We are all flowers that beautify the world, my little flower will bring a smile to someone. If no one but myself. Aretha will never be replaced She is truly the Queen of Soul in everyway. beautiful as they slide toward the pool of style from one side of the aisle toward the swirling center where whirling soul and hip hop mixing smooth and boppy this is perfect evolution
i am amazed that i remember this song, i use to bop my head along with this in the back seat of my ma's car, i loved it, but never knew the meaning of the song... but now that i am older, i know exactly what it means.... and i greatly appreciate this song.
Remembered this song since age 8 and from the 3rd to the 7th Grade, I was molested by three boys at a church/child care center because of my Autistic Spectrum Disorder and the fact that they called me a gay girl and a retard. But now, I am here as a battle dancer, an MC, a beat-maker, a graff-writer and a ghostwriter.
@ejleed Thank you, man! Thank you for listening! Right now, I'm thinking of making a Hip-Hop remix of this song in order to do a Popping Solo against a bopper [video vixen]/preacher, along with making six mixtapes.
to all those roses out there who may have been stepped on, have dirt on them or been thrown away never the less you are still a beautiful flower ladies or shall i say concrete roses
This Queen was my late momas American Idol. I once asked moma why she adored Ms. Franklin so much & mama told me, "Son, back in those days in the U.S. Aretha made every black woman feel Loved, even when they man would walk out. She made us feel there wasn't anything we couldn't do if we stuck 2gether & believed in ourself. She made us feel successful even though we were broke, she made us feel beautiful even when we felt bad with low esteem." Michelle is 1st lady but Aretha is our Queen Elizbeth
@therealraybaby Wow' now that's beautiful ♥ I'm really touched to know how our Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin impact on all the women in dem days...how powerful, I felt that same power in this song as well!
What your mother told you is absolutely true. Knowing that there is someone who has been through what you have been through and then turns it into song makes you feel good because you now know that you are not alone; that even the best of the best have their problems and survived. And if they can do it, so can you.
Aretha hasn't made a proper album since this one but it was a fantastic album and Lauryn Hill delivered the goods. I know it doesn't sound like, but Aretha actually says, "Now the rose is scorned, and she wears her THORNS trying to forget about you." I love that line, because it fits in so perfectly with the "rose" theme, and it makes sense, because now the woman/rose has to guard herself and her heart from being hurt again, so she wears "thorns" to protect herself. A 90s classic song that actually has substance.. and the song speaks about life unlike Today's music which taks about booty shaking and singers who dress sexually provocative
this is the reason for my rose tattoo on my ankle...girls of the world unite!! & remember we are all still flowers no matter what :) (btw this girl is now 43???! how did that happen??? LOL)

@SistahKenya You absolutely right. Hardly any artists record song with positive messages anymore. I'm so glad I grew up in the era I did.

A 90s classic song that actually has substance.. and the song speaks about life unlike Today's music which taks about booty shaking and singers who dress sexually provocative
