Betsy Palmer also did another movie for Paramount in 1957 called The Tin Star. It is on DVD as we speak and I have it in my DVD library. She played a lady named Nona Mayfield in that film. It is a pretty good film and it is well worth a look to see a pre Friday The 13th Betsy Palmer, though it is in black and white.
The camp counsellors weren't paying attention, THEY were doing dishes with Lux while that young boy drowned - in non-Lux treated water!! Look what you did to him..look what you did to those DISH-PAN HANDS!! AAAAHHHHH!!
Oh my God. I haven't seen this since almost infinity ago. I had to be about 3-4. And I remember the house we lived in before April 1973, and I remember seeing a bottle of Lux in front of the shiny copperish tile. "Lux" had to be one of my very first words I read out loud. Also "Lilt". My Grandma used to buy "Lilt" and have a lady come over and do a permanent on her hair. And I remember it just smelled! Thanx for this extreme blast from the past.
Actually, Betsy Palmer had quite a career as a game show panelist ("I've Got a Secret," "To Tell the Truth," "What's My Line?") before she did this Lux commercial. Could it be that liberating dishwashing liquid from the kitchen was what turned Betsy Palmer into Pamela Voorhees???
As 'Wookie' noted, Unilever {formerly Lever Brothers} still markets Lux Liquid and Lux Soap in foreign countries, including Asia and India. In the U.S., though, Lux is no longer available (there used to be Lux Flakes, for laundry purposes, but that was discontinued by the '70s).
I've had the good fortune to meet Betsy Palmer in person, and she's a VERY nice and friendly woman. She was primarily known for being a regular panelist on "I'VE GOT A SECRET" from 1958 through '67, in addition to her acting and commercial endorsements over the years. She also appeared in the short-lived "NUMBER 96" on NBC (1980-'81), after "Friday the 13th" was given wide release, and she's still amazed that more people know her as "Mrs. Voorhees" than anything she did before that...

I think Jason was given Lux in his drink as a child, hence the killings into adulthood.
