 seconds with at least an IDEA of what to do, that is impeachable. We need leaders who have intellect and quick reaction.
