We are all flowers that beautify the world, my little flower will bring a smile to someone. If no one but myself. Aretha will never be replaced She is truly the Queen of Soul in everyway. • the dislikers are the rose's thorns =/ .. love this song. its so powerful !

  • Remembered this song since age 8 and from the 3rd to the 7th Grade, I was molested by three boys at a church/child care center because of my Autistic Spectrum Disorder and the fact that they called me a gay girl and a retard. But now, I am here as a battle dancer, an MC, a beat-maker, a graff-writer and a ghostwriter.

  • @SonicSupremeSGT3 Thats some deep shit...much respect.

  • @ejleed Thank you, man! Thank you for listening! Right now, I'm thinking of making a Hip-Hop remix of this song in order to do a Popping Solo against a bopper [video vixen]/preacher, along with making six mixtapes.

  • @SonicSupremeSGT3 dont enough remixes.

  • @SonicSupremeSGT3

    God is with you:)

  • Damn dude I remember My Mom Used to Blast this shiit! love it! Love Aretha! Shes so DOpe!

  • This song is helping me now

  • This Queen was my late momas American Idol. I once asked moma why she adored Ms. Franklin so much & mama told me, "Son, back in those days in the U.S. Aretha made every black woman feel Loved, even when they man would walk out. She made us feel there wasn't anything we couldn't do if we stuck 2gether & believed in ourself. She made us feel successful even though we were broke, she made us feel beautiful even when we felt bad with low esteem." Michelle is 1st lady but Aretha is our Queen Elizbeth

  • @therealraybaby as a former classmate of Michelle, I think she'd find your words very true. And your mama is one smart woman! :)

  • @therealraybaby I agree soo much! I´m 34 year old woman from Croatia,Europe, still she touches my life in soo many ways!

  • Comment removed

  • @therealraybaby Love that you expressed this so others could read it.

  • @therealraybaby Wow' now that's beautiful ♥ I'm really touched to know how our Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin impact on all the women in dem days...how powerful, I felt that same power in this song as well!

  • @therealraybaby wow.....

  • @therealraybaby

What your mother told you is absolutely true. Knowing that there is someone who has been through what you have been through and then turns it into song makes you feel good because you now know that you are not alone; that even the best of the best have their problems and survived. And if they can do it, so can you.

  • @therealraybaby

OMG!!! Your mama was a very wise women. She couldn't have said it better....and neither could you. God Bless....

  • @therealraybaby That should be a quote. Now I got somthing to tell my mom when she feels down

  • Aretha hasn't made a proper album since this one but it was a fantastic album and Lauryn Hill delivered the goods. But Lauryn has somewhat never followed up on the enormous potential she showed in the late 90s. I mean, we're still waiting and her last album was 8 years ago. I don't care how good the material might be, she has fallen off the radar.

  • @journeythruthepast How good for Lauryn that she has obviously found she likes motherhood and bringing up a young family (5 kids in 10 years!) She doesn't have to churn out fodder at frequent intervals to remain remain relevant. The number of hits on this site or on any of her other songs speaks for itself.

  • Aretha looks like a queen. One of my fave songs

  • Too bad Aretha doesn't look like that anymore. She is the world's best and biggest singer.

  • i gotta love my queen aretha

  • I dont see how 49 dislike this song. Its a great song. They must bee some young kids not to like this song

  • I love this song . It helped me get through a really hard time in my life when i had a boyfriend that would beat me but then i heard this song & i left him for good....

  • Taking a look at the frst appearance of Aretha, she reminds me Whoopi Goldberg in "Ghost". LOL!!!

  • @MrLiccoFernandes Lmao u stupid she do lol

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!

  • meke song sista

  • go queen at 3:48. that is what up! still demanding respect after 40 years plus in the industry!

  • i miss that late 90s early 2000s style.

  • SOMEBODY PLEASE REACH OUT TO FANTASIA.

  • @rasjhy1 I Love me some Fantasia...I will.

  • Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Q-Tip is fine!

  • @desire14899 OH YES HE IS!!!

  • Another one of your favs....This song WHOA no telling what I would be doing "with him"!! it's funny the way this song was out while " we" were in. I sharpen up tho...Grandma knows best Thanks so much!

  • tell the truth ladies you are and always will be a rose

  • I LOVE THE MESSAGE IN THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is just a classic!!!!

  • To me Faith Evans is so beautiful!

  • did anyone notice that amel larrieux was in this video?

  • @TheApplepie33 I know that's my baby right there straight up

  • Aretha is goddess. No singer today could ever dream of holding a candle to her.

  • @FantasyTribal amen to dat!!!

  • THIS SONG IS TIMELESS...TIMELESS...TIMELESS..50 YEARS FROM NOW IM SURE IT WILL STILL BE PLAYED IN CLUBS AND RADIO..ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMANCE EVER RECORDED!!!

  • Q Tip did it

  • @unspokenrespect HE LOOK FINEE!!!!

  • True Words!

  • love the sexy, poofy winter jackets : )

  • aretha is such a great inspiration

  • the intro sounds like 'rainy days'

  • wow i can't believe q-tip played the bad guy in the video cuz he's the exact opposite in real life :)

  • @ATCQFAN17 Sometimes, people choose to play charracters, than are very different from themselves, as a challenge. It's probebly a bit boring to play yourself.

  • aint seen this vid for tiiiiiime, tunage still

  • Lauryn wrote a great song and Ms. Ree did her thang. One of my favorites.

  • THE QUEEN REIGNS ON THIS ONE!!!!

    THE QUEEN AND L BOOGIE...CLASSIC!!!!

  • Wassup Lauren? If you watching this... Please check my channel and view the contact info at the end of my Hiphop videos.... I would love to do a song with you. Give me a call. I already have the perfect beat for us. Bring Aretha through too.

  • @K2AStarVision hey its lauryn, yeah i'd love to, i think you're amazin i've been a fan of your work for so long, where are you from? i'll have to get my management team to take me to your place, aretha says she wants to come too as long as there's some oreo's

  • @converseshoeboy ahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • magia wspomnień na sen...goodnight word!

  • she reminds me of Cesaria Evora here

  • I know it doesn't sound like, but Aretha actually says, "Now the rose is scorned, and she wears her THORNS trying to forget about you." I love that line, because it fits in so perfectly with the "rose" theme, and it makes sense, because now the woman/rose has to guard herself and her heart from being hurt again, so she wears "thorns" to protect herself. A very beautiful, deep, and touching song.

  • Wow..I remember this song, I was like 14 or 15...Awesome song....I love it

  • baby guuurl you are still a flowaaah !

  • Sheee weaaars a THOONG?!!

  • @itsmauriceshakeel though a thong might help, too!

  • omg i remember listening to this when i was little. i havent heard it in years. wow. man this is so amazing, moreso now that im older.

  • You might appreciate this video recorded in NYC on an independent music television show called Video Music Box. A bunch of NYC-based hip-hop artists (Lauryn Hill, Method Man, Jeru the Damaja, etc) got together to talk about police brutality in their neighborhoods with Crazy Sam.

    youtube.com/watch?v=tJEM8sIS0uc

It's inspiring to see such talented artists with real compassion and concern for what was going on in the community.

  • I wish they made more encouraging songs like this for young girls and women. this is one of the best songs.

  • i was just thinkin about this song a few days ago LOL love this song..super old

  • Lauryn Hill you have got to come back! we miss you girl!

  • Lauryn Hill put her foot in this song. Everything about this song is great.

  • AWWW! Q-Tip @ 1:23 .. omg q-tip is so precious. even though he's the bad guy in this lol

  • I still love this song!! So many young women need to hear this today!!

  • @SistahKenya You absolutely right. Hardly any artists record song with positive messages anymore. I'm so glad I grew up in the era I did.

  • Such a beautiful song!

  • The album was released in 1998, not 1999. :-)

  • they or both QUEENS

  • Damn I forgot how deep this song is... got me crying

  • god just protect my babies

  • i love aretha in this video, she's like this stunning but wise mother giving advice to a young girl.

  • Lauryn Hill is amazingly intelligent!

  • A 90s classic song that actually has substance.. and the song speaks about life unlike Today's music which taks about booty shaking and singers who dress sexually provocative

  • One of Ree-Ree's best! This song will never lose it's impact.

  • my favourite song so far..go galz....
