I have one of these, its a good back-up knife to throw in my backpack, in case i forgot my edc, a cold steel AK47 mini. nothing special though, I feel like the fast draw system is a bit gimmicky
yeah i just cut my finger on 1 of those they are knife they inlude hole punch they are as sharp as an razor
i have a knife because i do emergency services and they come in handy my tech sargent has 1 its flashy but i prefer my
Ozark Trail Folding Pocket Knife 3 in. blade belt clip its concealable nad as sharpplus it ha nuckle grooves for good slashing motion and u can throw punches with this item its durable and has more grip then the knife u c above in vid
the ozark trail knives are crap... no offense but they are one dollar knives and have no warrenty when gerbers are at least 15 bucks and have lifetime...
Hey I'm looking to buy one of these at Wal-Mart ($30), and just have a couple questions. It does lock when the blade is not out, right? And how do you like the serrated half of it? I'm kind-of resistant on getting that one witht he serrated edge, but saw a video of another Gerber with the same style blade and the serrated edge was hella sharp. What do you think?
It does lock when the blade is in. The serrated half is nice and stays very sharp (that's the point of a serrated blade, after all, since the valleys do not come in contact with surfaces as much) but if/when it does become dull its more difficult to sharpen because you need a different tool. If you don't want to have to fuss with it, I would say go with nonserated version. I would have because I prefer a nonserated knife for the tasks I normally use it for but it was not available at the time.
I picked it up the other day. Gotta say, I really like it. I think I'll be fine with the serrated blade. I think what I meant by the blade locking was if it locked in any position. I've found this to be false; however, I still really like the knife. Thanks for the info on the serrated blade.
the serrated edge is amazingly sharp. when the straight edge is dull, you can always count on the teeth to be sharp. i paid 40 buck for it at gander mountain. i like it. it's a very tough
dont know if you've ever played the original DOOM but for some reason that click noise reminds me of when u pick up a new gun.....i've owned this knife for a while now and i LOVE it.
i own this knife and i believe its one of the best knives you can get for the money. I recommend using a stone to sharpen it because anything else will trash the edge.
ive had mine since christmas '07 and i havnt sharpened it and i just cut myself to the bone last week on accident and i swear i didnt feel a thing...its still that sharp
i just cut myself to the bone but i knew it but that's cause i watched it but man i didn't feel anything but man i bled everywhere...it was awesome :P and now i have a bandaged up thumb these knifes are razor sharp :O
does anyone know if gerber makes a switchblade without the serration thing
I don't know what the knife laws are like in Germany, but the fact is you could stab someone with a kitchen knife and do more damage than with this 3 inch blade. Why is being able to buy this at Walmart such a problem?
first, we've got something like shops for weapons (including knifes like these), which only adults can enter.
maybe you're right with the kitchen knife, but you've got to admit that there are higher rates of stabbing in the US. (< ok, my english sucks here, hope you get it!)I can't explain it, but it's the truth... can anyone help? I failed =)
Don't worry, your english is perfect! Although the crime rates are higher in US, you do have to be 18 to purchase a weapon like this from walmart. I'm the type that believes availability of weapons (including concealed guns) is not the source of violence in America and the right to defend ourselves should not come second to those who will break the law to obtain a weapon anyways. But I also understand and respect your point of view. Greetings from the US.
My sisters in rutgers in newark so I had to get her pepper spray but they didnt have any so I got ger a spring assisted knife.Once she got to defend herself.
not a big fan of gerber too much never know what steel they use probably 440a but i just bought a kershaw avalanche s30v blade and a g-10 handle and it was only $40 cause my place of employment was blowing em out cause we dont sell alot of em so i also bought a tanto 1/2 serrated recon 1 for the same price. kershaw was $89.99 and the cold steel recon was $92.99.
Why not a Kershaw or a Buck assisted opener? I thought since Gerbers manufactuering went to China their steel quality and reliability went with them...to China.
I try to buy American when I can. I like the Leek and Outvurst for their speed and the sweet abuse they take. Thanks for posting your first Gerber assisted opening knive.
I can't say I am much of a knife connoisseur but for my needs it has served its purpose (reasonably priced, durable, etc) regardless of its country of origin. To be fair, Kershaw and others certainly do have some nice knives out there. On a side note I drive an American-made automobile (Nissan) a Japanese made sport bike (Honda) and apparently I operate a Chinese knife. Fortunately its only the car giving me trouble... :)
That's correct, Gerber has been bought by Fiskars and their pocket knives are made in China. Either way after comparing the two I prefer the Kershaw leek to the Gerber by a wide margin. With Kershaw, Case and Benchmade you know what the blade material is and can even find one with a certain material of your choice sometimes. S30V and 154CM are about the best blade steels you can get for an everyday knife.
ever have any problems with this knife? the blade is supposed to be great. I'm wondering how durable it is though. does it stay locked in your pocket? ever have any accidental openings? any complaints?
hey rockgod, I'm the original poster (new name) and I really don't have any complaints with this knife. Rock solid and I don't think an accidental release would eally be possible. I highly recommend. To be fair, one thing i noticed is that launching it with the trigger in the back sometimes results in the knife half open because the sprinig hasn't yet taken over. But I think this is just the stiffness resulting from it being new
No offense but that is the shittiest knife I've ever owned the grip split apart.
