@Baphomet600 its not a movie, its a 2 parts mini series
Something else i can recommend is Sharpe or Hornblower, not french focused but same era. The movies: pact of the wolves, last of the mohicans, amazing grace
@Baphomet600 The one made in 1998 is only 1.30 hours long and is American when the one I'm talking about is a mini-series of 4 parts of 1.20 each and is French. I personally prefer the French version as is it much more detailed and closer to the book, but I am sure you can enjoy both!
Oh, i know this story after all. It's from Victor Hugo, right? I just didn't know the original title. In our country it's called Bedári. But i didn't see the movie, so thanks.

Agreed. An excellent version. Unlike the 2002 Hollywood version which changed MAJOR PLOT POINTS and tied everything up ion a nice sweet happy ending. In the book there is a slightly hopeful ending, not the obnoxiously tidy one in the 2002 version. I loved the look of that version but the changes made in it just ruined the point of the entire story.
The hollywood version raped my eyes and befowled my ears. It brutally slaughtered the story the Alexandre Dumas breathed to life. This, although nothing compared to the actual book, i would have to agree, is the best film representation of that literary masterpiece. Definetley one of the best books ever written.
I agree that this version is the best thus far. However, I am disappointed in the script writers who removed Haidee and replaced her with camille ( an inferior character without any meaning). The ending as well was contrived and deviated from the book as well. Why did they do it?
@edofiron they deviated from the book cos they can't see a good story even if it hits them in the face. i told the story from the book to my 6 year old nephew as his bed time read and he loved it.
@BoyArmor MICHAEL TSARION IS THE WORLDS PREMIER CONSPIRACY RESEARCHER/LECTURER/AUTHOR. DR. BILL DEAGLE, LEO ZAGAMI, JORDAN MAXWELL, JORDAN MAXWELL AND ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE ARE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AS WELL.
@navh07 THE SOCIETY OF JESUS(JESUITS) HAVE BEEN EXPELLED FROM 83 COUNTRIES AND THEIR POPE IS ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
What the fuck, this version starts from the middle of the real story, you dont even get to know who Abbe Faria is etc. within first 45 mins he already escaped and is known as Count of Monte Cristo ??? What the fuck, this aint no good adaptation ??!! the movie starts with him being already in jail
You're missing the subtlety of the ending. In the book, Dantès enacts a terrible vengeance and he is appalled with himself. Revenge has brought him nothing. He is still broken. He feels guilty about having feelings for Hydee, whom he recognizes as much younger than he and a victim whose judgment may have gone awry, and he only grudgingly accepts her love. Nostalgia still plagues him; he must wait till god chooses to show him mercy—if ever.
I dont think so...Dantes badly needed to be loved, you can see in the last chapter, in order to alleviate the guilt of his vengeance. He GALDLY accepts the love of Haydee as a matter of fact
no, he was falling for Haydee long before, but is at the very end, when he seems to figured out that there will be life after his vengeance... but it's true he needed to be loved...
Well, until I have seen the 1979 version with Jacques Weber I thought this version was pretty good(and I still like it). Those of you who like me love the book and want to see the best adaption on the screen, seek the 1979 French TV series. It is much more true to the book without any simplification for today's mass audience, with more suitable actor as the count and of course without the ridiculous happy end.
this was the best book I ever read and so far have been disappointed with movie reproductions and aspire to make it RIGHT on day when I become a director but I actually like this one. Maybe the french are the only ones that can do it right.
English version is awful catastrophic, watch the French one, it's amazing, it's 6 hours 40 minutes long, and if u don't know French we'll, if i didn't i would learn it just to watch the movie... The best of best
