Beautiful M3! I'm wondering what kind of problems have you ran into so far? I'm looking into picking one of these up or an E39 M5, although I know it will probably be a risk for both. I might play it safe and go with an IS350 instead but deep down I have a thing for these ///M cars lool
@xX1AzNYoungstaXx Thanks a lot youngsta. The only issue I ran into was with an alternator, and a water pump. That's expected though on high mileage cars. I also love IS's but I wouldn't trade my M3 for anything. Good luck with the car search.
@Torn80cj Thanks Torn, I really do need to track it at least once. I just love it too much to put that kind of wear and tear on it, especially since its my daily driver.
I have owned my M3 for the past 3 months, im 18, live in cali, 2 tickets, on parents insurance i pay 660$ every 6 months. Just throwing my 2 cents in :) Gorgeous car btw!! i have to say tho, 3rd gear getting on the highway is by FAR my favorite aspect of these M's! going from a 325i to a M3 ... OH DAYM!!!! M power!
@dustyice Oh yeah, 3rd gear is amazing in these cars. I made a short video the other day I am thinking of posting going from 70-100mph in about 5 seconds in 3rd gear. That's up there with some really high dollar sports car times. My insurance is cheaper than that, I guess it has to do with age b/c my driving record sucks.
@dustyice that's cheap insurance! Canada fucking sucks. With 8 years of driving experience it would cost me around $3000 a year for M3 insurance. I pay $2600 a year for a vw jetta.
@dustyice 18 and already with an m3, wish my parents where that rich. lol at 3:05 would have been pretty funny to see some kid run up and jack your camera lol. Its a dream to have an M for me but just can't afford it yet, still sporting my tuned 330ci. Will be getting the Technique tuning Stage 2 turbo kit soon, 450hp to the crank here i come
@bstarx Not at the moment, at the time of the video it had DINAN stage II software. I am about to get a custom tune in the next months so I cleared off the DINAN software.
@twerkmilkchoclat If you stay away from steelerships and stick with the good, reputable, indy euro shops you will save a lot right off the bat. If you aren't afraid of grease and are willing to take the time you can find DIY maintenance threads all over the place. I try to follow the thread found at m3forums.net. I tried to calculate a dollar amount with no luck just because different mileage requires a vastly different regiment.
@Steeevsy Yeah man, you're right, I am in Charlotte. Some of this video was taken off Harris Blvd near UNC Charlotte, some on I-85, and the end was in Charleston, SC near my parents old house.
@WhrsTheMoneyLabowski That's cool. I was born in Charleston and very nice car by the way. I made a mistake of getting a 2002 330xi 5-speed. I definitely wish I would have gone for the M-status.
The sound is actually pretty good. I have the Harmon Kardon system which gives good range and suits most needs. It's not quite the two 12 Kicker Solos I used to have, but it does the job. I haven't heard other non Kardon systems so no judgment there. The only issue, and is seems to be a common one, is that the speakers create a lot of door vibration which can be really loud and annoying, especially in high treble rock. I compensate, however, by turning it up loud enough to drown it out haha.
I was Interested to discover @ 3:50 in the video your car has 92.5k miles on it. She Looks in really excellent condition and well maintained! Great example for judging a car on condition rather than number of miles which is often overlooked. I'm going to visit hopefully a well maintained but 90k mile example this weekend. Have you ever had any SMG problems? That's the only thing that slightly worries me at 100k + mileage. Keep Up The Good Work ! Very Tidy Car
Yeah, I was a little sketched out about the mileage when I first went to look at the car, but when I saw the condition, the maintenance history, and test drove it I never thought about the mileage again. I have never had any problems with the SMG at all. The technicians at the local dealership said they haven't seen many problems with them, and most transmission issues they see are from sticks. There aren't a ton of these cars with over 100k miles on them, however, so time will tell.
Thanks for The Honest Reply. Nice To Hear a genuine answer on youtube from an actual owner. Today I went to test drive a 2005 Steel Grey / Imola Red Interior Manual with 75k. It was really nice, decent spec including bluetooth phone setup, sunroof and Harmon Kardon System. But it just didn't feel like the right car. Tomorrow I will test a black 2004 SMG with 90k miles, Also mega spec with 19" CSL rims. Really Hope it's good !
I love the SMG. Try to take as much time as possible to really get the feel of it when you take the test drive. You will be more apt to pick it up quickly knowing how to drive stick already, but some people just miss the clutch too much. I on the other hand don't. Once you go into S6 mode with traction control off and feel the shifts from first to second and second to third at 8k rpm and the flawless rev matching on upshifts you will be in love.
Why you making me feel like I'm driving mine.....yet?LOL I'll be posting vids when I get mine. You did this real good by bringing music ever now and again so we could hear them pipes. 7 x NICE= !%$(@@.

@BoiiJoe My car has a little over 100k miles. 12 k seems really low. I haven't checked the blue book value for a while but I would probably be wary of an M3 for 12k. If the car is legit is seems like a deal.
So, the SMG in the US have launch control on them, it's just hidden very well.. do you know how to use it? It's something crazy like turn off esc, hit power button, slap your wife..... What's the sequence to use it??
@Owebaby11...haha. It's not quite as complicated as that. You just turn off traction control, hold the console shifter all the way forward, push down the gas pedal slowly (I have heard that stomping on the gas will make it go into burn out mode), the RPMs will stay at just a couple of thousand, I think at about two to three thousand, and then you release the shifter and burn rubber. I wasn't using launch control in this video btw.
I have Tein S-Tech springs. They lower it 1.52" in the front and 1.26" in the rear. It doesn't matter how big the wheels are the diameter from tire edge to tire edge will be the same, so you would be fine with less than an inch but you probably won't notice much of a difference.
i ususally hear a raspy sounding with the other e46 m3 engines. did u install headers in yours cause ur engine sounds good compared to others ive heard
Awesome car. I have an 03 SMG same color. In the beginning of the vid when you use the launch control it looks like you hold the right paddle? maybe i'm mistaken. Just wondering if there is a way to use LC besides the gear selector? Great vid!
Thanks Bonkder. I was actually not using launch control, but rather just flooring it. I'm not holding down the paddle, but I do have my fingers on it just preparing for the quick first shift. Other than using the gear selector there is no way to use launch control that I am aware of.
alright thanks for clearing that up. These cars have so many options and little secrets I just wanted to check. Another question for you. Whats your top speed so far? Ive hit 170mph. I thought they were supposed to be limited to 155?? Maybe I have software that I dont know about?? what do you think?
I have gotten up to 165 and it was still creeping up before I had to let off. I have heard that there is a speed limiter, but I have DINAN software so it removed it. I think other softwares like Shark injectors and DA remove it as well. If you don't have software I'm not sure why yours wouldn't be limited.
Stealership maintenance is the only downside of owning a BMW...if you are the type that likes to get under the car and do it themselves there is really not a downside to owning an M3...other than premium gas prices.
I have never actually pressed both paddle shifters at the same time while in gear...i think it might just kind of cancel each other out and shift up and down quickly or visa-versa.
There is a gear selector/shifter in the center console that depicts whether you are in reverse (up and to the left), neutral (down and to the left), or drive (down and to the right). Also you can reset the SMG transmission if you get over a certain speed, put it in neutral, and the hold both paddles.
What headers are you running on yours? I'm looking into some in the next few months for mine, along with a euro-style midpipe section with high-flow cats. Mine's a 2003, titanium silver one with 6-speed manual.
The headers I am running are the ebay supersprint stepped header replicas. I got mine for VERY cheep (like $150) and have had no problems with them at all. A little bit of a tight fit on the install, but otherwise a great choice for an even better price.
The only issues I have with the SMG is the way it sometimes acts on cold starts...but then again I have not driven a 6 speed so I am not sure if it acts similarly. Basically it just feels a little jumpy and tight on colder days until you drive it a few miles or give it a chance to warm up and then it goes back to normal perfection. I am not sure if it is due to a cold engine (and thus a little bogged down) causing it, or if it takes a little while for the electro-hydraulic clutch to warm up.
great vid. your car would be so much louder if you didn't have that rasp terminator and cats! haha regardless, sounds great and looks amazing, nice job.
Thanks. I have definitely thought about putting back in the stock section one without cats to see how it feels and sounds, but I'm a tree huger stuck with a contradicting addiction to speed so I can't bring myself to pollute more than I already do, haha.
The SMG is amazing, but I have never driven a stick M3 to compare to. I have driven a lot of other sticks, however, and when I drove the SMG I fell in love immediately. It might take a little while to get fully used to, less time if you have driven a stick, but when you do it creates a bond between you and the car I never felt with a stick or auto. I would definitely recommend everyone driving an smg in their lifetime.
I listen to all types of music, the next song could have been blue grass. I wasn't using launch control. Find a good M3. Be patient, drive several, if you haven't already, so you know whether or not its your driving or the tyranny that is weird. Good luck.
You just made me keep my Dinan, I thought it was a little too quite for my taste, With your exhaust mods it sounds sick!! Do you have a check engine light tho? Thanks for the awesome vid!
Yeah, I also thought the Dinan muffler was quiet, but it really does sound good with the other mods. I don't throw any codes or have any dash lights because I am running high flow cats, and still have the rear O2 sensors behind them. Thanks for the comment, later.
Brandon, I have Depo smoked corners, bumper reflectors, and side markers, as stated in the description. You can see them at around 2:00. The first part of the video was taken before I had them, the rest was taken after.
Preciate it man. I haven't done a full detail yet, only had the car since December and it had one done before I got it. It's about time to do another one for the summer though.
The SMG is the best thing I have ever driven. You have all the same benefits of a manual gearbox, coupled with faster than human shifting in the S6 mode (80 milliseconds). For daily driving I use S3 mode; smooth, easy on the clutch, but decently quick shifts. It takes a week or so to learn all the subtleties of the SMG, and for the computer to lean your driving style, but once it does you and the car have an awesome cohesion that kills any automatic or stick. I would definitely test drive one.
hey did u pass the smog with headers on it?

Thanks. I have definitely thought about putting back in the stock section one without cats to see how it feels and sounds, but I'm a tree huger stuck with a contradicting addiction to speed so I can't bring myself to pollute more than I already do, haha.

WhrsTheMoneyLabowski 2 years ago
wow, your m3 is beautiful! those rims go with it very well. how much hp do you think you're pushing to the wheels?
jrombaoa 2 years ago
thanks jrombaoa. I used a 4 wheel dyno which told me 290whp, but they said it reads low.
WhrsTheMoneyLabowski 2 years ago
damn?! to the wheels, that's still not bad at all. how do you like the smg compared to a stick though?
jrombaoa 2 years ago
The SMG is amazing, but I have never driven a stick M3 to compare to. I have driven a lot of other sticks, however, and when I drove the SMG I fell in love immediately. It might take a little while to get fully used to, less time if you have driven a stick, but when you do it creates a bond between you and the car I never felt with a stick or auto. I would definitely recommend everyone driving an smg in their lifetime.

Sounds great, but lose that pimp "music" shit. Love the SMG's wild ride. Were you using "launch control"? I'm about to buy a Dinan 2003.
gingervytis 2 years ago
I listen to all types of music, the next song could have been blue grass. I wasn't using launch control. Find a good M3. Be patient, drive several, if you haven't already, so you know whether or not its your driving or the tyranny that is weird. Good luck.

You just made me keep my Dinan, I thought it was a little too quite for my taste, With your exhaust mods it sounds sick!! Do you have a check engine light tho? Thanks for the awesome vid!
hondatuner88 2 years ago
Yeah, I also thought the Dinan muffler was quiet, but it really does sound good with the other mods. I don't throw any codes or have any dash lights because I am running high flow cats, and still have the rear O2 sensors behind them. Thanks for the comment, later.

BrandonXm3 2 years ago
Brandon, I have Depo smoked corners, bumper reflectors, and side markers, as stated in the description. You can see them at around 2:00. The first part of the video was taken before I had them, the rest was taken after.

Preciate it man. I haven't done a full detail yet, only had the car since December and it had one done before I got it. It's about time to do another one for the summer though.

XkillerHopsX 2 years ago
Hey im lookin into getting an M3. How do you like the SMG trans? Nice cra by the way
XkillerHopsX 2 years ago
The SMG is the best thing I have ever driven. You have all the same benefits of a manual gearbox, coupled with faster than human shifting in the S6 mode (80 milliseconds). For daily driving I use S3 mode; smooth, easy on the clutch, but decently quick shifts. It takes a week or so to learn all the subtleties of the SMG, and for the computer to lean your driving style, but once it does you and the car have an awesome cohesion that kills any automatic or stick. I would definitely test drive one.
