glad to help spread the great music of gary stewart, check out sonny tackett, on here, garys good friend, he is a very talented singer and songwriter,
I love this song iam so sad that gary did play this song when we did soon shows to gather i was his drummer in fla.for a short time rally miss him joe f
I grew up as a boy in Ft. Pierce FL. My aunt was head bartender at a place called Frankie & Johnny's (miss ya Aunt Jo). Gary was there singing pretty often. I got to see him a couple times, but he'd sing a song and be done when I got there. One night at a little place called Burns Steak House or "Rialto's" Gary was there and we got him to sing. I barely knew him but he asked me to help sing his songs... and I'm no singer. Just a plain old guy with a horrible voice singing with a true great! MP
i cut my teeth on all of the ole honky tonk ballards and it doesnt get better than gary! anytime im in the mood gary is first on my list. never really knew why he wasnt more poplar and its sad to now why..... but no one can take away who he was.... the best in my book.
Man I miss Gary. He was friends with members of the house band at the bar where my mom worked in Okeechobee. Just showed up one time to jam with his friends. What a voice... what a songwriter. No more like him left. This is without a doubt my favorite song by him, even though it's hard to choose a favorite with all he did. Thanks for posting it.
I saw Gary perform a lot mostly in Ft Pierce and Vero Beach Fl. at the Long Branch . I miss you Gary you where the best and still the best country singer of all time.
i grew up listening to Gary Stewart because my late sister listened to his tapes. Now it brings me memories of her. she was a fan and now i am for over 10 years now. i miss you both.
May Gary rest in peace. I spoke to him on the phone quite often, but sadly, I never met him in person. What a great loss to all of us. This is one of my favorite songs by him. Great post.
Gary was just plain and simply Gary. A true Honkey Tonker from the word go. Just a true and natural singer. Had his demons as we all do. Loved one woman and one woman only. When she left this earth, Gary couldn' t cope with it. I understand. Me? After 45 years with my wife, the love of my life. I understand. Gary, you are missed my brother. Tonk away in heaven. Remember, God loves a Tonker.
Gary grew up in "my town," and I was never old enough to get in where he was playing. I never met him in person, but I spoke with him on the phone quite a few times. The world lost a great voice and talent in music when Gary left us.
The difference between Gary and the so called country singers of today is; Gary was truly GREAT and didn't see himself that way and the so called of today are not so great and believe they are. We who understand true country know the difference.
@mypeggyb I am so happy to see someone who understands true music.Whatever your music taste [mine being true metal] is something that comes from the heart..There is only a hand full of artists today that could convey that type of emotion that Gary and let's say Thin Lizzy did. People that listen to the radio and think that is all there is have missed out on the most heart felt music ever made. Mainstream music is and always be a joke!
Gary's buddy Dean Dillon is also a very good talent ,, and sometimes...maybe just a little you can hear a lil' similarity in the music. Of course nobody will never ever replace Gary Stewart......
Gary used to play here in Ft. Pierce, Florida at Frankie &Johnny's. I had a chance to Play with his brother Gerald. He is still a hometown favorite, and there are still some of us that got to meet him up close and personal. I had the chance to play piano for him, but I passed it up.
ive always loved everything gary sangs. gary was the greatest and was over looked bad and didnt get the recognition he deserved.i will miss you gary ...
"i still love to drank my beer and i still love to fukkin honkeytonk!!!".... loved you at Dance City in New Caney Texas a few yrs ago, and love you Gary now on my computer, haha!!!!!
Gary was one of the greatest singers of all time. my father left before i was born, and my mother died shortly after. so i was raised by my grandparents, and this song was one of my grandfathers favorites...as well as mine. thanks a lot for posting it.
GREAT singer and performer. I wore his albums out in the 70's. I love You-Tube and the chance to see my favorites again. Thank!!! Gary is the BEST!!!
