An industrial plant, once the height of glamour, nowadays a mechanical space, harsh and cold. In this degenerated and godforsaken world Moloch, a wayward machine which awakes from lethargy every now and again to stir up the worst human instincts is in power...
I kinda got from this that as technology advances so do human conflicts. Just look at the arms race for space endeavours, the big wars or even smaller races like the game (console) market. Then technology (or the race for it) may stop but it all will happen again... As soon as technology makes another step.
YES! Moloch. Moloch it is. Wery few of the modern generation has the insight of modern sociaty. very few sees the rising moloch. Only thoose who feel the waight of this Sfinx of concrete and electricity do. I first heard about the moloch when i readt HOWL by allen ginsberg. it has sins been a major inspiration of my own artistic work. Great vid. really felt the chills through my spine. The sad thing is only that this is no Sci-fi but social realism
war is a very old ancient thing the mechanism and machinery of which is beyond even our grasp to understand for we are but pawns and not the maker or the keeper of the machine. it is a machine because it carries out action methodically without volition or reflection. war is a big oppressive dirty prison of humanity but also look at the players in the film...they when released by the machine kill and nothing else except for one that stands and takes notice...then the wheels of war stop.
moloch is the god wich the canaanites or the phoinicians sacrificed thier children for before the abrahamics religions....is this clip introducing the god moloch or what??
moloch is a semitic god i think he apeared in the land of canaan in the levant......moloch is an aramic name wich means king(molek or melek in hebrew languege and malek in arabic).....also baal was a semitic god i think they recognize him as the sun god but they are all false gods because most of the ancient middle eastern gods are demons like hours and many other gods in the middle east and some european empires like rome.....
perhaps this introduces us the society we are living in and the states....the lights are the ideas and inventions that most of the times are used for bad purposes.....and when te states decide to stop cofliction / societies doesnt have harmony and comprihension...the people (workong classes) are those who pay....even with their lives....

I thought that I read "Mr. T" on the face of the blinking guage, so I watched it again. I was wrong, nothing about Mr. T there.
However, I did notice that the group slaughtering each other seemed to resemble the Predator, without the alien dread-locks. Perhaps these are terminal cancer patients from the Predator's home planet, and lack of universal health care or primary physicians has resorted to euthanization by brain-washing death machine.
@kat284noel: I guess (and some comments below lead same direction) that this was inspired by Polish postapocaliptic paper and pencil rpg game called neuroshima. in neuroshima Moloch is something like skynet, or system in matrix, but more similar to the later, lesslike a swarm (skynet), more like organism of mold, not similar to any humanlike lifeform. hive mind with motivations out of human understanding. in Polish word moloch descrices someting huge, powerfull and overburdened with own size.
Moloch was a cannanite God who came to represent greed to many cultures. I think this video is supposed to represent mankinds war in the name of greed, which is represented by a mechanical Moloch which periodically makes it's lust for blood known.
Platige blueprint ... smelled by long :) Great work, artistically and philosophical too. From time to time the "war machine" starts from itself and needs it's share ... after that it stops like nothing was ... but ... it will start again ... the pulsing light at the end tells you that. Keep up the good work. And by the way ... greetings from Romania Tomek ... I'm one of your fans :)
Not Really. Doesnt matter that it is 3D art or not. There is some great work here. I help teach a 3D art class at ASU and I can tell you getting texture and shader detail that looks this nice is a rarity indeed. Most people dont even consider using lights in this dramatic a way. Its great work, but just cause it's 3D art definitely doesn't make it easier.
I understand where you are coming from, but from one artist to another, I can tell you from experience that if you know what you are doing, simply pointing and clicking in a light will not give you results that you need. A lot goes into lighting 3D scenes. Yes you can put in lights and it gives you instant lighting, but tweaking light so that it looks accurate and conveys the appropriate mood is not an easy task.
There is a reason why there are specific jobs in the business for just 3D lighting and rendering. I will agree with you that there are more instant benefits to doing it in 3D, but the bottom line is, what does the final image say? That same question applies to 2D as well as 3D. I feel stupid because I dont want a flame war over whats better, 2D or 3D. I love both. I respect both. Neither is better than the other, they are just different disciplines.
Whenever Moloch needs a next sacrifice, war begins. Moloch is worshiped by significant number of very powerful men, significant enough to create wars and military conflicts. Sad picture, but excellently done. 5+

I know that Moloch is a name of some god or it can be translated from ancient Hebrew -The King-. Could you be so kind and explain the title, if you are acquainted with its background and the connection with this animation?
Moloch was a demon/deity who was bad enough to get himself specifically mentioned by God in the Torah [Old Testament] he required the sacrifice of mostly children and people used to build these huge hollow metal images of him - he was an owl/or bull sitting with a big fire inside his belly and his arms outstretched and in October [mostly] people used to sacrifice even new born babies which they laid across his red hot outstretched arms. Bonfire comes from Moloch's Bone Fires.
@tomek77tk "Moloch can be the title for a few reasons. Historically it's a term used for a god or a sacrifice associated with fire. In modern terms a moloch is usually a derivative reference to any person or thing which demands or requires a major sacrifice. I think he used it having the modern use in mind.
Tomek, I see that you have a few short films from Platige Image. Do you know where I can find "The Kinematograph" to watch?
I come from Polish RPG "Neuroshima" where Moloch is "nickname" giant dengerous offensive rebellious post-apocalyptic electronic-scrap machine-factory which possesses north of U.S after nuclear holocaust made by itself...
In modern English usage, "Moloch" can refer derivatively to any person or thing which demands or requires costly sacrifices. watch the video and you'll get what sacrfices.
@SlaughteredKid I think that this movie is connected with polish post-apocalyptic RPG - Neuroshima. Moloch is a country of machines that makes mutants to slaves human race. This scene could be a "beta-test" of new part of mutants.
"Moloch" in polish can means "something big" (for example about city, or building) and its negative word.
@SlaughteredKid I guess (and some comments below lead same direction) that this was inspired by Polish postapocaliptic paper and pencil rpg game called neuroshima. in neuroshima Moloch is something like skynet, or system in matrix, but more similar to the later, lesslike a swarm (skynet), more like organism of mold, not similar to any humanlike lifeform. hive mind with motivations out of human understanding. in Polish word moloch descrices someting huge, powerfull and overburdened with own size.
