  • That thing is CLEAN!

  • Did you install the 04 P71 airbox and MAF?

  • or its not a real "p71" ..i know i was wrong i bet in the 2 month's that have past since i have left this "wrong" post i have learned most can wish for,,,,

  • The police PCMs have the rev limit raised slightly because they come with a higher stall torque converter (11.25). Whereas the stock ones come with a 12 inch torque converter. The 12 inch is limited to 5400 rpm by the factory since that is their safe limit. The police PCMs also have very slightly raised shift pressures for firmer shifts and different shift points along with a higher speed limiter besides different rear gears. other then that the cars are the same ,,p71 has to be in the vin

  • That engine bay is clean for that year of a 2001 CVPI great job

  • mybad it 215 not 260 ,,i thought the p71 had pi heads oooops

  • mybad its 225 hp

  • this is not p71 if you are putting out 215 ??? my 00 grand marquis puts out 200 with my single exhaust 215 with duel exhaust and its non-pi ,,,you have a vin w not a vin 71 ,,,,is your 8th vin number w ???? i think the p71 puts out like 260 stock,,,

  • @CREAMFILLEDANISH85 You fail. The 8th digit is not your indicator. No the P71 does not put out 260 stock. The P71 has a higher idle, more agressive shifts, dual exhaust, and lower rear end. That's it. No more. No less. Unless you consider a few extra fluid coolers a performance mod.

  • If your crown Vics vin # DOES NOT CONTAIN P71 It does not have the police options in it

  • Can you guys help me. I want to buy a crown vic. But i want to know what is the difference in p71 and regular crown vic. I know p71 are more powerful. But are they more powerful by electronic wise or mechanic wise. And also how are they different from Grand Marquis (performance wise)

  • The Police Interceptor has more heavy duty stuff under the hood. Also has dual exhaust and the regular vic has single. The transmission is built for more heavy duty, the cooling system on all your fluids is heavy duty, and the suspension is different but better too. I got a book from Ford in my car that comes with it. its the Fleet book and the owners manual.

  • @brandonya1990 what does it mean to have a heavy duty transmission? like can you shift from R to D without a thought of coming to a complete stop or something?

  • Well Im not sure about that one. but i know that its timed to shift at a different time and can tolerate more abuse. Like certain cruisers have to chase vehicles down, they have to go hard on the car. The transmission is built to withstand the abuse and it also has an aluminum driveshaft rather than a steel one. I have the books in my car that explains about it.

  • pretty

  • I picked up a 99 P71 with 168k miles. She stills purrs with all original equipment. And because she is a 99, she has got Posi and 3.55 gears! She may not have the 250 horses that an 07 does, but her 215 can keep up for a while with that rear-end!

  • How much did you pay for it?

  • I paid $2,000 for her. She was a sheriffs cruisers. If you have the ability to, look at sheriff/detective cars, as they are not driven 24/7 like the city cars are. (although, the city cars are likely to have had the engine replaced, but are also likely to have been driven harder).

  • how do you kno if its a detective/sheriff car or a city car cuz i got one but i dont think it was a city cruiser

  • Mine was easy,

It said Lincoln County Sheriff on the side where an emblem had been removed (you could still see the adhesive).

Also, most metro cars start out either white, black or blue. While most county/detective cars are brown, green or burgundy. But this is only a rule of thumb.

  • so how come it doesnt say police interceptor on the back of mine but in the vin number it does

  • Have you got black interceptor rims with the plastic chrome lug covers, or standard silver alloy wheels?

If you answer is alloys, then you have an undercover interceptor. Those are pretty sought after.

Another way to tell is, do you have the push bumper, or the punch outs indicating that one was mounted?

The undercover cars look civilian, but have all the P71 goodies tucked under the hood.

  • mine looks like a reg stock crown vic but it says interceptor in the vin number so i guess mines undercover

  • yeah. 215 to the crank... about 180 at the wheels. real impressive. you could have either trak loc or an open diff. the axle code will tell you. and watch out for that intake manifold. mine just cracked this past week.

  • those 4.6 engines are great! That car will run forever if you take care of it

  • They still have posi and 3.55 gears as optional equipment.

  • @meestabeck your mom has a nice rear end

  • @jayguy173 Can't argue with that!

  • @meestabeck

So all 99+ have the posi rear end?

  • Looks like you found a good, clean engine there. I was lucky enough to snag an '03 with only 66,000 miles on it for about $6k with tax and license. It's a little creaky but the engine still has some sound to it.

  • i know a mechanic who maintains the police cars according to him the 92 to present vics are far more reliable and have a better service record than the 79-91 generation

  • would you not expect that or something?

  • Most ford cars made in the 80s were compleate trash I.E. alot of people complained about the VV carb my brother has an 85 buick lesabre and it still runs strong, not to mention my 97 vic engine blew because of the plastic intake.
