Well, the topic for that particular Tyra show was was centered around the topic on bleaching. I think a lot of people pretty much got the picture of being happy with yourself no matter what your skin color.
PEASE be aware black people, regardless on the videos, there are white men and women on YouTube posing as black people and other races, starting drama within the black race!!!
Easy for this girl to say considering her skin is flawless. If she woke up in the morning and her skin was pitch black she would probably cry and wish it was lighter.
@mkf272 I don't think what you say is true. she's just trying to reach in . Who said being different is easy ? there are beautiful people in every race and colors and there are also ugly people . if your skin is black as the night and you're beautiful as well, wanting to bleach your sknin is a BIG issue, it shows you're not strong enough to find beauty in you, you prefer to follow the prototypes that TV asks you to follow
When I hear about black women trying to bleach their skin in order to look lighter, it truly makes me cry. As a 19 year old female who has been suffering from Vitiligo (also know as Leucoderma) since I was 14 years old. I would do ANYTHING to be a beautiful dark shade. The African American skin tone is sooo beautiful to me. What will it take to get my people to see it, embrace it and accept it? I have a condition where I cant help being a light shade while these people have a choice!
Using delicious terms in describing people's looks is never a bad thing. Dark chocolate and milk chocolate and even white chocolate all taste soooooo good!
I liked everything u said but u have to think if u take a DARK. woman and make her LIGHT sorry for saying this but truth be told she wold look better ONLY because light brings out more beauty but no doubt dark woman are beautiful no doubt
Ohhh lady! I do exactly same thing with describing colors :) I come from Poland; my skin is pinky-white, like a yoghurt+strawberry chocolate filling, when Im not tanned; when I tan a little bit (cuz generally my skin doesnt tan, it just burns :P) Im more like dark honey. My boyfriend, who is Nigerian, is like apple+cinnamon+honey when not tanned; when tanned, he turnes into a milk chocolate :P Its OH SO FUN and yummy to describe ourselves this way, Im loving it! :)
Finally an African American woman that is extremely well spoken with magnific gesticular mannerism. And very beautiful too!
Usually African American women cannot be articulate, very unfortunetely. NO racism is involved, that does not mean that African women are not articulate.
@ReturnOfJackDawson your comment shows how little you know African women!!! But you know what, there are sooo many ignorant people out there!!! You are such a good example!!!
am dark skin, i love my own colour, but society brings me down and makes it hard to feel good about yourself, the things people say to me brings me down, it got to me when some boy said to me 'am ugly and no boys will never want me, and how he can't see me because am too dark' people have been picking on me since secondary skool. i like the way i am, and the things people say do bring others down.
IF SOMEONE PREFERS LIGHT SKIN THAN THATS THEI PREFERENCE, IT IS NONE OF UR CONCERN! HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LOOKING WHITE BECAUSE WHITES DONT OWN LIGHT SKIN...ALL CULTURES HAVE LIGHT SKINTONES! MAJORITY OF THE WORLD PREFERS LIGHT SKIN ON A FEMALE, ITS PERSONAL PREFERENCE..IF U TAN OR LIGHTEN..THATS UR BIZ! PLUS I KNOW MANY WHITE GIRLS WHO BLEACH TO BE FAIRER CUZ THEY LOVE FAIR SKIN
@markee871 I absolutely agree with you. There is no right or wrong whether anyone wants to get lighter or darker or leave themselves as they are. What matters is how they like themselves. We don't have to do what society expects of us as long as there is no law against that. After all, this is America, a free country.
You are very beautiful! I totally agree with you :)
You crayon story reminds me of when I was drawing an Egyptian lady last week - I only had an orange for white, and a brown for black, when really she wasn't either colour.
I'd like you to stop saying "Hispanics" look like this or that way. Spanish-speakers are of ALL colours. There are whites (Spaniards, Argentines, Uruguayans, Mexican criollos, Cubans, etc), blacks (Equatorial Guinea, Dom. Republic, black Cubans), mestizos / indigenous American admixture (most Mexicans, Central Americans, Peruvians, Bolivians), Middle-Eastern groups (gypsies, Sahrawis, Sephardi Jews) and Asians (Filipinos). So, STOP IT! ._.
as long as you have a perfect healthy skin, who cares what color it is? I mean think of those who suffer from acne and skin diseases and think of how lucky you are!
You don't understand that people have preferences and the standard of beauty is cultural. A lot of times the typical black woman is view as ugly in many cultures.
@DeviousBetrayer Which is still completely biased if most of them are obese or ghetto, what next your going to say that is a good representative of all black girls ?!?! And im not prejudice you can get red hair for all i care but the point is that you should do it because you want to and not because its the new thing and you think it makes you better looking or because rihanna is doing it.
@DeviousBetrayer You probably feel like they are unattractive because you are not attractive to them. There are a lot of beautiful black women in the world.
@DeviousBetrayer I like that you said "to me" and that's how people should talk instead of stating "natural black women are ugly" . it's a question of taste. people also like confidence. if you bleach your sknin to become wither it shows you hate your original self and are easily influenced. I don't think that's sexy at all ! but then again, lol, i'm from europe
I think everyone should just embrace themselves exactly how they are.. im 100% european and im very fair and people always say i should tan or that i look like im sick! but this is my skin colour and i think its beautiful :) so all black women should love themselves just how they are weather their light or dark.. the beauty of the world is the diversity!
@KumarZimmerman08 I get the exact same response! I also try to avoid the sun to maintain my beautiful ivory white skin, but others always tell me that I am too pale. They should just shut up and mind their own business: beauty comes in many varieties.
I'm sick of all these self hate. Damn if ur dark light white latino asian indian or whatever just be happy with what u got. There is no one definition of beauty so make your own and stop trying to be something your not
Race makes a difference every day, people. Others will look at our colors. However, do notice once again that being white is such an advantage. A white chick would not have to do this video.
2:12-2:15 That statement baffled me, no offense meant to you because you're probably right. But to me, it was baffling because if I ever describe someone as having "dark" or "deep skin" (which I wouldn't because I know they might be sensitive to it), it would be meant as a compliment. Never would I have thought that describing someone's skin tone had an automatic attractiveness label.
I like your video my sister. I agree. The oversimplification of the terms and categories we use to describe one another cause problems. I especially don't like the terms white and black. These terms do not embrace the wide range of skin tones. The black and white terms serve to divide us. That's not what society needs. Society needs to come together; to work, play and live together. Divisive labels serve to divide.
What I think is interesting is how dark skinned people want to be white and whites wanna be tan ..Uhm and what I have relized is why do we call Africans black when most of their color looks more brown or dark brown ? I don't like when people say "black" I'm like a light carmel color n I'm Guyanese and I was born white but no one believes me ! When I show my baby pics they say it's some1 else n it just hurts my feelings and like I always say every1 is beautiful in this world!!
I agree have fun with it! But i dont like people who go crazy and blame their expression because I feel as if its not beauty that they are seeking but attention. I think that beauty is very diverse but elegance is more refined more, preset then beauty. Does anyone agree or disagree?
Puls, a lot of beautification product in western countries are much more synthetic basis than the one in asia region. For example, the relaxing as a method of straightening the hair. In Asia we use rebonding technique which is not painful at all and the result is a heavenly smooth and shining hair coz it comes from the usage of milder chemical as oppose to relaxing. I've tried relaxing since at first, I thought it is the same as the rebonding. And I know how painful that procedure is.
Tyra was saying about bleaching creams all around asia and how vast these products are used among asian. But one thing that Tyra didnt know or mybe didnt want to clarify is that in asia that product is not called bleaching instead it is called fairness cream which is totally different than bleaching itself. It is whole lot milder that when you put it on skin, you'll feel like you're applying lotion. And of course, the result is not as good as the bleaching coz it comes from herbs and stuffs.
black women born black kids so you change your skin you put your black kids in danger this is a black planet and it was ment for black people. god made this a black planet and it's a shame we change what god gave us for some european crap all colors comes from black people that goes for whites also check the history.........
I'm so glad that there are great African American stars who embrace their dark skin and it has help me get over the fact that being dark skin is okay and beautiful. We don't have those kinds of role models in South East Asia and if there is i will never see or hear about them, that's how bad it is if you dark skin there and if they do want to be noticed they have to get their skin bleached, even the men do it and some go on to have surgery to get eye lids. It's sad but it's true.
With my family my sister and i and my younger brother are dark skined and my other brother is light skined like my mum, all conceieved by the same 2 parents and they are both asian from the same country, but my father has darker skin than my mother. Many young asian people look up to African American musicians and actors because of some of the similarites in society and culture. That's why you get some asian kids wanting to be black because they feel like they can identfy with them.
My husband and i are both asian and we both have families with siblings that are of different colour and tones. my husbands skin colour is a light tan, he has a big family, 3 of his brothers and 1 sister are very dark skin, 1 borther and 1 sister with very light skin and all conceived by the same 2 parents but just truned out different colours.
As a child my nickname was blacky, it was a term i didn't like which my cosuins used to call me and yes they are light skined. Most asian men prefer light skined asian women or white women and consider dark skin asian women to be ugly. But i'm lucky i'm married to a goregous asian man who loves my dark skin. Sometimes i feel insecure when i'm out shopping with my hubby and a bunch of light skined skinny asian girls walking by and making comments like "ew! he's with her she's so black"
My best friend is from thailand and she is dark skined and she has caved into the pressure of light skin is more beautiful and better and she considering going back to thailand to get a full body skin bleaching treatment to lighten her skin. I don't believe in skin bleaching because of the horrible side effects you may get and also love my dark skin and it took me a long time to be able to do that and i'm 30 yrs old.
I watch a lot of asian movies and every now and again i indulge in soap operas from thailand i noticed they only cast light skined asians and actors,
most actors there also bleach their skin, skin bleaching is a big industry in asia. Sometimes they do cast dark skined asians but always only as house maids, servants or babysitters, they don't get major roles. It's really disappoints me.
Discrimination amongst our own race also happens with asian people and asian communities, i'm not American, but Australian and i'm dark skin and was born in south east asia. Most People assume we are all light skin like chinese people, but also come in all different shades and colours, even chinese people. Just like everywhere else light skin is considered more beautiful.
Tyra sucks to me now! I stop watching her show a long time ago. I feel she's phony and condescending. She always puts Black women on blast about one subject or the other. Tyra herself is colorstruck. And obvious has a lot issues herself about her body image.
And let's not forget the time when she was thicker and she was on the whole thick is beautiful and love your sellf. Now she looks thinner now than she was when she was modeling as a teen. I'm like make your mind up heffa? lol
WHITE PEOPLE WANT EVERY AFRICAN TO LOOK LIKE THEM BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT TAN LIKE US...TELLS THESE WHITE PEOPLE TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES....THATS WHY THEY HAVE TO USE TANNING CREAM TO GO TO THE BEACH TO STAY IN THE SUN.....TANNING SALON WAS BUILT FOR THE WHITE RACE TO DARKEN THERE SKIN LIKE AFRICAN PEOPLE ...THIS MEANS THEY HATE THERE WHITE GHOSTLY PALE SKIN...THEY JUST WANT TELL YOU THAT IN YOUR FACE THAT YOUR SKIN COLOR IS BEAUTIFUL. YOU WILL FIND SOME OF THEM WILL CONFESS BUT MOST HIDE IT.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!! THAT'S WHAT I SAID WHEN IT FIRST AIRED!!! i hate how when this matter is discussed the end message seems to be that "it doesnt matter what color you are, just whats on the inside blah.. blah.. blah.." when that's what you tell someone when there is something wrong with them. instead it should be "Fuck what society says, you now know why, so ditch that idea and know that you are beautiful"
This sounds 'off the wall' but I think blacks and Indians from india had a problem with skin color because the blacks who had money especially in the U.S. inhereted money and assets. [and money talks] from their white masters years ago (DuBois). whites usually dont have this problem i see: white guys go out with dark black girls, (the colorism doesn't affect them)
Why must Black folk, such as myself obsess about color and skin tone. I notice that people that think they are LIGHT seem to want to be the spokesperson for ALL of us. Personally, I think many of us are so filled with self loathing that you feel the need to over explain us. You are not speaking for me. I am soooo secure in ME. Nobody defines me, including my own people. I am a Black woman. Whew.....I gotta get off of this now.
I'm not sure how to say this but here it goes, Why is it that if a black women lightens her skin, its is wrong and she is ashamed of her race, but its okay for a white women to get a tan to be darker. Just think about that. That came from Michael Jackson who had a skin disorder and bleach part of his skin so he wouldn't look like a cow. Can you really blame him.
@EdwardPack1988 michael jackson was a different case, anyone who made fun of him for having this disorder is just an ass....an no offense, but michaels, irrelevant to the topic. white women tanning and black women bleaching are not comparable (being that white women are naturally pale and african americans along with many other ethnicities have been forced to adhere to eurocentric beauty standards. white's have never "had" to be any shade in order to be "beautiful" or accepted)
@amastara Why could this topic not apply to Michael Jackson. I was just expression Michael Jackson thoughts on the topic and he had a good point. I'm sure there are many Black males and white males who want to look darker or lighter.
@amastara He counts because he made a good argument on the topic. Everyone says its wrong if a black lady whitens her skin, but if a white women gets a tan to look darker, then its OK. I obviously know he had a skin disorder. But instead of completely covering his body with black make up which most people with vitiligo Do, he went white. Lots of people said he was trying to be white. That he doesn't want to be black. So yes he does fit in this discussion.
@EdwardPack1988 if youve ever listened to michael's crew talk about his disorder, they clearly state that he had in fact covered it with makeup for a while until it began to get worse and just became an extra chore added to an already hectic schedule. and again he had a Medical condition that he wanted to correct so that he didnt have spots, stupid black people who just want to look like one of mas'a's kids, do not. so his case makes sense. we dont know him so its not like--you know?
@amastara Trust me I know a lot about MJ. Unfortunately Never mean him, never will. Like I said before I was stating what he said about skin bleaching and skin darkening that's all. I know about his disorder and him trying years to cover it up. Trust me I know.
@EdwardPack1988 the answer is simple: THE REASONS why white women want to get darker and black women want to get lighter. When European women are tanning their just making a purely aestical and fashionable choice, they may feel more attractive with a tan , but they will not feel ugly or made to feel ugly because of their skin tone. For black women it goes deeper as their whole sense of self and the value that they put on themselves(and that mainstream society put on them)....
@naobe5 You are exactly right. Also, people fail to point out that tans are 100% natural. black people can tan as well! Stand out in the sun and you WILL get darker! Bleaching, the breaking down of and inhibiting of your natural melanin through chemicals is not comparable to tanning and is far more dangerous.
@EdwardPack1988 Because white women can get tan naturally....theyre not trying to do something that they cant get eventually if they stay out in the sun long enough over the course of a few months. Theyre not trying to be black, theyre just getting a tan. Black skin on the other hand does not ever turn white....
@redsmooch989 There still trying to get darker. It seems like some black people want to be a little whiter why some white people want to be darker. Everyone seems to want to be in the middle.
@EdwardPack1988 Yea, I used to ask myself the same question. But the answer
is history. Black people were enslaved. Ya digg? Our inferiority was justified religiously(Curse of Ham). This belief was encouraged to solidify as slavery presented huge politcal and economical benefits. Therefore even though slavery was abolished in 1865,they were still struggling in the 1950's to be intergrated.
So basically, the point is that the wound hasn't completley healed and
@EdwardPack1988 The white girl that tans and that black girl that
bleaches might both have similar esthetical reasons however they impact people differently. The black sista reinforces to some extent this racist mentality that still lingers. While our white girl can try but will fail to be credible(Did
@imanmani07 Yes white people were salves. But slaves by white masters. Of course that ancient times, and dont forget the Jews who were slaved many times. First By Egyptian, then Romans, and Germany. Slavery is just a wicked part of human nature. Im pretty sure that black society has had slaves back in the day.
@EdwardPack1988 egypt is in africa and at that time befor egypt was invaded by whites the egyptians were black, just like here in america there wasnt any whites or blks here 700yrs ago
Because the darker one's skin is the more protection they have from the UV rays of the sun, so it only makes since that a white women would want to darken her skin. Also I think white women are of the perception that a tan looks better than pale.
@rynex01 exactly, the perception that darker skin (tan) looks better. I have never seen anyone get a tan to prevent sunburn although it is a benefit. Usually they complain about looking pale, then go to the tanning bed.
@EdwardPack1988 well actively going and sitting in the sun for hours to get a tan is bad more so for skin cancer reasons but going in the sun and tanning is a natural reaction to the world we live in.
Putting a chemical on your skin is just wierd and wrong to lighten it
You see the difference between white women changing their skin colour and black women changing their skin colour is the origins of both traditions. In the white world having a tan was introduced or rather made popular by Coco chanel. She went on a meidterrenean cruise during winter and came back with golden skin and everybody fell for that because it said that: I have the money to spend my time outside in leisure and go to places that are sunny when it's cold where I live.
continued... When the tan became popular the western world was at the peak of mass industrialization. so poor people who worked in factories all day were pale. rich people who spent their time in the sun were tan.
During the victorian era being pale as milk was considered beautiful because it implied that you were rich enough to spend your time indoors playing piano or drawing. most of the jobs back then were outside (eg Farming) So it was considered unsightly to be browner.
@EdwardPack1988 cntd... So the preferred colour for white women has changed through time. Whereas with black women it has always been "get as light as you can" And although it stemmed from a need to survive,"" lighter slaves lived better lives" It is now outdated. And it just as wrong as using outdated money to try and buy thing today. Being light is no longer a matter of survival. And the problem comes when people still have the idea that they can/must "use this old money".
@EdwardPack1988, actually, every white lady I know has no interest whatsoever in looking dark by tanning or by using any other method, but I can only speak from what I have seen.
@sandinyourshoes Look around more. We have white people who go to the tanning bed who look so dark, some can pass for Hispanic. They do that cause they think that white is ugly.
@EdwardPack1988, oh, please! As a general rule, they do not. There are always some, of course, but that is highly pushed by the entertainment media. Look at the people who are up for Oscars: White people, of course. This includes Amy Adams, who is very beautifully white. I do not see her trying to "darken up," and I bet men of any color would find her attractive. "Pass for Hispanic?" What color is "Hispanic?" What disqualifies someone from being white or black because he speaks Spanish?
@sandinyourshoes Its has nothing do with Hispanics. It had to do with white people wanted to look REALLY dark as well as white people wanting to look lighter. I never said all white people wanted to be white. What im trying to say is the some black people want to be whiter and some white people want to be blacker. They do not embrace there own natural skin color. Yes its true that if a white person stays in the sun they will get darker, but some white people have taken it to the extreme.
@EdwardPack1988, but you wrote "pass for Hispanic." That is not a color. It never was. Nevertheless, I agree that there are whites who take it too far. It also makes me think of blacks and other non-whites who "bleach" to look lighter. I hear so much criticism against it, but I feel that it is that person's choice to do so. Why must someone be forced to accept his color if he is not happy with it? Tyra had a guest who was black but wanted so much to be white. Nothing wrong with it to me.
@sandinyourshoes when I say pass for Hispanic, I mean they can pass for someone who is Hispanic, Latin, Mexican, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese. people like that. some people are trying to look like something that there not, and when people do that, they are ashamed of themselves and need help. You should love your self, not try to fix something that's not broken.
@EdwardPack1988,why should anyone assume that the person who wants to bleach her skin is someone who is "ashamed" in any manner whatsoever? Why assume it is an issue of race or hating one's self? When a person decides to date someone of a different race, she may say, "It is my right." Is it not her right if she then decides to bleach her skin out of preference? Should a black child not play with a white and blonde or redhead doll? And, the nationalities you mentioned have blacks and whites.
@sandinyourshoes there nothen with white kids playing with black kids, its not about hating others, it about hating ones self. If a black girl wants to be white, then there is a problem with that withen themselves.
@EdwardPack1988 Simple...White girls tanning will always b white no matter what they just are looking for a shade becasue simply a tanner look looks alot healthier on ppl instead of cold blank white....A black women bleaching already has color. She is trying to get lighter and in race that could only happen thru genetics! i think ppl of color look upon that as if they are not happy with who they are so they are bleaching as in white ppl who do it just fgor beauty! My opinion feel free fill me in
@EdwardPack1988 You took thee words from my mouth . Smh i dont understand why us black women are accused of bein so insecure or ashamed when we want to be a shade lighter or be alittle prettier with makeup, It kills me wen people said that but its okay for white women to tan until their burned or pile makeup on them until they look like clowns ?! For people to say black women are ashamed or insecure of being dark sounds racist to me just saying i agree with your statement 100%
@EdwardPack1988 You mean he deliberately got rid of the vitiligo blotches despite the feelings of us cows???!!! We LOVED him and he betrayed us!!! .......Hey - I'm KIDDING lol RIP MJ, we miss you.
@msladilynn so was the doctors during the 2005 trails who proofed he did and the people who did the autopsy Who proofed it again that he had a skin disorder. If he wanted to be white, he wouldve said he was white.
@EdwardPack1988 This doesnt make sense. Its not the same idea. If you tan when youre white, so what? Youre still white you just dont want to look pasty. White people dont have a history of "oh, youre way too light, youre ugly," like blacks have a history of "shes so pretty and light skinned." Its not the same thing. its not.
I wish I was your skin tone. Mine is a bit too dark. (Yes, I'm full of self hate. I'm trying to feel happier in the skin I'm in, but society is just making it hard to)
Quran 30:22 And from His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and your colors. In that are signs for the world.
I think we have this notion that light skin is more beautiful because it's not as common in the black race. Just like a black person who has blue or green eyes, it's rare, so we think it's beautiful. That's the same reason we may see light skin as beautiful, not because people think being white is superior.
it's gone on for ages... and society creates an "invisible" class system over it... in the western world ideal, lighter skinned caucasians think they need to be darker, darker Indians/asians/african americans think they need to be lighter. Saying that it's wrong isn't going to fix anything because we inherently already know it is wrong.
i like your viewpoint about beauty in all ethnicities/races/colors etc... embrace your own color and beauty.. it's YOURS, and it's unique so own it and love it
@alriguez I c u were just dyin to hop on my dick as I neva said ah thing about white features being better looking, I'm not even attracted to white girls
look, most dark women have ugly ass features str8 up, I do kno one chick dats dark af, but her features r sexy af also and she's badder (to me) then a lot of celebrities out there
@NoxDeadly All people regardless of their features are beautiful. God made dark women; if you have a problem w/them then take it up w/God. See how far that gets you. God doesn't make junk!
@lovecritters3 wrong, lol, if up pretty exist, ugly ppl do to, dark is not ugly at all, like I said i kno dark chix dat r bad af, but they r like 4 outta ah million dark chix, n dats da reason ppl tie dark wit ugly is cuz 9 outta ten dark chix r ugly af
@NoxDeadly If ugly exists, its based on attitude not features. Again take it up with God; because he never said any color was ugly. If he didn't say, it what gives you the right to judge God's work? You are an intraracist, and that's sad to the point of being pathetic.
you're stunning!!

am dark skin, i love my own colour, but society brings me down and makes it hard to feel good about yourself, the things people say to me brings me down, it got to me when some boy said to me 'am ugly and no boys will never want me, and how he can't see me because am too dark' people have been picking on me since secondary skool. i like the way i am, and the things people say do bring others down.

@markee871 I absolutely agree with you. There is no right or wrong whether anyone wants to get lighter or darker or leave themselves as they are. What matters is how they like themselves. We don't have to do what society expects of us as long as there is no law against that. After all, this is America, a free country.

So, STOP IT! ._.

2:12-2:15 That statement baffled me, no offense meant to you because you're probably right. But to me, it was baffling because if I ever describe someone as having "dark" or "deep skin" (which I wouldn't because I know they might be sensitive to it), it would be meant as a compliment. Never would I have thought that describing someone's skin tone had an automatic attractiveness label.
charlotte13victoria 11 months ago
I like your video my sister. I agree. The oversimplification of the terms and categories we use to describe one another cause problems. I especially don't like the terms white and black. These terms do not embrace the wide range of skin tones. The black and white terms serve to divide us. That's not what society needs. Society needs to come together; to work, play and live together. Divisive labels serve to divide.

What I think is interesting is how dark skinned people want to be white and whites wanna be tan ..Uhm and what I have relized is why do we call Africans black when most of their color looks more brown or dark brown ?

Skin bleaching how does one do that? With acid or something, anyway
being pale as I am having no tolerance for sunlight at all is quite

svartekaptenen 1 year ago
I'm not sure how to say this but here it goes, Why is it that if a black women lightens her skin, its is wrong and she is ashamed of her race, but its okay for a white women to get a tan to be darker. Just think about that. That came from Michael Jackson who had a skin disorder and bleach part of his skin so he wouldn't look like a cow. Can you really blame him.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago 64
@EdwardPack1988 michael jackson was a different case, anyone who made fun of him for having this disorder is just an ass....an no offense, but michaels, irrelevant to the topic. white women tanning and black women bleaching are not comparable (being that white women are naturally pale and african americans along with many other ethnicities have been forced to adhere to eurocentric beauty standards. white's have never "had" to be any shade in order to be "beautiful" or accepted)
amastara 1 year ago
@amastara Why could this topic not apply to Michael Jackson. I was just expression Michael Jackson thoughts on the topic and he had a good point. I'm sure there are many Black males and white males who want to look darker or lighter.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 bc michael jackson doesnt count. he has a skin condition...and youve missed the entire point as to what i was saying
amastara 1 year ago
@amastara He counts because he made a good argument on the topic. Everyone says its wrong if a black lady whitens her skin, but if a white women gets a tan to look darker, then its OK. I obviously know he had a skin disorder. But instead of completely covering his body with black make up which most people with vitiligo Do, he went white. Lots of people said he was trying to be white. That he doesn't want to be black. So yes he does fit in this discussion.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 if youve ever listened to michael's crew talk about his disorder, they clearly state that he had in fact covered it with makeup for a while until it began to get worse and just became an extra chore added to an already hectic schedule. and again he had a Medical condition that he wanted to correct so that he didnt have spots, stupid black people who just want to look like one of mas'a's kids, do not. so his case makes sense. we dont know him so its not like--you know?
amastara 1 year ago
@amastara Trust me I know a lot about MJ. Unfortunately Never mean him, never will. Like I said before I was stating what he said about skin bleaching and skin darkening that's all. I know about his disorder and him trying years to cover it up. Trust me I know.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 ..welll in that case...i get u
amastara 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 the answer is simple: THE REASONS why white women want to get darker and black women want to get lighter. When European women are tanning their just making a purely aestical and fashionable choice, they may feel more attractive with a tan , but they will not feel ugly or made to feel ugly because of their skin tone. For black women it goes deeper as their whole sense of self and the value that they put on themselves(and that mainstream society put on them)....
naobe5 1 year ago
@naobe5 I get what you mean.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@naobe5 You are exactly right. Also, people fail to point out that tans are 100% natural. black people can tan as well! Stand out in the sun and you WILL get darker! Bleaching, the breaking down of and inhibiting of your natural melanin through chemicals is not comparable to tanning and is far more dangerous.
aurianaserena 1 year ago
@aurianaserena Exactly! Well said!
naobe5 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 ....can be based on the shade of their skin!
naobe5 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 Because white women can get tan naturally....theyre not trying to do something that they cant get eventually if they stay out in the sun long enough over the course of a few months. Theyre not trying to be black, theyre just getting a tan. Black skin on the other hand does not ever turn white....
redsmooch989 1 year ago
@redsmooch989 There still trying to get darker. It seems like some black people want to be a little whiter why some white people want to be darker. Everyone seems to want to be in the middle.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 Yea, I used to ask myself the same question. But the answer
is history. Black people were enslaved. Ya digg? Our inferiority was justified religiously(Curse of Ham). This belief was encouraged to solidify as slavery presented huge politcal and economical benefits. Therefore even though slavery was abolished in 1865,they were still struggling in the 1950's to be intergrated.
So basically, the point is that the wound hasn't completley healed and
in my opinion, will never will.
imanmani07 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 The white girl that tans and that black girl that
bleaches might both have similar esthetical reasons however they impact people differently. The black sista reinforces to some extent this racist mentality that still lingers. While our white girl can try but will fail to be credible(Did
white slaves ever exist?).
imanmani07 1 year ago
@imanmani07 Yes white people were salves. But slaves by white masters. Of course that ancient times, and dont forget the Jews who were slaved many times. First By Egyptian, then Romans, and Germany. imanmani07 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988
Because the darker one's skin is the more protection they have from the UV rays of the sun, so it only makes since that a white women would want to darken her skin. Also I think white women are of the perception that a tan looks better than pale.
rynex01 1 year ago
@rynex01 exactly, the perception that darker skin (tan) looks better. I have never seen anyone get a tan to prevent sunburn although it is a benefit. Usually they complain about looking pale, then go to the tanning bed.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 well actively going and sitting in the sun for hours to get a tan is bad more so for skin cancer reasons but going in the sun and tanning is a natural reaction to the world we live in.
Putting a chemical on your skin is just wierd and wrong to lighten it
wazrasta 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988
You see the difference between white women changing their skin colour and black women changing their skin colour is the origins of both traditions. In the white world having a tan was introduced or rather made popular by Coco chanel. She went on a meidterrenean cruise during winter and came back with golden skin and everybody fell for that because it said that: I have the money to spend my time outside in leisure and go to places that are sunny when it's cold where I live.
callalilly1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988
continued... When the tan became popular the western world was at the peak of mass industrialization. so poor people who worked in factories all day were pale. rich people who spent their time in the sun were tan.
During the victorian era being pale as milk was considered beautiful because it implied that you were rich enough to spend your time indoors playing piano or drawing. most of the jobs back then were outside (eg Farming) So it was considered unsightly to be browner.
callalilly1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 cntd... So the preferred colour for white women has changed through time. Whereas with black women it has always been "get as light as you can" And although it stemmed from a need to survive,"" lighter slaves lived better lives" It is now outdated. And it just as wrong as using outdated money to try and buy thing today. Being light is no longer a matter of survival. And the problem comes when people still have the idea that they can/must "use this old money".
callalilly1988 1 year ago
@callalilly1988 I think people knowdays need not to worry about skin color. There beautiful they way they are.
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988 It's not the same. Whites tan to make their pale skin glow; whereas, blacks, Asian, and Latinos bleach for a better life.

SuperBlackChic 1 year ago
@SuperBlackChic then why does the white women want to be dark
EdwardPack1988 1 year ago
@EdwardPack1988, actually, every white lady I know has no interest whatsoever in looking dark by tanning or by using any other method, but I can only speak from what I have seen.
sandinyourshoes 11 months ago
@sandinyourshoes Look around more. We have white people who go to the tanning bed who look so dark, some can pass for Hispanic. They do that cause they think that white is ugly.
EdwardPack1988 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988, oh, please! As a general rule, they do not. There are always some, of course, but that is highly pushed by the entertainment media. Look at the people who are up for Oscars: White people, of course. This includes Amy Adams, who is very beautifully white. I do not see her trying to "darken up," and I bet men of any color would find her attractive. "Pass for Hispanic?" What color is "Hispanic?" What disqualifies someone from being white or black because he speaks Spanish?
sandinyourshoes 11 months ago
@sandinyourshoes Its has nothing do with Hispanics. It had to do with white people wanted to look REALLY dark as well as white people wanting to look lighter. I never said all white people wanted to be white. What im trying to say is the some black people want to be whiter and some white people want to be blacker. They do not embrace there own natural skin color. Yes its true that if a white person stays in the sun they will get darker, but some white people have taken it to the extreme.
EdwardPack1988 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988, but you wrote "pass for Hispanic." That is not a color. It never was. Nevertheless, I agree that there are whites who take it too far. It also makes me think of blacks and other non-whites who "bleach" to look lighter. I hear so much criticism against it, but I feel that it is that person's choice to do so. Why must someone be forced to accept his color if he is not happy with it? Tyra had a guest who was black but wanted so much to be white. Nothing wrong with it to me.
sandinyourshoes 11 months ago
@sandinyourshoes when I say pass for Hispanic, I mean they can pass for someone who is Hispanic, Latin, Mexican, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese. people like that. some people are trying to look like something that there not, and when people do that, they are ashamed of themselves and need help. You should love your self, not try to fix something that's not broken.
EdwardPack1988 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988,why should anyone assume that the person who wants to bleach her skin is someone who is "ashamed" in any manner whatsoever? Why assume it is an issue of race or hating one's self? When a person decides to date someone of a different race, she may say, "It is my right." Is it not her right if she then decides to bleach her skin out of preference? Should a black child not play with a white and blonde or redhead doll? And, the nationalities you mentioned have blacks and whites.
sandinyourshoes 11 months ago
@sandinyourshoes there nothen with white kids playing with black kids, its not about hating others, it about hating ones self. If a black girl wants to be white, then there is a problem with that withen themselves.
EdwardPack1988 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988, in some cases it is about self hating. However, in other cases it is about making a choice.
sandinyourshoes 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988 whats another reason to choice to be something that your not ?
EdwardPack1988 11 months ago
@EdwardPack1988 Simple...White girls tanning will always b white no matter what they just are looking for a shade becasue simply a tanner look looks alot healthier on ppl instead of cold blank white....A black women bleaching already has color. She is trying to get lighter and in race that could only happen thru genetics! i think ppl of color look upon that as if they are not happy with who they are so they are bleaching as in white ppl who do it just fgor beauty! White people dont have a history of "oh, youre way too light, youre ugly," like blacks have a history of "shes so pretty and light skinned." Its not the same thing. its not.

@PepeLePeiu You have never seen a white girl be tanned so dark that there skin is almost black looking? How is that not the same thing?
EdwardPack1988 9 months ago
@EdwardPack1988 Ok. What are you trying to say? That shes trying to be black?
PepeLePeiu 9 months ago
@PepeLePeiu Maybe, you ever heard of White People who act like there black. I have.

I wish I was your skin tone. Mine is a bit too dark. (Yes, I'm full of self hate. I'm trying to feel happier in the skin I'm in, but society is just making it hard to)

I think we have this notion that light skin is more beautiful because it's not as common in the black race. Just like a black person who has blue or green eyes, it's rare, so we think it's beautiful. That's the same reason we may see light skin as beautiful, not because people think being white is superior.
Azula1001 1 year ago 9
it's gone on for ages... and society creates an "invisible" class system over it... in the western world ideal, lighter skinned caucasians think they need to be darker, darker Indians/asians/african americans think they need to be lighter. Saying that it's wrong isn't going to fix anything because we inherently already know it is wrong.
i like your viewpoint about beauty in all ethnicities/races/colors etc... embrace your own color and beauty.. it's YOURS, and it's unique so own it and love it

NuwaniDeNubianLadyIE 1 year ago
@NoxDeadly All people regardless of their features are beautiful. God made dark women; if you have a problem w/them then take it up w/God. See how far that gets you. God doesn't make junk!
lovecritters3 1 year ago
@lovecritters3 wrong, lol, if up pretty exist, ugly ppl do to, dark is not ugly at all, like I said i kno dark chix dat r bad af, but they r like 4 outta ah million dark chix, n dats da reason ppl tie dark wit ugly is cuz 9 outta ten dark chix r ugly af
NoxDeadly 1 year ago
@NoxDeadly If ugly exists, its based on attitude not features. Again take it up with God; because he never said any color was ugly. If he didn't say, it what gives you the right to judge God's work? You are an intraracist, and that's sad to the point of being pathetic.
