The answer to the question is that learning to read is far more important than to learn how to handwrite. After all we use computer entry now. However learning to write Chinese is a sign of proficiency in the language and will come almost automatically if you gain a command of your reading.
learning how to handwrite reinforces your reading, and vice versa. there is no substitute for reading, likewise there is no substitute for writing.
in the end it all comes down to the power of threes, the triforce!!!
