Great movie! I can certainly feel the miyazaki influence here.

Apart from the art and themes, the story-telling and journey certainly felt like a Miyazaki one.

That's not a bad thing...but of course Makoto Shinkai's style from The Promised Place in Our Early Days and 5 Centimeters per Second is much adored and appreciated.

Can't wait for his next film. Oh wait...oh dear...I wonder how long that's gonna take hahaha. Well I'll be waiting either way.

@shadowpal2 i would beg to differ although i can see a miyazaki influence in this film but for me the journey was not like a miyazaki one due to the fact i feel all miyazaki films end on a good note where as i felt this film like his others ended on a sour note she traveld all that way just to say goodbye

I think it's refreshing that Shinkai decided to do an adventure movie this time. It's different, but different can be good and this was was really good. I know we all love Shinkai's movies centering love and distance and whatnot, but I like that he decided to do a movie giving his audience a different message that doesn't center around love but more on dealing with the grief of a lost love one and moving on in life. We must all find happiness while we are still living.

This is a lovely movie- sad, heart-wrenching, touching, hopeful. Yes, it has the whole Miazaki feel to it, but I that's is one of the reasons I liked it so much. I love his movies, so seeing one made in a similar fashion works for me :) The animation is absolutely amazing also- beat that Disney! XD

I have to see this in theaters when it comes out. My goodness...I just loved 5cms per Second. It was of course a truly heartbreaking film...but also just plain beautiful. I learned so much from that film...and I hope what I've learned can help me keep my relationships strong.

That film did not just apply to girlfriends/boyfriends...it was about relationships in general in my opinion.

Anyway, I can't wait to watch this film! I hear it's more cheerful!...either way I know it will rock.

@CrescentIvyMoon i don think he do the finalised character designs.. like his previous 2 films Shinkai provides the concepts and everything, but the production is also dependent on others not just himself..

It's different because we have new graphical technologies now, compared to his other works back in 2004 and earlier. Though to be honest, I kind of hoped he'd keep animating like he did with Hoshi no Koe ~ Voices of a Distant Star. I loved that so much, it can't be put into words. But I also heard that he's getting some help now, so that could change the art a little, maybe.
