  • the engine on the 2010-present Toyota Prius

    Engine

    Toyota Hybrid System

    Gasoline engine:

    1.8 L 2ZR-FXE I4 Dual VVT-i (Atkinson cycle)

    Power: 98 hp (73 kW; 99 PS) @ 5200 rpm

    Torque: 105 lb·ft (142 N·m) 105 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm

Hybrid system total: 134 hp (100 kW; 136 PS)

  • I came to watch a Prius get wrecked

  • it looks way better than the old one. the old one would crumple up like tin foil on impact

  • I like the new prius. But its not worth buying at the moment, its gutless, especially on hills

  • @petershen99 I'm not being a 'douche' at any level, displaying my personal opinion is more like it. Oh and I still have the feeling that it is a rather ugly car :)

  • @JaffaJamz Best selling caR IN JAPAN (OOPs hit caps lock) month after month since its launch - so I guess they must love it - looks wise what is your favorite car??, mine is the 1969 Dodge Charger, but I think this Prius is fine, the early 2001 model Prius looked like a Japanese vacuum cleaner! :-)

  • @petershen99 Higher mileage doesnt mean less gas consumption, it just means that the vehicle is more aerodynamic OR burns fuel more efficiently.

  • @Aragon159 higher mileage means more Miles Per Gallon, aerodynamic is air stream efficiency and burning more efficiently is less grams of CO2 per 100klm or 60miles.

  • Lets see it roll down a mountain.

  • Its commonly mistaken that driving a prius will save you money by not using up much gas. Wrong, the Prius just emits less polution, but averages worse than many other cars when it comes to the price at the pumps. So you're using up more money to buy gas for this piece of shit, so in turn, you are actually damaging the planet by demanding moe fossel fuels. To hell with the Prius, just have better catalytic converters.

  • @Aragon159 ... What? The Prius emits 3.8 tons of CO2 per 15,000 miles driven. A subcompact car from Ford, such as the new fuel-efficient Fiesta releases 5.7 tons of CO2 after 15,000 miles. A 2010 F150 releases 11.6 tons. The Prius does save gas, giving out a 50 MPG. A F150 gets 16. This being said, a Prius will cost you $816 annually at 15,000 miles. The F150, $2550. A $21K MSRP F150 will cost more after a year than a $22K MSRP 2010 Prius.

  • @Aragon159 Ok you may think that the prius is there to save the world and if you think so you're those douche smug prius pussies. It's was and still is an economical FAMILY car for long range and producing less CO2 than a normal family 5 seater hatchback. And remember what you said, ''So you're using up more money to buy gas for this piece of shit, so in turn, you are actually damaging the planet by demanding more fossel fuels.''It's all about range and saving money and reducing CO2. Get a grip

  • @Aragon159 You mean the less gas it uses, the more it costs to run? My Prius is the best thing I've ever owned - terrific. What do you drive :-))

  • @ChuffChuffWoo mercedes c and m class

  • @Aragon159 Nice cars :)

  • @ChuffChuffWoo haha thanks, wbu?

  • @Aragon159 An early 2001 Prius The saloon, not the MK2 hatchback that everyone recognizes, or sometimes my lodgers 2010 Prius, though he's just replaced it with an identical car as he had a 60mph head on with a lorry, and as the seven airbags saved his life, he felt he had to have another. Lovely car (not as good as the Marina tho! ;-))

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Dont get me wrong, i love toyotas, we had a 1996 camry for 12 years before upgraded to our Mercs. Its just that i dont like the fact that people think that if they drive a prius they use less gas. Thats just wrong, it just emit less pollution.

  • @Aragon159 Depends where you live, I commute to work over hills, so in a traditional car you have to use the brakes a lot, then the engine has to drag the car up the next hill, before wearing the brakes down the other side of the next hill again - this is expensive on brakes, fuel, the Prius has been terrifically successful as a hilly area commuter, beating the usual 'economy cars' -something that matters in 'Rip off Britain' where gas is $10 a gallon and rising. Prius - right tool for the job.

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Ok i dont want to sound snobbish, but i live in the upper class suburbs of sydney, Australia. But im American, living over here... kinda sucks, i miss Cali. any way, the Mercs are perfect for our relitively flat area. Theres the odd hill now and then but they are very low. So i guess, different people need different cars for their own different life style

  • @Aragon159 Funny that, my brother lives in Forrestville, and is saving up for an Ozzy built hybrid Camry after his Passat ate its way through four sets of brake disks during it's ten year life, he uses the brakes a lot, a Prius/Camry will save him a fortune :)

  • such an ugly car.. the designer must have have been drunk whilst drawing the car haha!

  • @JaffaJamz Not funny. The Japanese drawn the prius like that because they like the style and if you want to see ugly go and see the Citroen ami 6, and thats an ugly car.

  • @JaffaJamz

    Ugly!!! I love it!

  • @JaffaJamz Actually I like it - but it looks its best in silver or grey, in grey it looks 'stealth bomber ish' - mean as well as green!

  • Respond to this video... Actually I don't think they do a green one ...!

  • BREAKS!!!!

  • @JENSDONT It's called a crash test douche bag.

  • @toyotaprius79 Off course I know that, retard. (It was a joke)

Have you ever watched the news??

Than you should know that Toyota's have had many troubles with the breaks...

  • @JENSDONT brakes were fine - the change in feel between regen braking and abs braking was different and when the car changed between the two on hitting a pothole/patch of ice, the sudden change in feel was spooking the drivers - easily fixed with a small bit of computer code uploaded to the cars when they went in for regular servicing. Prius did not use the same accellerator as the Toyotas that were running away.

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Thanks for the information, that was interesting. But still, Toyota should have known there were production problems before they putted it on the road, don't you think so?

  • @JENSDONT Alas the test drivers and development engineers didn't see it as a problem, nor did the customers - then a bankrupt guy tried to make a claim against Toyota by pretending his Prius (the previous model at that) wouldn't stop and crashing it in to a police car, that and the throttle issues was enough to start a mass hysteria - so the 'dual feel brakes' had to go, there is a 'braking efficiency gauge' as part of the head up display that tells you that you are braking optimally anyway.

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Yeah, that police chase was a big show... I know that. I'm from Belgium and even I saw it on the news!! I also know that Toyota's are (normally) very reliable cars. But the Prius wasn't the only car from that factory that had to go back to a garage... Why would that be?

  • @JENSDONT The accelerator linkage on some of the other Toyota cars had a problem, as it happens, car recalls are much more common then people realize, alas Toyota have done a lot of damage to GM by being so far ahead of the curve, so they became a target for a hostile American press.

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Yes, you're right. Toyota was a victim of GM. (Probably also because of the financial crisis...) I know that a lot of cars from other (European or American) companies like VW, Audi, Mercedes, Chevrolet,... already had to send cars back to the factory because of engine problems. These problems are much more common than people might think. The press shows almost every technical problem of cars in the newspapers... And these messages are almost every month in the newspapers.

  • @JENSDONT Like a friend of mine who had his car suddenly go full lock on the steering as speed - woke up in his up side down car, worse, some Boeing airlines had the same problem(unexplained sudden full rudder) - with loss of life - since sorted out with a recall...!

  • @ChuffChuffWoo OMG, even airplanes!! I wouldn't want to sit in that plane...

But still, I believe there also are factory's that are doing very great (quality, reliability etc.) like BMW and even... Dacia and Skoda (believe it or not).

  • @JENSDONT Toyota too! But alas Toyota Recalls are big news now that they are the worlds biggest car maker. BMW have messed up, and will do again - as will Toyota! All car makers mess up from time to time - stuff happens!

  • Respond to this video... PS planes involved in the 'recalls' include Boeing 737 (sudden un-commanded full application of rudder) 747 (same problem but with elevators) Concorde (to add fuel tank protection) DC10 (to fix the cargo doors blowing off, causing structural damage causing the planes to crash) and so it goes on - even the Space shuttle needed a redesign (Challenger crash in 1985)

  • @ChuffChuffWoo First of all, It's true that every car maker could have a bad period, and now that's very normal because of the financial crisis and the production of modern cars are very fast and efficient these days, so they could forget something in the productionline. BUT planes and Space shuttles have to be made very carefully! I understand that these objects must be very hard to make. But still I hope these problems won't happen every day. They have to test a lot of parts in a plane!!

  • Poor Prius... :'(

  • sucks.

  • @songer885 What sucks you must have a fucking reason.

  • @toyotaprius79 the whole fucking ''hybrid, come on buy this car, were gunna save the world'' thing! and its slow as heck, even my grandma can walk faster. it wont make a difference on global warming bullshit and stuff like that. stop trying to defend one of the most crappiest cars on the planet. and dont even try to compare it to any other car because this car is low!

  • @songer885 I'm not that saving the world shite type of person. The prius is not a fast car because it's a fucking family car, not a super car. And the previous prius was really slow because it had troubles overtaking the new one is fine with it. So don't fucking say ''the prius is blocking the roads and the slowest cars evar made and its Japanese so its crap because its a prius.'' Just don't.

  • @toyotaprius79 When did I say its crap because its Japanese? This car is just horrible! You can't admit it! The prius is a Hybrid, so if you're defending it, you can't say your not a ''saving the world shite type of person'' because thats what this car is, a ''saving the world shite type of car''! I'd rather buy one of them Morris Marina's. Much better than this piece of junk.

  • You'll die in your Morris in a 25mph crash. Prius is the future, alas people living in the past just don't get it and never will.

  • @ChuffChuffWoo I'm happy to die in a 1MPH crash in a Morris, as long as I don't drive one of these. What's so special about this car? Tell me.

  • @songer885 Alas I've seen the light - Morris Marina is tops, Toyota should abandon the Prius and start making those instead - everyone on here google 'Morris Marina' and see what you've been missing!!! Prius just cant compete with the Marina's brilliance ;-))

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Toyota would ruin the Marina if they tried to make it. They can't even make a proper car.

  • @songer885 Nor could Morris!

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Morris is a hundred times better than Toyota, don't try to change my mind.

  • @songer885 Well actually they did make a rather fine little car called the Moggy Minor. Alas I think most people would go for the Prius

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Well of course people will go for the Prius these days, they're stupid!

  • @songer885 PS - They should put a Marina against the Prius in the show rooms - guess the Marina would out dazzle the Toyota - end of Toyota...! :-))

  • @ChuffChuffWoo Toyota never made any good cars.

  • @songer885 Well they never made any like the Marina - what a terrible shame! ;-))

  • Nice to know there is one less prius in the world.

  • @cutiger3115 backwoodsman?

  • @Sertsch No I just think they look ugly.

  • @cutiger3115 Whats your fave car for looks?? mine is the 1969 Dodge Charger

  • @cutiger3115 Alas Toyota cant make them fast enough - since typing this message, Toyota factories world wide have probably made 17 more hybrids - very popular car.

  • We bought one (2010) a few days ago. Best car ever! It's a bit technical, but I'm sure we'll get used to it. And I believe the Prius got a 4 or 5 star crash rating.. if I'm not mistaken.

  • u bitches will be dead helll no

  • Why right hand drive?? There is no such car in Europe!

  • @Beatles5 what about the uk and cyprus

  • People seem to foget that the Japanese also drive on the Right hand side so does australia and I think sweden? makes sense to me why they chose the Right hand drive toyota. Dont forget that toyota probably gave that particular company a right hand drive to start with..all results are the same in a crash test regardless.

  • is the 2008 model Prius a good car? i've heard so much about all of these toyota recalls and im not sure if that car was too. I really want a prius someone help

  • @JessicaA39

Prius is a safe car. There were recalls, but media kindly mixed them together.

japan bashing after the stumble of the big three.

One recall was affecting loose floormats, because ppl use cheap & loose floormats that can block your pedals.

the other recal was about sticking gas pedals, but the prius was not affected.

Furthermore the 2010 Prius got a ABS update so it feels more like a regular car.

And not to forget the bankrupt guy who tried to fake the whole thing.

  • Says nothing. This is a RHD (Right Handed Drive) car! Most of the world drives LEFT. Previous tests have showen dramaticaly diferences between RHD and LHD vehicels.

Shit NCAP should test BOTH. Fuck UK. Drives on the wrong side, is not even in the EU and than the EURO NCAP is testing a car that is sold OUTSIDE the EU.

I see, I am the only one who realised that...

  • I don't want to be anal at all, but how likely is it that someone lost control of a Prius and slid sideways at 29 km/h into a pole?

I'm not expert, but I don't think that anyone travelling at that sort of speed is going to be going sideways...

  • @gogmorgoaway maybe you slide at higher speed but when sliding you lose speed so you hit the pole at 29...

  • Cars should hold up like in "Need for Speed: Underground II."

  • toyota sucks.. Subaru rules!!!!

  • You know that Toyota AND Subaru are from Japan Right? And why does Toyota suck?

  • @rottugangur toyota and subaru are the same thing

  • cool front design, copied fords kinetic design but il let toyota off as ford are ahead of toyota and the honda insight copied toyota prius which is dumb cos honda could not give a fu*k about their cars now,

  • @jaffacake1578 ya and the original back part was the Aztec's

man is any one creative anymore

  • i have one and i think it is awesome and safe!!!

avg of 50 MPG for reals!

  • @awesomeness2571 well, VW L1 beats your prius because it gets 175-180MPG. lol

  • well... the car's not even out yet so what..

this is the best car for now...

  • @awesomeness2571

so dose your boy friend ride with you or are you a hippie because the only people who buy priuses are queers and hippies oh and saftey? i know for a fact if i get into a crash against a prius in my blazer the prius drivers dead ill probably be fine if you want fuel effeciancy buy a vw gulf

  • WOW! Your doing your part for the environment. LMFAO!!!

  • wow !

    hybrid and safe !

  • AS much as I hate to admit it, it did really good! if it had a little larger crumple zone it would've been even better.

  • The best car company in the world, can only makes the best cars in the world!!Toyota is years ahead than other brands (including german) in terms of safety (like innumerable standards airbags and devices) or technology (the futuristic Hybrid Sinergy Drive,

beyond comparison with every existing mass production engine);not to say,but actually Audi A3 has only 4 stars euroncap.."Audi".If Toyota is the best,it's merit on its ongoing commitment to improve herself."Kaizen" is important,Japanese know..

  • @3312cdfp5674

at autobahn speed your simply fucked you crash any car into some sort of soloid mass at 100+ youre fucked but about german cars being safer than jap cars i agree

  • @ Davidingunipd: your Toyota advertising campaign failed misearbly. Toyota make good cars but to claim that all their cars are better than all other cars is just a sign of complete ignorance.

  • @Davidingunipd Here here! Toyota is tops - GM is dead

  • @Davidingunipd, My old M3 is a damn side safer than that, it is totally restored after being crashed. The old owner said that he had no worries about his 2 year old daughter in the back. She was uninjured, and the man only had a few broozes in his legs.

  • awh, im getting one!

  • super car, love toyota.:)

  • greatest car, 100% safety, toyota's da best

  • @UNBOXINGCAR

and its got not the highest notes, you r wrong.

  • @UNBOXINGCAR Not true, watch Camry Vs Yaris crash test. It'll amaze you.

  • first in comment

Toyota Prius is the best! only neck protection could be a few better
