  • Eye!

  • EYE!!

  • All those who love the CBS logo say eye!

  • @Netstryke Eye!

  • Amazing the transformation of the CBS logo, one of the best logo's today,

  • The first one obviously was from "The Ed Sullivan Show" (then known as "Toast Of The Town"). C.B.S. also had a piano note that was heard prior to the beginning of the first prime time show that would air.

  • the original CBS logo was the letters C-B-S in a spotlight, obviously, after a while, they knew that logo wasn't gonna fly,so in 1951 they came up with the "unblinking eye"!

  • I well remember the camera-iris animated logo (at :18) n the early 1960s. I was very mystified by it, being only about 8 years old.

  • @hebneh

The camera iris logo was used until they came out with the animated color presentation logo in about 1965.

  • I agree with Dr. Stanton on the pre-eye logo for CBS. He said no style, and I agree.

  • what is the title of the theme being used in CBS? (Used to accompany the announcer) I remember it was also used in DZAQ (the predecessor of ABS CBN) in the philippines

  • did it have the CBS eye of doom from 1965 until 1970. CBS celebrating its 80th anniversary. december 12,2008.

  • I don't know about the CBS Eye Of Doom.

  • What the hell was that from 0:20 onward?

  • inspiration!!

  • Im Brazil tv bandeirantes use the eye of cbs logo

  • Exactly. But is an oval eye.

The original eye from TV Bandeirantes was however circular.

  • Ahhhhhhhh...Tiffany.

  • For some reason, CBS used the "In Color" ident on their shows during the 1997-98 TV season, do you know anything about that, eyeontv?

  • The phrase "CBS brings you the following program 'In Color'" refered to "The Carol Burnett Show Reunion" and the "Ed Sullivan Special" in tribute to Elvis Presley. That may become of some help in your answer to the question. The latter had been a prelude to the CBS Special Presentation clip -- in Avant Garde form -- in that same season.

  • One show that consistently used it was the Bill Cosby-hosted "Kids Say The Darndest Things".

  • Very good added information, thanks!

  • is this vhs casste?

  • The CBS "spotlight" logo was used from 1948 through the summer of '51. In September 1951, the "eye" logo {designed for the network by William Golden} was introduced. It was usually seen "live", via a slide with clouds surrounding the "eye", and an announcer promoting another show {"'THE RED SKELTON SHOW' is next, on the CBS Television Network"} or straight identification {"This is.."}. A filmed version [:18/:25] was also used, and tacked into 16mm "delayed broadcast" prints through the '60s.

  • The first logo was seen at the end of one of Ed Sullivan's "TOAST OF THE TOWN" broadcasts, circa 1949-'50 (his theme is heard under the logo). The "live" I.D. billboarding "PECK'S BAD GIRL" [a very short-lived comedy starring Patty McCormack] is from the spring of 1959. The Jack Benny promo/I.D. aired earlier on the day that episode with Julie London first aired- March 4, 1962. The CBS color "bumper", with Hal Simms announcing, is from 1965-'66; later versions featured Bob Hite as announcer.

  • "Peck's Bad Girl" is noteworthy in that it was scored by Jerry Goldsmith (when he was still under contract to C.B.S.).

  • I'd like to see some from the late '60s and into the '70s if you have them.

  • Very interesting and great fun to watch! Cheers for posting it!

  • Hard to believe the eye has been CBS' logo for fifty years!

  • thank you soooo much!!!

  • NICE JOB!!

  • Where did you find these logos?

  • They were actually on the air as part of the CBS 75th Anniversary.

  • Wow, that kid on "Peck's Bad Girl" is HUGE! :D

  • That kid happens to be Patty McCormack, the star of "The Bad Seed", a 1956 film.

  • Revision: Wow, Patty McCormack, the star of "The Bad Seed" and "Peck's Bad Girl" is HUGE! :D

  • She was huge in another way when Ms. McCormack was on "The Ropers" in the late 1970's.She was Goeffery Tambor's wife.

  • Columbia Broadcasting System? I thought it stood for Central Broadcasting Station.
